So... another boring post season has come and gone... Come on... two series total were not sweeps! Anyway, its time to discuss free agent activity and potential trades for the 2008 season.

I think the Mets are a front runner for ARod even though Cali teams are being discussed. I could see the Mets dealing Reyes to Minnesota for Santana and signing ARod to play SS. They'd get the best all-around player in the game and the top starting pitcher in baseball. Welcome to the World Series NY Mets!

What deals do you see being made? Discuss.

The Mets are the team to beat in the NL now that Santana is their ace. He makes the whole pitching staff better. The bullpen will get more rest since he goes deep into games and it takes pressure off of the other starters to produce big numbers.

jp jpOG 2003 ·

santana is dominant. it could give the mets the boost they need to be, really, the only good team in the NL.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Yup. Now watch him break his leg in spring training. haha

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

so they go clemens, pettite, sheffield, and giambi (big surprise). and lo duca from the mets

hey, we should make an "all mitchell report" team

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

And Todd Hundley who owns the single season record in HRs (41) for a catcher while playing with the Mets. I knew for 10 years he was on them. The guy doubled in size in a two year period.

jp jpOG 2003 ·

correct me if im wrong, didnt pettitte only take them when he was injured to recover quicker?

some of these guys were surprises...jerry (jay-dub) hairston, brian roberts - theyre not very big

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

He used them for a 2 day period to try and heal quicker. I don't hold that in the same light as a Barry Bonds or Jose Canseco who abused steroids over a long period and put up monster numbers. In fact, HGH is not the same as steroids.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

it's still illegal, but yeah not as bad as those other guys

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Well, when he used it, it wasn't illegal.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

yes it was. and never a good idea when you're buying stuff from "some guy" that's not even a doctor prescribing it to you. it's the same as buying drugs. and the whole "apology", "IF i did anything wrong" blah blah, i dunno, rings kinda hollow

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Let me rephrase that, it wasn't illegal in MLB. That had no rules for it in 2002 when Pettite did them. Also, you can't say his stats are tainted just because he used them 2 times in a short period. Whereas the likes of Bonds, Canseco, and McGwire can be questioned.

jp jpOG 2003 ·

seriously...baseball should be blamed for this. players hold minimal blame. nobodys telling you NOT to do it. there are no rules in place. had there been, then this would not have been so rampant. MLB needs to take the blame for this one.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Roger Clemens and Andy Pettite have been implicated to roids.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Looks like if McGwire stays out of the HOF, Clemens will not make it either.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

MITCHELL REPORT OUT TODAY OR TOMORROW!

I hear it's supposed to be a bad day to be a yankee fan

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Or a Mets fan. I'll laugh if A-Rod is implicated before his deal is finalized and the Yanks void the deal.

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

Isnt it always a bad day to be a yankee fan?!

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

no matter what the baseball/football/soccer/basketball/hockey/cricket teams do this year, i will... well...feel nothing

i love being free

haha

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

If the Mets deal Reyes to get Santana, I will be pissed.

jp jpOG 2003 ·

Santana to yanks? mets? sox?

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Whoever deals the best prospects will get him. Don't leave the Dodgers out of the equation.

jp jpOG 2003 ·

not necessarily, apparently. the fact that the twins would consider jon lester and coco crisp over phil hughes and melky cabrera is evidence that they are a) blithering idiots or b) in cahoots with boston.

any fool and their grandmother know that phil hughes is a better prospect than lester, not to mention lester is coming off cancer recovery. so he's a risk. plus hughes is regarded as one of the future pitching stars of MLB.

then cabrera is much more promising than coco crisp. sure hes got a fun name, but he hit .230 for most of the season last year. the melk man has to be worth more.

and then boston says they will only include ellsbury without lester...give me a break. man up and offer a fair trade. who gives a crap about just jacoby ellsbury. if you really want santana, offer ellsbury and bucholz. that would be on par with melky/hughes.

if the red sox actually pull off their blind robbery, i wont know what to say...the twins truly would have to be idiots to take that crap offer. who the heck wants coco crisp and jon lester. you might as well offer armando benitez and kenny lofton.

jp jpOG 2003 ·

incidentally, i hope neither team gets him. i like having hughes and melky, but i dont want the sox to get him either.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Kenny Lofton hits like .650 in the playoffs though.

jp jpOG 2003 ·

yeah, i suppose i should know that as well as anyone

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Tori Hunter signs with the Angels for 5yrs/80million. I think he's over-rated.

jp jpOG 2003 ·

i certainly agree.

jp jpOG 2003 ·

wow. on espn, it says 90 mil. thats 18 mil/year. thats a heck of a lot for a career .271 hitter, with a .324 lifetime on base. he's had 100 RBI twice.

but what happens to gary matthews jr? this does, however, give the angels a ridiculous defensive outfield. matthews-hunter-vlad is amazing.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Wow... A big reason for his contract, must be because of the one Beltran signed with the Mets. Their offensive numbers aren't too far off from each other, but both have gold glove defensive abilities.

jp jpOG 2003 ·

true...although beltran usually provides more HR/rbi.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Not that much more. This year their numbers were almost identical.

jp jpOG 2003 ·

A-Rod in negotiations with yanks...

g.f.s.rocks g.f.s.rocksOG 2001 ·

Yeah, looking to make more dough... he probably realizes the Yankees are going to look like idiots when he returns to them with a butt load of money that the skanks said they wouldnt pay him... smart move A-Rod

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Yeah, but this time Boras isn't representing him. A-Rod is repping himself. So he might take less now than what Boras figured on.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

$275 million for 10 yrs it would appear.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

hes SO lame....baseball players do JACK adn want a bazillion $$'s to wear tights and stand there.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

They play 162 games versus a football player playing 16 or 82 for a hockey and basketball player. It's pretty much the equivalent.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

they do NOTHING. they get a bruise on their finger and they're out for a few weeks. hockey players get a busted lip or hit in the head, they walk in the back, get stitched up and are right back out playing. its grittier and requires more skill...football too.

another over paid sport....basketball.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Uh, there are plenty of players that play with broken bones. The Red Sox 2nd baseman Dustin Pedroia played with a wrist fracture or something the last couple of months of the season. Carlos Delgado played the whole 2006 season with tennis elbow. Pedro Martinez's shoulder was falling off for like 3 yrs before he got it repaired. He still pitched. You don't have to be flung around by others to physically exert yourself. If you break up the football schedule into 162 segments of 16 games, the physical exertion doesn't sound so impressive then. Same with hockey or basketball.

What players make is based off of the revenue teams bring in.

jp jpOG 2003 ·

then again, i dont watch sports to see people get hurt and then come back and still play. just because a sport is grittier doesnt make it better. also, most sports science research says that hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports.

that being said, i love hockey. but baseball is my favorite sport, so i had to defend it :)

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

i wasnt saying that is the gist of sports...im saying that some take more of a beating in some sports than baseball.

B
brothermanOG 2004 · socalgal

Taking a beating is not skill.

R
rocksupastarFounder · brotherman

im a big fan of both sports, altho id rather play then watch, and i gotta say... you have to atleast RESPECT a player, baseball or hockey that pushes through pain and continues playing while injured. its always impressed me atleast...

B
brothermanOG 2004 · rocksupastar

Definitely. Players with heart are fun to watch.

jp jpOG 2003 · socalgal

thats true. but baseball gets hated on here in ezabel world. when really, its, like, the best ever.

B
brothermanOG 2004 · jp

We're old school JP. At one time baseball was the ONLY sport that was talked about.

BTW, I hope Bonds goes to jail and they stricken his records from the book.

jp jpOG 2003 · brotherman

thats right. baseball is the only sport that is as big in the offseason as it is during the season. every day, the sports page in the star ledger has baseball news right on the front sports page! so im excited for hot stove talk.

hunkpapap hunkpapapOG 2003 · jp

yeah i'm with you guys, I love baseball more than anything else. I've come to realize not everyone feels this way, oh well

B
brothermanOG 2004 · hunkpapap

You need to chime in more buddy. We need more Pro-Baseballers.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

the mets should buy out jose reyes' contract and sign david wells to play short. they would save money, and get a big fatso to plug up the hole between 1st and 2nd

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

Matt you are just so funny. I want a Matt Kelly poster hung up in my room so that I can be reminded everyday what perfection really is. ;oP

LOL!

B

Hey just cuz your man boobs get in the way of swinging a bat, don't hate! haha

R

u clearly never played softball with me at the cong picnics.... i was a regular babe ruth...

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

i think one of the SoCal teams are going to get A-Rod...preferably Angels.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

The Dodgers have a better chance of snagging him than the Angels. I keep hearing the owner doesn't want to spend $30 million a yr on one player.

B
brothermanOG 2004 ·

The Yankees are dumb... 4yrs for a 36yr old catcher is retarded.
