Donovan and I recently rented this movie. I really enjoyed it! It was by the same directing team that did the remake of The Count of Monte Cristo a few years ago, and although that movie was grossly unlike the book, the direction and artistic cinematography were, in my opinion, fantastic.
They advertised Tristan & Isolde as a Romeo & Juliet type saga, but in my opinion, it's better than that. It's much more intricate and much more involved. Of course, at the core, it's the tale of two lovers who can never be together, but unlike Romeo & Juliet, who were only overcoming family names, Tristan & Isolde have much more to evade.
The story is gut-wrenching - there's more of a love triangle that the characters are involved in, but unlike other stories, you don't feel that one character is the villian, you empathize with all of them, which makes the story more realistic. Finally, the art direction is amazing. There are only a few movies made a year, I think, that are truly beautiful to watch, and this was one of them.
In addition to all the love, there's a few battle scenes (not gory) that will keep the less romantic boys interested.
I recommend it.

I just saw the movie last night and have to agree that it was a good movie.
It had a bit of Romeo & Juliet but also King Arthur & Lancelot at the same time.
What King Mark did at the end of the movie was a nice twist...
I saw this movie preview in theaters back in December and it sparked my interest but than I went away in January and by the time I got back, it was out of theaters. Thank goodness for Cablevision - On Demand...
As a big movie critic I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars ****
this movie looks really dumb.
What do you know about movies? Have you seen it?
this movie looks dumb.
I loved the film. It made me wanna read more into the story. I don't think it gets the credit it deserves. It's a really interesting historical story (that happens to be about lovers), and without being a "film for girls."
I enjoyed it, I got it from Netflix last week and watched it twice. It was a beautiful film from a cinematic view. Acting was done well, good casting. I really enjoyed the story.
I totatlly agree with you. Everything about this movie was awesome. The story, the battles, the characters... And you're right you could easily empathise with any of the characters which made the whole thing even more tragic.
Mikayla watched this last week and HATED IT.
I was busy with eZabel so I didn't watch it with her. But she barely made it through the movie, she kept complaining so much. haha
i wonder if i would have liked it
lol, mikayla just saw this review, and went off. here are some choice quotes:
"i'd rather shoot myself"
"worst movie ever made"
"that movie sucked"
"i hated it soo much and would challenge anyone who thinks otherwise"
HAHAHAHAHAH
I don't know, man, I think Mikayla might be the only one that thinks that.
haha i know, she totally is.
i just think it's hilarious how she hates it so much.
Give it a chance. It's a favourite of mine now.
I really enjoyed it also although I thought they moved a little too fast.
You recommend it, what did donovan think?
He really liked it too. The story was interesting, not just sappy. It was very epic.
