The Future Is NOW..or, is it??

ophelia by opheliaOG 2003 · Sep 15, 2003 · 172 views

One thing that I've always found interesting is how hyperbolic & optomistic peoples' thoughts are regarding technology's progression, & where we'll be at a certain, future time. Granted, society's pretty advanced nowadays, and there's a lot of things we have now that futurists of the 40's would of never predicted. But, I ask you, where the heck are the flying cars?!?!..WHERE ARE THE SERVENT ROBOTS, PROGRAMED TO SATISFY MY EVERY WHIM!?!?!....WHERE are the 3D-holographic video games??..Quite frankly, I'm dissapointed...I mean, remember when "The Year 2000" sounded sooo futuristic and mystical?...Well, It's 2003 for goodness sake, and if I don't see a floating skateboard or something soon, I'm giving up on society..lol

I think we need bio-chemical enhancers that will let us have wings. That'd be soo cool. Like, I'm sure flying could get tiring, just like running, but we'd look hott.

ophelia #5.1 opheliaOG 2003

hmm...ever read the story of ICARUS?!?!?

thatdarngirl #5.1.1 thatdarngirlOG 2002

Who said we would have wings made out of wax, that's just dumb. They'd be gossamer..boys would look so pretty.

ophelia #5.1.1.1 opheliaOG 2003

huh? wax?..what're you talking about, where I come from, the story of Icarus goes like this. Icarus, was this homeless bum that lived on Main St. in Hackensack. Some bio-chemists got a hold of him, and decided he was expendible enough to do genetic research on. They injected some sparrow DNA into his chromosomes, & the dude grew wings, only to escape from the labratory, flying outa the window. Drunk, as bums always are, he flew zigzagedly, higher, & higher, and spotted a flock of birds in V formation..Feeling these are the only beings that would accept him in his current form, he tried to join them, only to be pecked to death by racists geese. This was on front page of every newspaper, surprised u didnt see it.

I'm illiterate so..I can't read. Thanks though for the story, it was informative.

Hey, anybody know where to go when you have an invention you want to present to market?..Me & a couple friends got something we think might actually go some place..I remember a while back seeing some comercial w/a 1 800 # for like people who had ideas for inventions, the way it made it look was like, you just call up, w/the idea, and they handle the rest. They probably like take 99.99% of profit too if the product is successful.

find a respectable patent attorney.

forrestina #4.2 forrestinaOG 2002

call me so i can steal it...jk there's actually someone we know who has patent(s) and he could help you out, but i'm not supposed to know he has patent(s) so if i told you who it was i'd have to kill you.

I was hoping the personal transporters would be here by now, so i didnt have to drive to school everyday

iwz #3.1 iwz

oh man, that would the best thing ever. i'd still be late to places tho.

fivezero #3.1.1 fivezeroOG 2003

i was thinking the same thing. i'd materialize ten minutes late for everything anyway! but, man, there are so many things that could go wrong...if it ever come about--it will be many many many years before permanant and arbitrary human displacement could be done away with.

Elder: where's Brian. i didn't see him at the meeting.

Wife: the...the...transporter ate him.

Elder: dang. i was wondering why only his service bag appeared.

ophelia #3.1.1.1 opheliaOG 2003

haha, yeah, they'd have to do tests w/inanimate objects, & then maybe move up to monkey tests before it ever got anywhere. Otherwise, people would end up at their destinations w/their arm attatched to their forhead & whatnot...which is something I think we'd all agree to be uncool..unless you dig that sort of thing

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002

you know what...some people do. imagine if you could beam yourself to the meeting for service (so as not to be late) and managed to lose like 50 % of your big fat butt on the way? I think that's a win-win situation.

ophelia opheliaOG 2003

hahaha, yeah, in that application, some might be down.....what if you want to add 50% to your body proportions?..well, hmm, maybe not 50%, but, the point is I'M A SKINNY TWIRP!!..I wanna beef up!!..I'm always seeing these different things on the market for people who wanna loose weight, "Low Fat Yogurt".."1 Calorie 7up"...Where's the stuff for folks who wanna gain it!!..I'm talking "Extra Fat Twinkies" & the like..Yeah, that's right, it's time us skinny folks got some attention..

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002

yo i am so sick of hearing ME ME ME from you all the time! why don't you ever think of the starving kids in africa who need extra calories and have NEVER seen a twinkie! man. you better just donate your kidney now.

deanh77 #3.2 deanh77Founder

mmm. totally. think about it, every mountain could be a ski mountain, just put a box at the top. and you wouldn't even need a lodge, just put your snowboard stuff on in your living room and step throught the door onto the top of the mountain. sweet.

tinser #3.3 tinserOG 2002

thatdarngirl #2 thatdarngirlOG 2002

ophelia #2.1 opheliaOG 2003

me too!!...I mean, see, my problem is, I think the technology's there for all of this...somebody's definately holding out on us....

there was a 3d holographic game back like 8 years ago. it was kinda like golden arches or something. i dont remember anyway... it was totally 3d and holographic.. it was interesting.. but it didn't really catch on..

ophelia #1.1 opheliaOG 2003

Now that you mention it, I kinda remember that..But I think it was like limited to arcades right?..."The Man" wouldn't allow it to be sold for household use

iwz #1.2 iwz

ah yes, i remember this game
Sega's Time Traveler. (there was also like one or two other games that these same machines could play, but they were less common)
