Playing Video Games
its not a hidden fact that i falter in the video game department. i stink at it, can't control any of the buttons. all i know is i loved my original nitendo from '87. i rocked at mario brothers, duck hunt, or the racing pad where you can't wear shoes. but recently have found myself in so many places where i was forced to play video games or watch them play for hours. what exactly is the attraction? i just can't understand it. it's not even that its a guy thing either. but after reading and ignoring countless journals and comments on all new game systems i just gotta ask, why do you all love them so much?

because it's a group activity that requires no effort...like, everyone in my hall used to play hockey all the time, then we realized we would be less sore and tired if we just played nhl 96...from there, it was all downhill. seriously, it's like being online, except in a group. yeah. wow. i like unwritten law. yes.
Yeah same thing here. My hall has alot of single 35 yearold guys. so video games are a group thing you can do and you dont have to talk to anybody while you do it. and some people just like getting their hands all sweaty
that's pretty sad. although nhl 96 was the best game ever! bert, his bro paul, and me would create a season, stay up all night and barely make the playoffs, and then get eliminated in the first round
Id play by myself in the basement so Id creat players alot. Id build a whole team with me as the best player and id get 1000 some goals in a season
yeah man you guys ever see swingers where vince vaughn shows everyone how to make wayne gretsky's head bleed in nhl 95?? SOOO classic. that game was awesome. i got nhl 99 for my n64, not the same.
definitely not, the old games were much better. mario bros 3, mike tysons punchout, super street fighter, nhl 96...
hahaa duuude i went to this bar in brooklyn and all nite was video game nite where they had couches set up w/ little tv screens... mike tysons punch out and dual dragon allll nite!
i mean double dragon
what freaking bar?
its in brooklyn heights, halcion
battletoads VS. double dragon man...
i think it's just a fun way to interact using cutting edge technology! also, on a more fundemantal level, people are very much held down by what they physically can't do. it's a struggle. i've tried skateboarding, got to the point where i could stay on the board and i kinda stopped. then i saw Tony Hawk Pro Skater and melted! on the game I could do all the nutty tricks i knew i'd never be able to do in real life...and don't even get me started on Goldeneye or Halo--LET ALONE VICE CITY. unfortunately the things done in those games are all things we wish we could do. such pretty pretty graphics. who knew the pied piper was made by microsoft or sony? actually, i think i've known all along. shapes and sizes, brothers and sisters, shapes and sizes...
Ha ha...
It's hard to explain... it's a form of escape I guess... you are able to explore "virtual worlds", especially with the newer technology available... also in some genres you can do things you can't ordinarially do, like become Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, James Bond, etc. Then you can DO the things they do, like swing on a web, fly, etc...
There is a fine line between enjoying the escape every now and then and being obsessed. I know I enjoy the games, I admit I CAN be obsessed in a way (moreso in the past) but try to keep it in balance.
Why, yesterday I was at Luke's place and brought my Dreamcast over... we played for about 2 hours... it was fun, but after awhile went outside to hang out and get fresh air.
ahhhhh superman...
do you like to read? or watch movies? why do you enjoy them so much?
for me, the same reason i enjoy those is the same reason i like video games. i love stories, but i also love challenges and interactive stories. i see video games as like a unique type of storytelling (at least the types of games that i enjoy fit into that description).
it's also about improving your skills in the game to the point that you can beat it, or figuring out puzzles.
i like to read to expand my mind.
exactly! that's another big reason i like video games. they make you think in different ways, and stimulate your brain!
exactly it is about problem solving...
my hand/eye coordination is second to none!
never thought about those two points. i gues that is true. if they made em so i could play outside, i would fully support them.
and now i realize that you can play them outside. but i mean like bring the big x-box outside would be cool. "say it with me people, sunlight."
my friend's mom used to set up her kid's nintedo outside. they would play in lawn chairs, by the pool. it was odd.
i bet it was odd. i'd be playing and yelling, "get some, get some" and my neighbors would call the police. also when i'm outside i never want to stay still. it'd never work. i'd see a butterfly glide across my field of vision and i'd just walk away..
now if i can only find someone willing to drive my warthog while i

I enjoy watching people play video games. You missed the day Luke and Jesse faced off on 007..it was very amusing.
well i watched them play for i kid you not 5 hours the other day. with matt and jennifer playing as well. it was comical and interesting to watch. but.....yeah.... uh huh...
i play vid games to escape the reality that is now
I play video games cause its a challege, im stuck all day working on crap, its cool to do something that you ever do, ie, drive a car at 140 through traffic, fly an airplane.. stuff like that, it keeps the day interesting...
i was thinking the same thing-you can blow up buildings and machines, wreck all the cars you can crash into or drive over, have a high speed chase with the cops-it's like living a crazy fanatsy. Plus the competitive element w/ other people, esp siblings, is fun too.
esp. siblings?? how about esp. PARENTS :) Dad was a nut with MechAssault
me and jon have played 2 nights already, have a few games of BurnOut before bed, and its VERY competitive... hehe
Mechassualt for the XBOX ?
huh huh i love that game !
yea, for XBOX...one of the guys in our hall lent it to my little brothers, and I think my dad played it more than them. You'd find him sitting on the sofa playing it when no one else was home.
oh man i need to challenge him... oh man.. i want to play !
he's pretty sucky at it, give the old guy a break. You're just trying to kill him off so you can marry my mom.
why do you always have to blow up thai's spot?! maybe he JUST really wants to play video games...not kill our dad
don't defend him, those asians never have pure motives. you're still at home so you would have to live under his little iron fist, not me
please i'd spank you so hard josh will scream like a little girl. liz portugal would even feel it.
hahahahahahahah....josh screams like a little girl anyway. He learned it from Bill
so what. angie's hott.
he was the best to beat, esp b/c he would get so mad! but he wasn't as challenging, mike & josh were so annoyingly good i wanted to blow them up in real life. haha good times.
i've already become a better surfer by playing transworld surf...
oooh is that a good game??
yea it's alright... if you're good. so hard.
we should get a game of timesplitters going. Now that is a great multi player game....
never heard of it,whats it about?
So I'm back in California now.. there is a family here that, in their rec room, has FOUR classic arcade games.. Centipede and a few others... I can't wait to get there.
oh, so THAT'S why you're out there...
