how much of my foot fits in my mouth?

so sunday we had the speaker over. we knew them from when we were younger but had not seen them in years. so they have two children (not really kids). a boy who's 21 and named jason. and a girl who's 19 and named kristy. so some other brothers came over after we were done with our food and kristy asks one brother, "oh so you're in ________'s hall? you know her right." he replies, "yes of course." so jason is standing next to me so i turn to him and make hearts with my two hand. (i'm sure most people have seen me do this.) and i go "ooooooh". he looks at me, looks at my hands and goes, "yes actually we were."

i was stunned. that's the normal thing that i tease anyone about. just a joke. not to be serious. but then he says, "oh but not anymore." i'm like ~~~~oh okay. let's lighten this situation.~~~~ so i pretend to rip a heart from a chest and let it beat in my hand for a second and then throw it on the ground. and stomp on it. (my miming skills are excellent.) he then looks up from the stomped on fake heart and says, "yes actually that's what she did to me." my entire jaw just drooped lower. how could i be so right about this??

then he proceeds to tell me the story of how this girl was horrible to him, and has already had a child and been married a little more than a year after she broke up with him. all this horrible stuff. from here on i felt really bad. why did i bring it up? then he finishes telling the story and is like,

"oh so you know her?"
"no."
"then why did i tell you this?"
"i don't know"

just a little lesson to show that you never know how deeply and snugly your foot can sometimes fit in your mouth.
