Windows XP/Windows 2000
do you guys think that 128 ram would be enough to run either of these types of windows? (its the minnimum needed...so is it going to make my computer really slow?)
Also, very hypothetically speaking...how much would you pay for a pyrated copy of win 2000 or win xp home....and windows xp professional?

Courtney, we just got the newer version from a guy in our hall (can't remember which version) for FREE!!! We can hook you up! :):)
I have Windows XXXP...one of the perks of being 18+...(melody, you can get this too now!)
YES!!! sounds exciting! how do i get it?
who is trying to sell you the "aarghghgh, maytee" version of windows 2000? that's so illegal. IF you're gonna go that route, download it yourself.
haha, a guy from my college bookstore told me he would...but i'm not gonna go that road anyway. I was just curious
oh...my parents just informed me that they put more ram in the computer already...so we do have 256ram afterall...now do you guys think i should upgrade my windows? and is there anywhere cheaper to buy it then the windows website? (xp is 200 bucks there! That's like a third of a computer)
That's probably enough memory, though adding another 128MB wouldn't hurt. You're in college, right? You should be able to get an academic version of XP Professional. That should be somewhat cheaper.
i went to my school bookstore and they don't sell it...gaY with a capital y
You don't have to get it from your own college bookstore. Any will do. Or you can get it from the site that Ian linked in his response.
yeah! check it out:

thanks guys!! < >
first of all, 128MBs of ram will definitely run slow with win2k or winxp. you could add in another 256MBs of ram for pretty cheap, and that would be much better.
secondly, i would pay nothing for a pirated copy of anything, mainly because it's illegal, but also because there's no point.
Why only 256MB? You can get a 512MB DIMM for $50 at Compusa right now.
yeah, but since she only has 128mb, i'm guessing it's an older PC that uses PC133 ram or so, and that's more expensive nowadays. i don't think you can use newer PC2100+ ram in older motherboards, right? ??
Hmm... You're probably right. It would help if she told us more about her machine.
ok, its 500 mghz, hp pavillion 8565c....i think its from 2000...has win 98 now, pentium III...umm, is that good? What other info do you need? i'm not sure what kind of ram it uses...
Let's see... According to the hp website, as far as memory goes, you can add another 256MB by adding two more 128MB DIMMs, and that would max out the memory. That would run you about $100 at compusa. (This is assuming the current 128MB you have is on a single DIMM.) You might be able to get it cheaper somewhere else, though.
Honestly, though, if I were in your position and could afford it, I'd just get a new computer.
yeah, that's what i'm thinking...we'll probably keep this computer until the end of the year...i'll just reformat it for now and hold out...then i'll have windows xp with the new anyway
(this is my parents computer anyway...so i'm not gonna spend a whole lot of money on it, when i can put it towards my own laptop)
