MalFunkShun

aviator by aviatorOG 2004 · May 29, 2004 · 141 views

For all of you who know that they are making a movie about Andrew Wood the former singer of Mother Love Bone and MalFunkShun this is where you can talk about it. I already heard that Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard from Pearl Jam will also be in the movie and were his former band mates in Mother Love Bone. When he died, His roomy Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave) came together with Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard, along with his Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron and another singer Eddie Vedder who Jeff and Stone had been jamming with to make the famous Temple of the Dog album with another guitarist Mike McCready. Jeff, Stone, Eddie and Mike all went on to form Pearl Jam which would be joined by drummer Matt Cameron in 1998. And so this was like the beginning of grunge. But Andrew Wood was the real deal being MalFunkShun was one of the 6 original bands on the famous SubPop record Deep Six which included other bands like Green River, The Melvins, and Soundgarden.

LOL. I dont know what this "piano" has do with it but when the band is wearing makeup and zebra striped bandanas they are more related to Poision than any grunge band.

I do think neil young was the godfather of grunge. The name "grunge " was a just a new label to music thats always been around which is just plain ole' rock with out the current trendiness. At that time the nirvanas and the soundgardens were just rock bands in it to play thier songs. Unlike the bands that wore makeup and animal spandex pants. I could see the girls getting away with wearing them but did those guys really think that was cool ?

now give it true that MLB was a band with a front singer who had that self infatuation 80's thing going for him. However if you do listen to the album to songs like Crown of thorns, Man of golden words, Gentle groove and a couple of others you can probably hear the grunge roots in them. But I mean I guess you can't contest when it comes to songs like This is Shangrila. However I really can't say any of their stuff sounds like arena rock of the 80's. More like the Led Zepellins and Aerosmiths and perhaps even Lynard Skynard and Jimi Hendrix roots. But I can't see them in the same picture with Poison or Warrant being they weren't a hair band and I don't find the music to be similar at all.

Grunge began way before that aviator.

LOL grunge began around 1980 with Mr Epp we all know. Its pioneers were in the bands like the Melvins and Mudhoney. But for namesake Mother Love Bone was the first one to ink the deal and had a tragic loss

One of the 1st shows i ever went to was to see Neil Young. He had soundgarden and blind melon open up for him. Too bad Shannon Hoon who was blind melons singer died because they were really good live. Neil was doing mostly acoustic stuff at the time but I prefer his heavy, grungy, more fuzzed out sounds he made with Crazy Horse in the 70s.
Mother Love Bone had that warrant/posion type sound to them. I guess thats cool if thats what your into .

Warrant or Poison??? haha whoa now thats totally untrue. If you listen they had the piano they were more like an Aerosmith Led Zepellin type if you think about it. But Warrant or Poison is totally out of the question

Only Grunge came to be before SubPop became the household name that it is. Everyone knows.. Neil Young is the Godfather of Grunge. "..Keeeeep ooonnn rrockkkinnggg innn a ffrreee Wwworrrllllddd.."

the only reason u might think Neil is grunge is b/c HE LOOKS the part. hes an ex hippie/junkie that never washes and doesn't want to grow up. ever hear his early stuff? i mean early 70s. it was pretty pop-ish.oh what a crush i had on him!! specially when he was in Crosby Stills Nash and Young...

theremin #1.1.1.1 thereminOG 2002

I'm talking about strictly his music actually. He could be dressed up in a tuxedo, with a Cary Grant haircut, and he'd still be the innovator of Grunge. Looks mean nothing.
