Nintendo Revolution (Wii) News!
OH YES! Read this:
"No one else can match the environment we're creating for expanding the game
experience to everyone. Our path is not linear, but dynamic."
Iwata also announced partnerships with Sega and Hudson to offer
downloadable access to their classic games via Revolution's Virtual Console.
Revolution owners will be able to relive their past gaming glories from the
Sega Genesis console by playing a "best of" selection from more than 1,000
Genesis titles, as well as games sold for the TurboGrafx console (a system
jointly developed by NEC and Hudson). These games join Revolution's access to
20 years of fan-favorite Nintendo games from the NES(R), Super NES(R) and
Nintendo(R) 64 eras.
Iwata also revealed for the first time that a new game called The Legend
of Zelda(R): Phantom Hourglass would be released for Nintendo DS later this
year."

Wii Rumors from Shacknews http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/43267
Wii Date and Price Rumored, Portable GameCube Revealed?
IGN Wii posted a number of Nintendo-related rumors today, apparently obtained directly from reliable sources in publishing and development. Soon after the news post went up, it was taken down and replaced by a statement indicating that IGN's sources do not wish to go to jail. A potential interpretation of this language is that the reported information fell under the domain of non-disclosure agreements and therefore holds some weight. Later, the post was replaced, with a few changes.
First up is the issue of the release date for the upcoming Wii. Apparently, Nintendo is telling launch title developers to have their games ready by mid-October or so for a launch on November 2; others believe the date may be November 12. Sources indicate that the machine will retail for $229 in the United States, though the contents of the package were not disclosed. It will be available in black and white, according to these sources.
In Nintendo's latest financial reports, the company stated that it plans to sell 6 million units of the console within the fiscal year ending March 31, 2007. Now, IGN's sources claim that the company has ramped up its expectations. The original IGN story claimed that the new figure is 5.5 million units by the end of the calendar year; the revised post replaces the quantity with "more than five million units."
Apparently, the console's region encoding will come via firmware rather than hardware; IGN speculates that this would result in an easier modification for gamers looking to play imported games.
One rumor, which IGN removed entirely for the reposted story, stated IBM may be working on a smaller version of the Wii's Broadway CPU for use in a portable console which would play GameCube discs. This has been rumored to be the approach taken with Nintendo's next Game Boy console, though past instances of this rumor did not come by way of apparently credible sources.
still can't wait. nintendo has played their cards right.

(pronounced "weenies")
I want to be a Wii-Ni
gay. i'll be a wii bull
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
chris better win this one too
When is this supposed to be released in the US?
Around Thanksgiving.
I heard the price was confirmed to be around $200. Any word on release games?
Price still hasn't been confirmed, but Nintendo has said it will be less than $250 in the US, or 25,000 yen in Japan (which is US$223). So a $200 price is verrrrry likely, but not confirmed. Price will be confirmed by September.
Nintendo has stated that games will be in the normal $50 range, not the extra expensive $60 range like xbox 360 and ps3 games.
And games on the Virtual Console (download games onto the Wii over the net) which includes NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, and TurboGrafx 16 games, as well as newly developed games, will be around 500 yen ($4.44) to 1000 yen ($8.88), putting games in essentially the same price range as Xbox Live Arcade titles for Xbox 360, which generally go for $5-$12.50.
As far as launch titles, there will be some GOOOOD stuff.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/709/709258p1.html
New Zelda, Metroid Prime, Wii Sports, Tony Hawk, Madden, Trauma Center, Elebits, Rayman, X-Men, SpongeBob, and lots of others.I expect 16-20 games available on launch. I mean, they showed 27 playable games at E3 in May. 7 months before launch!!
Hmm. Donovan wants to get a Wii; I'm trying to come up with reasons for him not to. Like, he could spend $200 on jewelry for me, or something.
um, he should get it because you both can play it. Wii Tennis looks like it'll be awesome with 2-4 players
That's what he said! I'm not prepared for anything other than Morrowind and Burnout, so we'll see.
why you gotta be so negative about it? The Wii looks SO fun! I really think if you gave it a chance, you'd LOVE it. But, then again, who am I to say. It just seems silly to be so close-minded about it.
haha. You're so silly di!
I am silly, aren't I? I just think it's fun to bust Donovan when he gets all excited about video games. I totally got into Morrowind, didn't I? I'm not trying to sound all negative.
The news keeps getting better and better:
Donovan's been saying all week how he wants this when it comes out.
Awesome video of a boss battle in the Super Mario Galaxy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-Qw1ClCVN8&search=super%20mario%20galaxy
looks good, but . . . kiddish. i'll still get it and beat it.
I actually prefer the kiddish, cartoonish games. More nostalgic, I guess.
Like Viewtiful Joe, or are we talking old school games like Mario?
I haven't played Viewtiful Joe, but it looks like the kind of game I mean. I've always like the Mario games. I was one of those people that loved what they did with Zelda: Wind Waker. I dunno, the super-realistic games just aren't that interesting to me. It has always seemed like they put way too much thought into how those games looked and not enough into the gameplay.
Some of those I'll agree with. But some of the very realistic looking games are a blast to play. I was easily hooked on some of the FPS games that were out there.
I liked the new Zelda game, I thought it was really cool what they did.
I mean the kiddish style and design is great, I wouldn't have it any other way. I kinda mean the tone. I just wonder if the story will be gripping or cheesy. If there will be a feeling of tension or of "Ok, lets save Peach again." Rinse, repeat. I was kind of hoping for a darker more tense Mario game. Like Mario with the BFG from Doom!!! jk
I also think Mario's facial hair should be customizable. He really, really, needs a fu manchu.
Super Smash Brothers Brawl for Wii. Samus with no armor! Kid Icarus! SOLID SNAKE! *faints*

Video mockup of how some people think some games might play on the Revolution
Interview with Nintendo President
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qz_3oIjzK7U
"This video interview with Iwata during GDC is really quite entertaining. Iwata reiterates some of his key points about what the company's goals are with the Revolution and the expansion of ideas, creating fresh, new content for their systems and even goes on to point out his major regret with the GameCube is the lack of momentum."

i can't wait to paint happy little trees with the motion sensitive controller
eeyen, i'm serious. we need to make a club. this system is getting bought. even tho i have to buy the harddrive seperately or whatever they plan on doing.
a) I LOVE Bob Ross!
b) where do you pre-order these things?
i don't think you can pre-pay just yet. i could be wrong. i want one though.

dude i loved the turbo grafx 16. Really it was one of the most important consoles at the time. Even though no one played it the games were light years ahead of the other systems....
new MP mario looks sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet
I'll stick with my SNES.
SOLD!
wow....me, too, I think.
Just when I thought Nintendo was dead.
after gamecube i thought nintendo was dead. i really did. guess what? i will be buying a revolution.
gamecube is awesome. so many great games. they just lost a lot of the 3rd party support..
Take a look the DS, and all the crazy inventive games that are coming out for it because of the unique controls it allows with the touch screen.
LOTS of developers are excited about the revolution, because of the new controller. There's been some really cool ideas floating around about what can be done with it.
Nintendo president said last week in an interview that their system is about fun games, and having fun. This direction is CLEAR on the DS, which is just crazy fun. Can't wait to see what they come up with for the revolution.
Oh, and the Revolution will also cost less than $300. Rumors are that it will cost $199.... we'll see!
You're going to see a pretty clear difference between the 360 & PS3 and the Revolution. Nintendo is focusing purely on games; the system won't even have HD support. They say the graphics are good enough on a standard def TV, which most people have anyway. The 360 & PS3 are all about centralizing media and entertainment all into one box in the living room, like a hub. They're very all encompassing, which is a big contrast to Nintendo's ideas.
Will be interesting to see how it pans out.
once more. sold.
what made you think nintendo was dead?
cause it sucks. And so does it's games.
Except for Zelda. And Metroid. But I never liked the controls of Metroid Prime.
what! the gamecube is awesome.
it sold 20 million consoles (very close to the xbox), and has plenty of awesome games. nintendo is very good at making a profit, and they've done so with the gamecube, gameboy, and ds. on the other hand, microsoft still hasn't made a profit on the xbox...
I didn't get to play many of Nintendo's most recent games, but they seem so gay. I think they've been running on Brand-name Hype for years.
I never understood why anyone bought one--except possibly to play Zelda or Metroid. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance to experience quality titles. *shrug*. oh, and Mario is dead to me.
But THIS, this looks like it has potential!
Interesting..

zelda DS video!! http://www.britishgaming.co.uk/?p=654
If they added the Dreamcast to that list I think I'd have a heart attack. I can't wait...
i agree with this. dreamcast had some awesome games. still, the only game i can't get ahold of is BONK for turbografix. i wanna play that again.
I think...I might....still have it...
get the heck out of here
at my parents house...I might have bonk 1, 2, and 3.... if they still have my turbo duo..
You had a turbo duo?
crazy, right? i'm gonna have to start being nice to him now.
