New JOB!
I got the job in Florham Park that I was lusting after. Yippeeeeeeee! It's $11,000 more per year than I'm making now. That's really the best part. I told them I'd start two weeks from Monday, but now I'm nervous.
The owner of the firm and the attorney that I work for had a meeting with me on Monday. They asked if I was planning on quitting. At that point, I didn't know if the job in Florham Park was definite, so I said, "No." Now I'm totally renegging. I'm so nervous to talk to my boss...
Why am I scared to quit? It's something that I've wanted to do for a while. I've got butterflies swarming in my stomach.

holy that's a lot more money
why did they think you were planning on quitting? congrats on the job!
I was mean to my office manager. In my defense, though, she was really mean to me first!
Haha, so you were mean, and then she asked, "Aren't you going to quit soon?" and you said "No."
Basically, yeah.
Congratulations!! What do you exactly do??
I'm a legal secretary. This new firm is a lot bigger than my current one. It's got about 50 attorneys and 4 offices in 3 states. We're also the #1 firm in the country with regard to asbestos litigation. It's pretty interesting stuff.
asbestos litigation that does sound interesting.... how long have you been working in that field?
This'll be my first job in it. Right now I'm in family law. I think it'll be an interesting switch.
hercules! hercules!
be as honest and as professional as possible. tell them exactly what you've told us. also express your gratitude and appreciation for having you, even if you don't entirely mean it. Also, you could tell them what you going to make at the other company and see if they'll match it. thats a longshot though.
Fivezero has it right on the money... it would be great if they gave you a counter offer for more $$!!
salary-matching is great...until the decide to let you go after one month. then what?
geeze, I'd love to be making an extra 11k a year. pay off my stupid car loan.... ughg. so jealous.
hmm that would pay off my car loan and half my school loan :/
Your still paying for the Xterra?
psssh. yeah. for the next 2 and a half years. Advice to young people thinking about buying a car: save for a downpayment and don't finance everything including the sales tax. bad idea.
Dean, that stinks.... So in other words your saying SAVE SAVE SAVE... right?
good for you, diane...one piece of advice: hand in a simple resignation letter.
On their letterhead...that would be awesome
wow. i have no idea who you are but i read it because it said 'new job' and i am very jealous. i am currently looking and it STINKS. dont be scared to talk to your boss. remember, you are doing what is best for you and your boss should be able to appreciate it. AND - you already got the job so who cares. you no longer need your boss as a reference.
ooooo i am such a fan of your username.
