Single

ekulu by ekulu · Jan 13, 2004 · 565 views · · · Journal

I used to want to fall in love. I used to want to taste the gentle, sweet feeling of falling in love, the nudge of possibilty that you get when you realize that something could be between you and another person. After the last wedding i went to, i realized that maybe it would be a good thing for me to get married in the future, to work towards that as a goal. But then i though about it more. It would probably be a lot better for me to remian single right, maybe for as long as i could. But i woudlnt want to be one of those 35-40 year old guys with out a wife, becasue those kind of people kind of weird me out. What do i really see for my future? Should I really want and expect a future wife who will be by my side Serving Jah? Or should i go it alone? What's so great about being married? What better freedom could i have being single? The oldest age around here for sinlge, never married people is about 30. After that, it seems that the prospect of such a person gettin married is very small. Should i try to enjoy singleness for hte next decade then try to get married before i reach my "expiration date"?

don't listen to MK. the ones who are 35-40 and single and weird haven't DONE anything with their lives...never went to MTS or worked in regional in another country, or did temp work at bethel or worked on an assembly hall. use spiritual goals as measurements.

being almost 30 and single ain't that bad . . . okay it is . . . but i resent that whole "expiration date" thing . . .

you should come to my hall. They have lots of older single girls no one wants like Danny hahaha.

specialk specialkOG 2003 ·

There's lots of single girls at my hall, but a lot of them are 19, 20, or 21. All the older ones are married.

thewalkhome thewalkhomeOG 2003 ·

dude, i can totally set you up with a sister in my hall..ok, so shes collecting social security..but...when youre 70 or older, youre allowed to say anything to anyone, sleep as much as you want, get one of those awesome pride jazzy scooters, and no one says anything if you show up with blue hair. its cake.

hahaha, i love the expiration date, lol. Dude.. there is no such thing... do whatever you need to do, and who cares what everyone else does... cause in the end, if you get married for any other reason than loving the person, you wont be happy.

if you're 15+ and single, you're the biggest loser this world has ever seen. just quit

tinser tinserOG 2002 ·

thats only the rule if you're from pennsylvania though

You got that right, that's why I have to move to NJ

specialk specialkOG 2003 ·

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! No joke!! They marry 'em YOUNG in the area my brother lives in! My cousin is almost 23, and she's single, and she said she feels like the old maid of her congregation.

T
toxicgirlOG 2003 ·

And some of the older happily married sisters like to speculate as to why you would be visiting ppl an hour away. Translation: You must be dating someone to drive that gosh darn far!!!

tinser tinserOG 2002 ·

yeah...after you turn 18, you better be married or you're an old maid there...haha, its ridiculous

juicymango juicymangoOG 2003 ·

yeah i was in Pennsy for only a short time and people were shocked when i said i wanted to be single for a while. There was this one guy we hung out with who was WAY cute but he was a senior in high school and I was I think 22.. I didn't even THINK of him as an "option" .. and this other guy who was like 19 i think who I also just saw as a friend, but people thought i liked these guys and tried hooking me up sorta kinda. Cos you know, how can a 22 year old girl in PA WANT to be single. Haha.

ekulu ekuluOG 2002 ·

that's how it over here up in the desert. people are so bored out there that all they do is get married (or do "married things" without the benefit of marriage). Most of them get married really young up there. At the convention with them you'll see tons of really really young couples

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

i have a niece that's hot looking... ;)

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002 ·

Adam seriously..don't make marriage a goal and then try and work towards it. It'll never work that way. Keep it as an option and just leave it there. If you find a girl (I'm assuming your looking for a girl) then you'll find a girl. If you don't, you can't just go marry one for the heck of it..well you could (that's what Vegas is for), but you'd miss out on the falling in love part.

N
nudeOG 2004 ·

"(I'm assuming your looking for a girl)" that made me giggle like a russian school girl.. that was good

beachbum beachbumOG 2002 ·

i agree. you find the right person when you're not even looking. and if you don't, you are still ok b/c you are occupied w/ even higher goals.

katiedid katiedidFounder ·

and the harder you look, the least likely you are to find someone (seems to be the way).

i love how married people give these kinds of answers

specialk specialkOG 2003 ·

There are a lot of people in my area who are single, and are in their mid 30's, and a few that are even older (like 40's), but they don't seem to mind. They are doing what they can to serve Jehovah, and they have focused on that first and foremost. Some are Pioneers, others have gone to Bethel, or served where the need is greater. There are others who got married around 30 or mid-30's, but they have put their focus on serving Jehovah first, in their younger days, and the blessing of finding a marriage mate seemed to follow. As long as you are following Jehovah's direction, and serving him to the fullest, then the blessings will be sure to follow.

men never have an expiration date... thats just the way it is... they just become "elligable bachelors"... dont worry.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002 ·

Ahaha or so they think!

walkngplaygrnd walkngplaygrndOG 2003 ·

please . . . that isn't very encouraging . . .

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

Seriously, enjoy your singleness! It truly is a gift, trust me! You're young enough and just keep putting Jah first and everything else will fall into place.

D
dgiaimoOG 2003 ·

And what exactly are we supposed to enjoy about it?

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

You're free to do whatever. Spend more time in service, hanging out with your friends. Traveling without worrying about saving much money for another person. There's just so much!

walkngplaygrnd walkngplaygrndOG 2003 ·

and what if all your friends are married and hanging out with them is just a constant reminder of how single you really are?

D
dgiaimoOG 2003 ·

Exactly. It's depressing to think that I'm probably the oldest single brother in my hall.

T
toxicgirlOG 2003 ·

I didn't think guys thought like that...

You seem nice, you should come to Pennsylvania and meet a friend from my congregation. She loves California.

walkngplaygrnd walkngplaygrndOG 2003 ·

are you serious, gab? you've never heard the "DR" say that before?

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003 ·

i've heard it. and it's ok, because ROB SANDERS is getting married. he's 45. here i give you HOPE in it's purest form.

T

holy whoa

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

WOW you need to move down south. There are so many singles out here its unbelieveable.

D
dgiaimoOG 2003 ·

I don't mean to be insulting, but I've lived in Southern California and I never want to move back.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

I'm sorry, why? Bad experience or you don't like it here?

D
dgiaimoOG 2003 ·

Many bad experiences. Few good ones. And I really don't like the area that much anyway.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 · dgiaimo

I'm sorry to hear that! Was it OC, LA or SD? I'm in OC. Serious you get a whole different world with each county - strange huh?

D
dgiaimoOG 2003 · socalgal

It was San Diego County. I lived in a small town called Ramona.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 · dgiaimo

I know where that is. YOu know next time you're down So Cal OC way, let me know, my friends and i will show you how fun and how cool the friends are here. Take it there are some bad ones, i'm not denying, but we have fun and make-do with what we have! I'm telling you each county is SO different from the next....

D
dgiaimoOG 2003 · socalgal

Thanks, but I'm never really down in So Cal anymore. (I haven't even been back to SD in years.) I'll keep it in mind though.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003 ·

Oh yes, I know what you mean, when i was like 18 all my friends were getting married, but i didn't let it bum me out. There's always ONE person that's not married that you can hang out with.

hunkpapap hunkpapapOG 2003 ·

yeah i have an ex in CA you can have. A little needy and naggy, but ok after you get over that and about, oh, 58 other quirks. I'll hook you up...
