I was in a car group the other day with another sister my age, the PO and his wife. The wife of the PO started talking about how it is "disgusting" for a brother to date someone more than 10 years younger than he is. She said that if you are thinking about how everyone will be the same age in the new system then go ahead but you are taking your chances. The sister riding in the back seat with me didn't think 10 years was such a big deal and neither did I. I dated someone 12 years older and didn't think much of it. However, I would never date anyone my mothers age-45. Or 40, that's way too close. I was wondering would this sister think it worse for a sister to date someone 10 years younger? Usually, people think it's weird to see an older woman with a younger man. I am curious to know what others think on this age thing...

i love the adwords for this one

"older woman woman - free to join - 1000's of beautiful older women"

i'm picturing the old lady from the wedding singer

i noticed that one too. when i said older though, i didn't mean baby boomer.

brothermanOG 2004 ·

You mean 16 year olds are a no-go? Hahaha

ilikebirds ilikebirdsOG 2002 ·

I dated a 42 yr old when I was 5.
She'd bake me cookies and bring them to me in kindergarten.
Buy me clothes and kiss me.

Actually... It was weird.

Common knowledge.

malibu malibuOG 2001 ·

how is that common knowledge? i have never heard of it before.

Gotta luv urban dictionary

superhero superheroOG 2004 ·

wow, i've never heard this rule before (that I can remember, anyway)

my general rule was

19 and under - 2 yrs plus or minus
20 - 23 - 3 years plus or minus
24 - 28 - 5 years plus or minus

i didn't really have a plan for if i got to 28 and was still single

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

28 - 33 - 10 years minus no plus

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

I didn't know there was a mathematical equation for dating.

Ah, as long as they aren't jail bait you are fine. Hahaha

for some people its 16 - 35, 25 years plus or mins

superhero superheroOG 2004 ·

people continue to give such harsh opinions as if they are fact. I don't understand why. i know many people who do this. i hope i never do this intentionally.

my wife happens to be older than me by 10 days. I think this is great, because we grew up on similar experiences due to the time periods. I also think that age can make some match-ups seem too crazy - a 45 yr. old with an 18 yr. old doesn't sound like a recipe for success, but it may work out, depends on the case of the individuals, their maturity levels, their ability to resolve problems, and their reliance on Jehovah - same as with any marriage.

originalsnob originalsnobOG 2004 ·

Who's giving harsh opinions? I agree w/ you "depends on the case of the individuals" we're just making small talk in here...NO DRAMA =)

i might be wrong but he might have been referring to the sister who was telling me that certain differences in age are disgusting. If you knew her though, it's just the way she and her family is. They have strong opinions-it makes service lively. I wasn't offended, I like older men. I just can't help myself. Haha.

superhero superheroOG 2004 ·

yes, that's what i meant.

To each his own. But if you were like the female in a "Harold and Maude" type relationship, that would be WEIRDDDDDDDDDd

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

Bobby: dude she's 16...
Jeff: I know, finally!

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

I am 27 and if i was single I would date someone 37, 40 even probably more likely than dating someone my age

my husband is 2 years younger than me and i dont' think that's a big deal either really i always forget he's not the same age as me ha

i don't think it matters, and again, people who try to force their opinion on you are annoying and telling someone that somethign they are doing is "disgusting" when it's not soemthing that's actually wrong and not even a conscience matter just a matter of personal opinion ... well that's offensive and just not fabulous at all

if it's someone TWICE your age in my opinion that gets into the creepy zone cuz then it's like old enough to be your parent type thing.. but 10-15 years to me is no big deal

and even still if someone really was attracted to MUCH older people, who am I to say that is creepy, ya know what i mean? it's what they like! haha

basically as long as both people are over 18 and legally allowed to date then it's really no one's business how old they are! seriusly.

toxicgirlOG 2003 ·

I kinda thought "disgusting" was a bit dramatic myself.

originalsnob originalsnobOG 2004 ·

I don't think it matters but, as a personal preference I'm not sure I would date anyone younger than myself.

malibu malibuOG 2001 ·

yeah but when you meet people do you immediately tell them how old you are? you probably wont even know how old the guy is.

originalsnob originalsnobOG 2004 ·

I don't know, people often think I'm older + I tend to stay away from the tiny bopper scene. While it is nice to be young (because I am)and just relax and enjoy and just be silly once & a while I left most of that back from 12-18. There are exceptions I can't say age automatically equals maturity (DEF CANNOT SAY THIS) especially in the truth but, I'm just not really inclined towards the younger crowd because I feel that that is no longer my place...again this is just ME. Everyone is different, they way people are raised, and things that they experience play a large role in their perception in this area to.

Funny that you mention it though, at this party recently I was chatting with this bro. (I just happen to know he's 26) but, he just came right out and was like "How old are you?"

malibu malibuOG 2001 ·

whenever i hear this question is just makes me want to ask, "do you have no manners?" who comes right out and asks that? especially to girls. maybe just me but you get that information from friends.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

wait, i think she means me, lol

oh well!

originalsnob originalsnobOG 2004 ·

Would you shut up, it was soooooooo NOT YOU (why would I say this about someone I know would read it??? Hello knock knock)...Just this hottie I've had my eye on MUAH HAHAHAHAHA!

T
toxicgirlOG 2003 ·

I definitely agree. I would never flat out ask someone's age. I'd try to find out from a friend or relative whether or not he falls within my range.

tesoro tesoroOG 2001 ·

10 years is not bad at all. 20 years...that is pushing it...if someone is old enough to be your parent, it's a no go zone.

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002 ·

I dated someone 7 years older when I was 18. And now my boyfriend is 4 years younger than me. Age isn't the issue-maturity is.

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

Well forrest we all know that relationship you had when you were 18 was Hope-less.... haha

And yes maturity is the main issue...

Wait wait actually if we combine our powers of persuasion maybe Ian will crack...even if we can only edit the comment after the first few mins of posting that's good enough, if we need longer it's prolly something that shouldn't have been posted to begin with =)
