Nintendo Revolution (Wii) News!
OH YES! Read this:
"No one else can match the environment we're creating for expanding the game
experience to everyone. Our path is not linear, but dynamic."
Iwata also announced partnerships with Sega and Hudson to offer
downloadable access to their classic games via Revolution's Virtual Console.
Revolution owners will be able to relive their past gaming glories from the
Sega Genesis console by playing a "best of" selection from more than 1,000
Genesis titles, as well as games sold for the TurboGrafx console (a system
jointly developed by NEC and Hudson). These games join Revolution's access to
20 years of fan-favorite Nintendo games from the NES(R), Super NES(R) and
Nintendo(R) 64 eras.
Iwata also revealed for the first time that a new game called The Legend
of Zelda(R): Phantom Hourglass would be released for Nintendo DS later this
year."

Page 1 of 2I got a Wii!!!
i FINALLY got a wii! Score! I called Target this morning at 8 and they had a lot in stock, so i got there at 8:15 and ran through the whole store, it was awesome.
I wish i had my camera, i would have documented it all for you, but I accidentally left it in Lauren's purse.
I will be plugging it in tonight. I also ordered some extra controllers from Overstock, they have them for $25.00
How's the wii play game? worth it for the game + Controller?
oh yeah i also ordered tiger woods golf, because that looks like fun.
Reviews of SSX blur? The main reason I was kind of thinking about not getting a Wii is because of the lack of "Amped" games, man I love those.
Anyone get to play Tony Hawk Downhill Jam? I guess I might start renting some games. I never really did that before with my XBox.
the happy feet game was on sale at circuit city, so i was thinking about that one because Lauren loved happy feet, but i read a review and there's a reason it's on sale, apparently it sucks.
Blur is pretty fun, the controllers are a bit tricky, but after you master it, it is total fun.
I bought tiger a while ago, i've been too busy to play a lot of it. the controls are pretty responsive (just swing like a golf club) - you can get hooks and slices. to put spin on the ball after you swing, you have to shake the remote - one of my favorite parts. In this game you can really tell the difference in graphics between a 360/ps3 and the wii.
Grats!
Wii Play is worth it for the Controller + $10 premium, I think. We're gotten a LOT of play out of it. Target Practice, Laser Hockey, Tanks, and Find Mii are all pretty fun.
Haven't played SSX Blur, Tiger Woods, or Tony Hawk. I've heard SSX is fun once you get used to the controls, though. Rayman Raving Rabbids is a lot of fun, and of course Zelda and Paper Mario ROCK.
I concur; the wii play is a lot of fun.
Did anyone get paper mario yet?
I rented ssx blur it took a little bit of time and frustration to figure out the controls, now it's like second nature.
ps - new internet channel, free now, but will cost 500 wii points in june, what's up with that
Is paper mario pretty much in stock everywhere? I was thinking of getting it tonight, but I don't feel like driving all over creation for it.
driving all over creation, lol
It's very easy to find. I picked it up on Wed (thanks for the gift card, Jeff!), and it's great so far! I'm about 3 hours in.
Very wordy, but that's fine by me. The gameplay is awesome!
no problem, i'm glad you got something sweet.
yeah, I'm digging it, really good update of classic mario.
I need to make more time for wii.
We recently got the wii play games (with the remote). They're pretty cool; my faves are a shooting game (reminiscent of duck hunt) and a pool game.
yeah that target game is a lot of fun with 2 players. my favorite is the Tanks game.
I hate the tanks game! I can't get the steering down. And whenever Donovan and I play, I'm the first tank he aims for. And he doesn't miss.
lol.. do you have 2 nunchucks? it's a lot easier to steer if you have that for each player.
and it's about teamwork! tell don to stop aiming at you. you have to protect each other. crazy guy
We have 2. Do me a favor and send Don a message to stop attacking me. He's ruthless.
haha: sent!
new Super Paper Mario videos!
http://www.wiionly.nl/nieuwsitem.php?nid=1121
This game looks awesome!
I rented Sonic. I'll pass.
Has anyone playes SSX blur?
Tiger come out on Wednesday, oh yeah.
I'm officially mad at Zelda. I wanted a non-demo morrowind, and it is not that. I don't like being forced to follow one plot and do specific things. The game can't boss me!!!
We finally got a Wii! Zelda is pretty cool so far; although I hate those stupid opening quests that make you do useless stuff around towns.
Ok, I'm pretty frustrated with Zelda right now. I played for a few hours saturday night, saved a bunch of times, and didn't realize that if you're in the middle of a "quest" it doesn't save your location or save any of the enemies you've killed. That was seriously frustrating. And I hate the way they designed the A button so that it does so many things depending on where you are and what you're doing... why not just use other buttons?!
were you in one of the temples? if you get that oocooroo character, you can warp out to the main world, save, and then warp back in right where you left off.
it's just how zelda games are, they've always been like that. can be frustrating at times, but it's just a game mechanic. that said, the game is excellent, and just gets better as you go along. stick with it!
and the context sensitive A button is great! how could you not be into that.
Yes, I have the oocooroo character - I didn't think to warp out and save like that. That's a good idea. I just want my buttons to do the same thing all the time - I fear change.
Why does the cord for the classic controler come out of the bottom?
It's weird.
Is it bothersome? I haven't used one, but I hear a lot of people complaining about that... I'd guess they did it that way so you can just put the wii remote in your lap and not have the wire twisting around...
here's a 5-minute hack to move the wire to the top, if you're interested:
http://www.nintendogal.com/index.php?/archives/1353-Wire-Placement-Hack-For-Wii-Classic-Controller.html
Super Mario World is now available on the Virtual Console!
And recently added were Mario Kart 64, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario Bros., and Contra III

does anyone have an xbox that they no longer need?
i'm definitely willing to trade $$ for one - mine died a couple of weeks ago, and all this non-video-game-playing is making me a little nuts
why is this in the wii news?
I was at 7 springs snowboarding this weekend and the army was was giving away an xbox as a raffle prize. I thought this was super lame, not only was it an original xbox (not 360), but it was used.
ok so if i want a wii, where should i go? i'm not waiting in the cold for this, i just have a bunch of gift cards i could use.
Sundays are when they usually have them. But word on the street is that you'll still have to stand on line before opening. :/
You could try calling midweek to see if they got any in, though.
I got my wii yesterday. and I got the opera browser for it. I immediately thought about streaming video from my pc to the wii. I found a web server for XP that converted to .flv on the fly and had a nice interface, and you use Opera on the Wii to view the video, but the video was choppy on the wii. it's either a bandwith issue or memory issue, and anyway, the view-size of the video is limited by opera. it would be much better in a dedicated video client, I wonder if someone can port VLC to the Wii...
That's pretty sweet, didn't know there were webservers that transcode to flv that easily.
Youtube works great for me over wifi on the Wii, but their player buffers a lot and then plays.. is that how that webserver was working?
here's the webserver I tried out: http://www.weezo.net/
I'll try some youtube tonight, this web-server was playing the videos pretty immediately, not much buffering at all, which is probably the problem.
i rented elebits, it's weird, it's not really that fun, but I just keep playing it
you can already rent Wii games?? sweet!
you keep playing it because it's addictive? or what
and what other games do you have?
yeah, my blockbust has about 10-12 games that you can rent.
I own Rayman, that's it right now.
I rented red steel, hope noone's stumbled, but it had a sword and a gun, it was impossible to pass up.
I keep playing elebits, because I think that it will eventually get cool. some of the controls are pretty good, you can pick things up and then you have total control of them with the wiimote, like you turn vases upside down to shake things out.
Zelda dude... zelllllda
I know, i'm kind of holding off on buy it, because I really need to work on my talk, and i know if i buy zelda i will waste valuable time.
beat it today. I was holding off...but I went for it, haha. It's pretty tough. I actually needed help at one part of the boss fight. Couldn't figure it out.
it took me only 55 hrs. I still have lots I can do. I'm gonna work toward the 3rd armor set...
I got red steel, I really like it a lot, it's not that violent of a game compared to others. It's very long which is awesome.
If you have cursor problems, set your sensitivity to 1 or 0
Yeah, it was pretty cool, i was impressed by the length as well. I was like a 30% done when I returned it, and at that point you are still learning new sword techiniques which is cool.
I'm not much of a first person shooter, but i like the realism, you just could go in blasting, you had to hide and duck around things and surprise people. it was a very well put together game.
yeah definitely, its pretty immersive, throwing tables down for cover and all.
the acting is meh tho

Ian - Add us as a friend! We're lonely. :(
yeah, ian, add me too jerk!
I will! I just haven't had time yet. Had to write a talk last night. And, Jeff, I think I already added you, a while back. I'll check when I add doon.
Aww, you had to write a talk for tonight? The meeting will probably be canceled tonight, huh? I'm pretty sure ours will be.
welllll, i'm thinking it won't be cancelled since it's not snowing yet. it sounds like the snow is coming later tonight.
It's snowing like crazy here, but it's not sticking to the roads. A few weeks ago, we were forecasted to get about an inch, and that inch fell as we were trying to drive home from the meeting. It took 20 minutes to go 3.7 miles and we saw 2 accidents. Not that I want to miss a meeting, but I hope they cancel it only because the DOT doesn't believe in salting in this town.

why?
haha.
it hooks up to the remote so that it's wireless. that's all, really.
I got to play a Wii in gamestop tonight! Played around in the menus and some Excite Truck.
The controller feels just right. And the sensitivity and aiming is great! Excite Truck was really a lot of fun as well, even if it did take a little bit to get used to.
CAN'T WAIT

soooo awesome
i like that horse more than the horse in oblivion
I'm getting this for Donovan for our anniversary when it comes out. And since like January, I've convinced him that I didn't want him to have it. Yea for evil surprises! Muah ha ha!
Edge Magazine, on the new Zelda for Wii
"The message is clear, this time Nintendo has made a game unafraid to stand tall beside those two previous titles (OOT, LTTP) widely regarded as the greatest in a series of greats. This is no 'what if' whimsy like the WW or the minish cap. TP is Zelda by the book and there's every sign that it's the most involved, the most ambitious, the just plain biggest zelda there's ever been."
"The sheer amount of content in TP is overwhelming. It throws new skills, items and intriguing twists at you far faster than any zelda before it."
"Epona is no slender pony this time, instead a solid, gigantic, invincible animal."
During the first 6 hours you will have done more than the equivalent of 3 dungeons in on any other zelda game in terms of new items, skills etc.
The first dungeon reminiscent of the forest temple is
"though hardly hard, it's probably as involved and suprising as any other initial zelda dungeon, if not more so."
"you begin to get a sense of the sheer dizzying scope of TP, it threatens to be absolutely immense, an epic seldom rivalled in scale outside the rpg form (and never by another launch game) and loaded heavier than ever with items, details and possibilities as yet unseen in a test that made 6 hours feel like 6 minutes."
"It's almost forbidding, TP is certainly no populist rethink of zelda, in tune with the popular all cuddly all access Wii. It is instead an all guns blazing assault on the hardcore, a fanboys wet dream (if there's any worry at all it's that it might overburden itself)"
"That's reflected in the involved controls of the wii version, though not as off putting as the E3 demo, when introduced and gradually relaxed into over time, they are delicate, sometimes demanding and occasionally frustraing. Attack gestures flow beautifully, but are sticky to start and jumping to pointer aiming can be awkward and dis-orientating. However they more than make up for it with tremendous tactile excitement, the shrill thrill of the speaker effects and the very real and seriously welcome freedom and comfort that comes from having your hands attached by 3 feet of wire, not 3 inches of plastic. . Factor in the Wii only widescreen support -no small consideration- and it's clear which version is a must have."
"The questions it answers are the important ones. Is it a challenge? Is it a mystery? Will it make your heart stop? Is it Zelda? Yes, yes, yes and yes."
whoa. if that's not a serious piece of hype material, i don't know what is. i think i'm buying into it too, lol.

i don't want to spend $363.77 :(
NOT BAD! do it, ian. my calculation is like 460. i'll definitely have to trim a bit.
im going to stop reading about wii now. i want to be overwhelmed with surprise day of release, just someone tell me when the release date is
Nov 19th!
hey we can start pre orders soon right?
yeah they started this past weekend i think. walmart.com already sold out of preorders.
btw, i won't be preordering, since i hate the idea.
i'll just show up at walmart, target, or best buy first thing on sunday morning.
Pretty fair editorial on Nintendo over the past console generations, and his feelings on the Wii.
http://gameinformer.com/News/Story/200609/N06.0915.1324.09291.htm
Great history lesson, and a sober outlook on the new console.
I wonder how it will all turn out!
after reading this i'm going to wait for lots of feedback...
i think thats a pretty 'meh' editorial, eventhough i didnt take time to read it thoroughly
for one
nintendo has never been about being the most graphicaly intense console. yet that doesn't mean it hasn't been creative in it's design. people who focus on graphics tend to play some pretty boring games.
Oh and a great example of what i mean is, take a look at WoW. That stupid game can still play (although not well) on sub 1GHZ machines with 512 RAM. The artwork is awesome, but the game is not 'that' graphically enhanced
yeah, i agree.
it's all about having fun with the games that you play, not being floored by the graphics. imo.
and nintendo games are always super duper fun
unless you're thai and you hate zelda and life
agreed. But the point he makes is that nintendos recent consoles haven't kept up with games. And third party designers haven't put much effort into design and when they do it had taken them so long. Just more of a review about the seeming ineptitude of management
my inner nerd just went into to convulsions of ecstasy.
I cannot believe that I am caving to peer pressure.. I am going to purchase a Wii.
This will be the first EVER game/game-system anything I have ever owned.
come on, its alright, all the cool kids are doin' it.
haha nice! do it do it
Did you see that most of the games (all first party) are going to regionless as well!
yeah! this is very cool. i've never played an import game before (other than in an emulator), but this sure makes it easier to do so
Ugh, why didn't I notice before it is only 480p rez?
Yeah, they're not doing HD.. they've said that all along. I guess the installed HDTV installed base isn't large enough yet.
I hear that Gamecube looks great in 480p, though...
yes but it does have "Ferrari under the hood."
I guess if i owned a hd tv i might care, but i don't.
haha I googled this ^^^^^^ expression... I am figuring that you speak of Linux... but I like the idea of the Lancia
at his home in Italy, Sirio Maccioni, owner of the fashionable New York restaurant Le Cirque, drives an unprepossessing Lancia. But a member of the club would know from the throaty burble that it is in fact a Ferrari under the hood. The Agnelli family, whose company manufactures both Lancia and Ferrari, began producing this stealth Ferrari in the 1980s, when leftist politics made it imprudent to display wealth too explicitly.
haha, no that's an actual quote in regards to the wii. i saw that too but i can't remember where..
