so this is an old forum. but we just rented it last night. the first time i saw it, i really didnt like it. but austin thought it was hilarious so i decided to sit through it again. yea, this time, it was SO funny. i think it's the fact that this time i wasnt "expecting" anything and i could laugh at it. oh man, so funny. "you're just jealous cuz i've been chattin with hot babes all day". hahah
oh, and napolean just won an MTV movie award. best male breakthrough performance.
Ok, so my husband and I finally saw the movie this weekend. After everyone saying it was so great, we expected to laugh more than 5 times. But we only laughed 5 times. There were a few funny parts, but there was no significant plot lines and the characters were boring and uninteresting. I can't think of any lines that were funny enough to quote, like everyone else does. It was basically a day in the life of an idiot -- like "Dumb and Dumber", but not funny. We asked ourselves if it was us; if we just weren't in a laughing mood or something. But we found ourselves checking the elapsed time on our DVD player so we knew how much longer we had to suffer through it. At about 40 minutes in, we agreed that there was no significant plot, and we'd be really pissed if we'd paid to see it in a theater.
I think you figured out the key to why so many people love it. There's no real point. It goes nowhere. I remember thinking that the first time..."when's this gonna end?" But some things were so...unique about it. When I saw it again, I liked it a bit better. Each viewing has made it easier to swallow.
*I am currently sick of it, but I do not hate it.
well, there is the whole coming-of-age plot...
Ehhh, I still think it was bad. Donovan has some anger about it and he said he'd log on to voice it. I can't wait to hear what he has to say.

Maybe we just couldn't relate. I don't know. I don't understand why everyone thinks it's so great. It seemed like a waste of an hour and a half to me.
the whole thing is yuo have to have that cheesy sense of humor to get it. not all like it but a lot of peeps went in with HUGE expectations.....and when i suggest that ones will like it i jsut tell them to not expect anything but lameness but thats what makes it.

it wasn't supposed to be funny at all, that's not its purpose. the purpose of this movie was so we could understand how wierd people live, and not be so racist against them. invite them to your home, play with them, tickle them, swallow them. they have hearts too, don't shoot their cow for your hamburger, let them shoot it first

Hmm I laughed from the moment I saw Napoleon in THAT OUTFIT and those boots standing outside his house. Laughed really loud. And laughed until the very last moment, pretty much nonstop. Laughed at every grunt, at every "YES!" and oh man laughed at the length of the phone cord.

This is one of those movies you either love or hate. I think what makes me think it's so funny is that the characters remind me so much of people I actually know.
I've seen it 5 times so far and laughed hysterically each time. I love the part where he nails him in the head with the steak.

In the extra feature there is a part where Napoleon is fishing. He reels in a small fish, and then drop kicks it back into the pond. I was watching this with an elder and his wife from my hall and we were dying. (That and the part where he throws Summers class president button and runs away totally kill me.)

I loved it. You learn that Pedro is actually a combo of two characters and Napoleon's name is Seth. Very cool short movie. Watch it if you can.

This movie was so funny and had tons of repeatable lines that cracked me up. When I go see it again, I will probably repeat more lines from Napoleon than I do Tommy boy in day-to-day conversation.
