Fall Into the GAP...

ophelia by opheliaOG 2003 · Jun 17, 2004 · 224 views · ·

Yo why do they call it The Gap anyway?..Like..That word has nothing to do w/clothing...

whatever

This thread has nothing to do w/cotton turtle necks or over priced jeans...What I'm talkin about is the generation gap - and, more specifically, the musical chasm between the generations..So weird to think that, one day we're gona have kids, and, they're going to consider our music corney - and we're going to think of their music as delinquent. All music does really is just intensify w/each new generation - like on every level. I've thought to myself before "how on EARTH could music of the future get any crazier than it is now??"..but...In 1974...In some little town...There was some kid..Driving in some pick up truck..Blasting some Black Sabbath album...Thinking the same thing to himself...Haha..I'm hope I end up being like, a cool old guy, and not that cranky old hag sitting on his porch, waving his cane, yelling "no good rebel punks!" at teenagers as they pass by blasting their music..

As of right now, I don't deal with the problem of my kid thinking my music is corny. I'm still "hip" in his eyes....sorta....and Tyler actually likes a lot of the same music my husband and I do. I have found myself, (and probably due to the fact that I'm a parent now) listening to more "easy listening" music than I did 10, even 5 years ago. I don't know why.
Tyler listens to everything. He likes Bon Jovi, Beyonce, Josh Groban, Peacemakers, Hoobastank, Outkast, Phil Collins.....and the list just goes on. He just likes such a wide variety of music. He's very well-rounded for 4 years old. And he's got a great ear for music, too. I plan on continuing to teach him all about music as he gets older, and that way he can have a really good appreciation for what he hears.

And yes, I consider myself a very cool mom. We're buds. It's really fun when we're riding along in the car, singing the same song, and it's not some silly kiddie song. Good times. :)

Hahahah.....everyone loves his name. He's very musically inclined, and my husband and I were just talking the other day, about getting him started on an instrument when he's a little older. The guitar was our first choice. Especially after we watched "School of Rock." :)

i'm def. going to be a cool parent! I'll be that parent taking their kids to cool shows (as i have observed some)

I want my kids to be well rounded in music. I was brought up on all genre's of music and i want to hand that down to my kids; to be very open minded

well its kind of hard to imagine. I mean we have all this 80's death metal guitar solo stuff and now there is stuff like Mushroomhead. I mean rap music went from gangsta to super gangsta from the time split between Public Enemy and now folks like Eminem and 50. Who knows whats next? I mean I listen to all this new emo punk junk that just sounds like some nasal singer and a band that plays a bunch of crappy melodic stuff and it seems corny to me. I miss bands like Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden and all that other super rock junk. Not this new bang on tin can three chord nasal crap

I'm going to continue to go to shows even when I have kids.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

me too. my kids first concert will be an important event. s'got to be perfect. my kid will have impeccable taste in music.

ophelia opheliaOG 2003 ·

haha..yeah that's cool when parents and children get along musically...my parents have NO bearing on any of my musical taste or interests...like..my dad likes jazz..and..so do i..but..i seriously think that's just coincidence...cause that's all he likes and he thinks all other music is for neanderthalls
