okay can anyone explain why i can see album artwork on my itunes but it's not all showing up on my ipod??
do you have "display album art" checked in the ipod options on itunes?
yes but only some of it shows up on my ipod
makes me wonder if the file is not being added again it keeps the old file without the artwork... perhaps a fresh sync from nothing... just my 2cents (Canadian even LOL)
i did try that. no dice. i guess i should mention that i manually update.
I am guessing you've tried this...
good link. seems like the solution may be to manually resync all your songs freste
but i've been manually addings songs all along...should i switch to automatic and then go back to manual?
no, just try removing everything, and syncing so your ipod is empty.
then put it all back on.
OK, so I have an ipod question. It's time for me to format my ipod and reinstall all my music and podcasts and all the rest, cause my ipod is a mess. I'll probably also set it to automatically sync, instead of manually, like i have been doing in the past.
My question is as follows -
Since I have USB 1.0 on my laptop, and all my music is on a USB Hard drive - would it be faster to set up my USB hard drive on Lauren's computer (via her USB 2.0 ports) and then send the music over the network to my computer? (Does that even work?)
Alternatively, I suppose I could add a Windows username for myself to her computer, and then sync my ipod with her computer.
FYI - if you have USB 1.0 with your ipod - you will be amazed at the blindingly fast difference in speed.
The problem you might find is that... if you associate the ipod with another computer. It wouldn't (i believe) do an auto sync with yours after that, it would be linked to the other.
Anybody else.. go any ideas...
If it were me... in my mac-ness I would start the old one in target disk mode connect with firewire and use the computer with 2.0 to run the old system only with the faster bus. But alas I don't think you got anything like that for windows?
it depends on how much music you're talking about.
let's say you have 20 GB of music.
to sync your ipod with USB 1.1, it will take almost 4 hours at that speed (12 Mb/s)
USB 2.0 can effectively get about 320 Mb/s, so it most likely will take less than 10 minutes to transfer 20 GB. Realistically speaking, it will probably take closer to 15 minutes.
So, figure about 40 minutes overall, give or take, to use the USB 2.0 ports on your wife's PC. MUCH better.
But, monster's correct in that you may have syncing issues with using a different PC. Although I haven't tried it, I think they improved their multiple PC syncing stuff in iTunes 7, so I'd at least give it a shot.
theoretically, it SHOULD take 4 hours, but realistically, it doesn't work like that in my experience. it seems to take its sweet time doing things like "analyzing song volume" and "checking for gapless playback" and "looking for album art".
i may set it up around 7 tomorrow night, and see if everything is done by the time i go to work on wednesday
ideally, i'd add the USB HD to my wife's USB 2.0 port, set it up as a mapped drive on my PC, drag and drop the entire mapped drive onto iTunes "library" - but it would probably take like 10 hours to add it to my library, so that would kill it.
FWIW, you can't drag and drop sirectly onto your ipod from a USB drive, unless you drop it into your library first. DRM at it's finest, people.
oh, right. i was really describing how it would work if you were to just attach the hard drive to her computer and use that to sync.
syncing itunes with a removable hard drive isn't really the best way to do it, unfortunately. itunes is very fragile when it comes to tracking the physical files.
and letting itunes analyze all the songs for gapless playback and song volume is going to take FOREVER on a usb drive. that's just torture. unless you've already done it somewhere. if it's completed on your laptop, just sync it with usb 1.1 on there and let it go overnight like you said.
i'm sure you guys have seen this, but in case you haven't: http://ifrogz.com/index.php
those actually look pretty nice
i just ordered one cos my friend was mocking how loose my iPod skin was.
DON'T bring it to my house when you get it..
hehe
Get this, im getting this for my trip to hawaii. Plays mp3's and cheap just like you like it! OR get your ipod rich boy and ill enjoy its pimpness.
thats pretty hot... i wanna look like a cool kid with an ipod tho!
whatever rich boy
So with the iPod....can you download songs without having to pay for them? I only know how to use ITunes for it, but I don't feel like shelling out a buck a song if I don't have to.
you can rip your own CDs and put them onto your ipod. or you can buy them on iTunes.
or you can download songs from the internet, without paying for them, but that is of dubious legality.
on amazon... what do you guys think?

GET IT. Get some noise cancelling headphones. get the DLO Transpod Doc k for the car (est. $99). Get the iHome Docking Station (est. $99). You will love it.
See, my 40G player was $170, my FM transmitter was $20, and I bought a $3 RCA cable to hook it into my home stereo. That's why I think ipods are such a rip off.
no no you don't get it.
The DLO Transpod is no ordinary FM Transmitter. It's a dock that works in any car off the cigarette lights, it has its own built in amplifier, can work on any radio station, and can be heard almost 100 ft away from the car. Meaning that I'm my own independent radio station in traffic. Sometimes, when Lauren and I had to take 2 cars everywhere (READ: Chaperones unavailable) she'd say to me later "what were you listening to, the Beatles?" and i'd be like ... uh ... yeah
The iHome Dock is a clock radio that docks your iPod - it allows you to wake up to playlists, or the radio, or whatever you want, really. It sounds AMAZING, plus it's standalone. I can bring the party wherever I waaaaaaaant! Plus it came with a bunch of RCA cables to hook up to whatever.
Seriously,
Hmm..maybe I should get this. I find the itrip useless and was thinking of putting a tape player back in my car just so I could listen to my Ipod through it. I don't have $99.
Yeah, my FM transmitter and RCA cable do exactly the same thing. My car speakers are already really good, so a built in amp is not necessary, as are my speakers at home, where my reciever has front RCA inputs, so it's not a big deal to switch the wires.
Seriously, I think apple has taken you all for a ride.
i was researching alot about this last night di... looking at what you have and reviews... and i hate to say it but, Apple just makes a better product. Sure its expensive, but it also is designed much better. Your's can do some of the same things, but Apple makes more accessories and it is more tried and true then Creative is....
Well, it's really what you want to use it for. I won't deny that apple's product is good, but all I need is something that can play music, so for me, creative works. I'm just saying I don't like the way apple has all these proprietary accessories that they make the public think they "need". Plus, Creative has designed sound cards for computers for over 15 years, so I think they're very experienced in that capacity.
I mean, if you want to pay an extra $400 for something that's "designed better", that's your call.
lol sure... you could buy a car from Ford... OR you can have me design it for you... REAL cheap... which would you rather drive in?
What? Are you saying I should get rid of my ford and get a well-designed Saturn? You're such a maroon.
what does Saturn have to do with my illustration... how about you re-read what i said and then think about it for a few days and get back to me...
Your illustration is poor; I was mocking it. If the car you designed worked just as well and was cheaper, I'd buy it. That's what capitalism is, Stalin.
where'd you get the DLO guy?
best buy, b/c i was on a trip and desperate.
I've used my DLO in ... Chicago (went there for 2 weeks on business), from NJ to Pittsburgh and back (man that's a long ride), LA to Vegas (4 AM to 8 AM across the desert listening to Goldfinger, WOOT!), and across Puerto Rico as the sun came up! Different cars every time ..
i've just been using a casette adapter. haha some of the ghetto-ness in me will never die. it hums sometimes though. i definitely want a real deal.
the realest deal, so to speak, would be something the directly inputs into your car stereo. if you have an aftermarket face with line-in jacks, you're golden - the cable costs $5 and you're done.
if the car has a factory radio - check out - http://www.cardomain.com/item/PACAUXPOD
thanks for the tip. i'm just remembering that my friend got one of these specifically made for VW and i think it was like $60 so i might look into that also.
Whoah whoah! Run this by everyone again please, in simpler terms.
My CD player is not factory installed..I could easily get an Ipod thingy that would play it directly?
most head units have some sort of Auxiliary Input. Aiwa ones are even nicer in that they put the aux input on the front of the head unit, but most have them on the back. You can plug in a headphone wire into your iPod, and the other end into the head unit directly, or into an RCA cable converter and go from there.
depends on your head unit.
PROTIP: Head phone wires are known as "stereo mini". You can use a male to male Stereo Mini cable to do the job.
Adam just got me one last week from apple's website, and it's a refurbished mini. He got a good deal for it too. They had a variety of ipods too.....
Oh, and thank you to whoever it was that suggested I look at that site....that's where he got the idea. :)
no problem, i'm happy to have helped. What color did you get?
Hey, yeah you!!! Hahaha....thanks!!
I got the green one. They didn't have any in purple, but green was an awesome choice too. So I was equally pleased. :)
uh dude aren't you a student, or know someone who is a student? apple gives a 10% discount. also i've heard that if you put an ipod in your cart and leave it there, 3 days later you get a 10% discount. not sure if that's true or not.
barring that, amazon runs better specials than the ipod store, b/c you don't gotta pay taxes. not trying to short the govt, i'm just letting you know what's up
This is my mp3 player (40G).

Don't be like the crowd, man. Get something other than an ipod.
where's the color screen? where's the pictures, not to mention video? and WHAT accessories are specifically designed for docking with that? anything for the car?
yeah i was looking at that.... sorry di... haha
You're so lame. Fight the power, man!
I have an FM transmitter. I have color pics and video on my PDA, so my mp3 player doesn't need it.
