Conversion Question UPDATE
My office uses both WordPerfect and Word for Office 2000 Small Business. I like to use only Word, and I've been told that I should, as the rest of the world does, and it's just that our office hasn't totally switched all of our documents yet. I couldn't convert a WordPerfect doc to Word, so the tech guy (Kevin) put the converter on my computer with the Win2kSB disc.
Now, I get only characters from the font "RefSpecialty" when I convert only some documents from Wordperfect to Word. When I change the font to arial, the characters turn to all blocks. When I cut and paste the characters on to another document, like this journal, for example, they come out normally. When I cut and paste in the document, though, it keeps the blocks.
Kevin's official position is that I'm screwed.
Has this ever happened to anyone? Any suggestions? HELP!
UPDATE
I downloaded openoffice. It will convert back and forth with Word, but not wordperfect. I then found another file to convert wordperfect to openoffice, but again, not to word directly. I'm not saving any time converting wordperfect to open office then to word. I swear, I'm going to scream.

wow ummmm that was a lot of words that wouldn't make sense to me unless I actually saw the problem with my own two eyes . . . it's funny, cause all I do at work all day is fix problems like that for people . . . but I don't use Office 2000, and I've never heard of anything like that b4 . . . all I know is, in WordPerfect, you should be able to save documents in Word format, so that when you open them in Word, it should bring any font properties with it, rather than trying to open the WP docs in Word directly. But that's the only suggestion I can offer . . . maybe it'll help.
But I'm trying to open existing wordperfect docs in word. That's where I can't convert properly.
Ah . . . so that means you no longer have access to WordPerfect, right? That might be a problem . . .
No, I still have both. It's just a pain to have to open both because WP runs about 90% slower than word.
just go to your boss and say " convert this " and punch him in the face. i'd love your more if you did ... ?
yea thats definatly something not to say to your boss
although its very funny
You mean it's possible for you to love me more? I thought we were already at our apex...
try this: http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/xp/journ/orkbeta.htm. maybe that'll work.
otherwise, maybe openoffice would work.
In Microsoft, do you mean the converter pack that comes with the new office 2003? For openoffice, I'd use it at home, but I don't want to download anything here, I don't think the powers that be like that.
well, that converter pack i linked is i think a separate download. you might be able to install it and get it to work for you. i'm not really sure.
also, if you are required to do something, you then you should require whatever tools you need to get the job done! show them who's boss, and download and install all kinds of software!
I, I've only been here less than one month! It takes at least 3 before they start to realize my vigilante ways. I agree with you, though. They kinda just gave up, so it really is still my problem to fix however I see fit. I should just bring in my laptop.
hm. that stinks. did they actually tell you not to install anything?
I got permission to download whatever I needed. What specifically on the page should I download? I tried ork.exe and it said I needed a newer version of windows. I have '98 with Office 2000 Small Business.
oooh. that won't work then. you might be stuck with openoffice, if that even works at all :/
Hahahha. Ian- You are sooooo getting her fired. Hmmmmm. So i'll download kazaa and instant messenger, and oooooooh whats this winamp and oooooooh whats this 56324902394934 kinds of spyware. yeeeeeehooooo!
