Two years ago today...
...it was September 11, 2001. It is a day we will never forget. Where were you when you heard about the news, and how did you react? My story:
I was a sophomore, and the school year had just begun. I was dragging through the school morning, despite it being a beautiful sunny day, after sitting up to watch the Giants lose to the Broncos on Monday Night Football the night before. The announcement came over the loudspeaker while I was in Driver's Ed class. After the announcement that planes had hit the World Trade Towers, a guy in my class was called down to the office. He had a stunned look on his face, and someone asked what he thought it was for, and his response was that his father worked at the Twin Towers. Thankfully, he returned minutes later to report that his dad was just calling to say he was alright, and that he took the late train in that day so he was not in the building. We were still in shock, but I think most kids, including myself, assumed that planes could damage the towers but not cause them to collapse. Around 6th period, rumors were spreading about the collapse, and the bombing of the Pentagon, as well as some untrue rumors about the Mall of America being in flames or something (shows you what the kids at my school are worried about). We got out of school and the only thing on the radio and TV was, of course, coverage of the event. TV channels were locked on the towers, even non-news channels. I called a couple people I know who have parents who work in the Trade Center, and thankfully, nobody I know was lost (One of my friend's fathers was actually on a buisness trip in Chicago at the time, rather than at his normal everyday job on the 102nd floor, I believe). I hadn't actually been to Ground Zero until May 2003, but it looks so empty down there in Manhattan. I'm not sure what will happen there, but whatever is built, it won't erase my memory of that day.

Yeah I remember where I was. For some reason I took off work and Todd was sleeping over. Todd came and woke me up just when the first building was hit... he woke me saying "a plane just went right into one of the the twin towers" I really didn't know what he was talking about... until i came downstairs and saw it on tv for myself.
That day had the weirdest feeling. Everyone, everywhere was shocked, confused, and horrified. No was was smilling, laughing or even happy and I understand why. It was a terrible day, and i don't think I will ever forget it.
I just remember feeling so helpless, watching so many people trapped, some people jumping ... holding hands, others on the roof awaiting rescue. It makes my stomach sink just thinking about it.
I remember watching it on TV and talkign to reaf on the computer cos she was workin in the city at the time... and I remember seeing the second tower collapse and I couldn't breathe.
I was in my chem class and sum kid in the hall said that the towers were hit but my chem teacher didn't believe us and he wouldn't let us turn on the TV to find out... actully, i must admit i didn't believe it either... but then for the rest of the day, in every class, all we did we watch CNN to get the latest... scary stuff... its weird that its been a year already... it seriously feels like it was just yesterday..
my great uncle was staying with us that week for some reason. i was also starting college at NJIT in newark that week, and i was taking a shower getting ready to drive in to my second day of classes. when i got out of the shower my mom told me that a plane had hit one of the twin towers and i just didn't really get it at first i just didn't totally comprehend it. then finally when i saw it on TV it was just unbelievable, i was in shock i didn't know what to do. i remember hearing that some kids at my school parking deck saw the planes hit. it was a terrible crazy time
i remember where i was too. i was working in Union City, just across the river from where it went down. we were auditing a pharmacy and a guy working there with us got a call from his brother who said a plane hit the towers. the guy didn't even believe it at first. then i guess he realized it wasn't a joke and he got really serious and told us and his co-workers what happened and at first we didn't believe it either. the skyline was a blocked by buildings where were so we didn't bother going outside to look. while we finished our job we listened to the radio and listened to all the stuff going on. but as we were leaving we could see all the smoke and stuff. it took us 5 hours to get home because of traffic. it's a completely gut wrenching, tragic thing. at least we have a hope for the future. i'm happy i'm not just completely adrift like so many people are.
i was at a light on the highway on my way home from early morning service when I heard it on the radio. weird b/c just 10-15 min before i had been standing on sandy hook looking over at the city b/c it was such a clear day and I could see everything. I thought it was a freak accident. at home my mom & i turned on the tv to see what was happening. just as the second plane hit the tv reception went dead. we listened on the radio. i still didn't think someone could have done it on purpose. then while in service a sister drove up and told us the pentagon was hit. Then I was really scared b/c who knew how many targets they had and we live near a naval weapons station. so we all went down to the bay in Union Beach and watched to towers burn and talked and witnessed to people there.
I remember when i was 3 years old... i ran through the park.. and i thought to myself that 'if you run slow when you are heavy' .. then you'd run faster ' if you were lighter' .. so i took off all my clothes and sneakers and stuff.. and ran around the park. no one had any idea what this naked asian kid was doing. but then they realized he was just trying to lighten up the mood. geez.
I was sitting in my Head&Neck Anatomy class and my teacher came out of his office with the most bizarre look on his face. He said he heard that through all the fog in the city a plane had hit the WTC. As he was saying it the second tower was probably hit. So we go back to the Dental Hygiene Clinic and tried to practice with the radio on. We were all so distracted and girls were crying. For lunch we went to the student union and everyone was crowded around TVs, it makes me shiver to remember the looks on ppl's faces.
I have an uncle who is a structural engineer and was working in Manhattan and saw the towers fall. My aunt works in DC and was driving to work when she saw the plane dive into the Pentagon.
we were on the bus goin to school and i think it was around 7:30. I had just woke up to hear on the readio what that a plane had flown into one the towers. Then a little bit later they said another one plane had hit the other towers. By the time i got to school, all the tv's were on, and I think the towers had already collapsed. People were just just wondering what was goin on, cuz nobody was very sure yet. In 1st period i think is when we saw the towers fall. I was happy to see on the screen bethel on the other side of the river nice and safe. In fact, a sister i know was there at bethe that day and she said you could see the bodies droppin even from over there. throughout the rest of the day our teachers couldnt stop talking about pearl harbor or about How "we're americans and this was an attack on all of us!" or trying their best to console their classes. Everybody was afraid of what would be next. Would they attack L.A.? What kind of war would this start? People even kept on talking about a possible WW3. When i got home i just cried and prayed. It was like the world had changed again forever.
funny, i thought the same thing-the world will never be the same
I don't really think about this day anymore!
Here's what was happening on eZabel in 2001.
News Story in the morning
/news/241
how did half these people post about the towers at 6:23 AM?
its a conspiracy!!! THEY KNEW!!! them and bill clinton! or george bush...who was president then anyway?
i'm pretty sure it was mr. bush. the 2nd one.
those times are off by 3 hours because of a time zone code change i made after that
(specifically, I moved the server from CA to NJ about a year ago, so everything posted before that was CA time)
so basically, you were dave, but in reverse?? you thought...i should get all my stuff (the ezabel server) and move to NJ to marry mikayla .. (?) plus, as a bonus, you got to meet I LIKE BIRDS
i wouldn't exactly call that a bonus
I remember when i got home from school, the entire service group was at my house, and we all just waited for my dad, because he works on wall street, and we didn't know if he was okay.
Then, after we waited a really long time, he walks in the door all dirty from the debris, holding a brown paper bag with milk and bread in it. Go figure...
MORE MILK...who need it

oh man, this gave me the chills thinking about it. i was in my sophomore year too, just started. it was during gym class, around when both towers were hit by planes that i heard the news. first thing that came to my mind was a brother in my congregation who worked there. i wasn't so worried cuz i kept thinking he'll be ok, i know i'll see him later today. everyone was talkin about it nonstop. seriously, as you walked down the halls, all you heard was people talking about the events that took place. we were all scared that since terrorists struck government buildings too, that schools might be a target. some of my teachers didn't even bother to talk about it. but it was last period in english class where we just had to ask questions. i left skool around 12pm. when i was walking home, all i could think about was the people in those buildings. i was so worried. wat was going on? i came home and my dad has the tv on and he's watching the news. first thing i did was call the brother's house. only his wife was home. now i started to really worry. i just sat in front of the tv and waited to know wat was really going on. around 3pm, i got a phone call and it was the brother! he got home safe :) i started to cry over the phone. me and my dad drove over and some friends from our congregation stopped by too. his story was, he ran late for work that day too cuz he didn't get enough sleep. his newborn baby kept crying all night.
it muatve been wierdhavin people in the area or even in the buildings that you knew, and plus it was a lot closer to you guys than it was to us on the west cosat, so we werent affected half as much as east coast people. Even thoug we were affected, it couldnt have as much impact as i did on people who were intimate with the city or who lived not so far from it
dude, you have no idea
ALL I Know is that if i work on the 90+ floor of any building... I'm always gonna have a glider in my office.. or a parachute and a bag of peanuts. or a large PBS channel 13 umbrella i got for donating 13 bucks.
I was at the unemployment office. woohoo!
i was in my 3rd period class. earth science. yup . all day in every class every tv was on and just nobody talking. i member one caster said it was like "nation rising against nation" that freaked me out.
I was home sick that day with a 103 fever. My mom told me what happened and i thought i was hallucinating. Then i found out that a girl from school who I've known for almost my whole life, her mom was killed.
