First Dilemma

katiedid by katiedid · Jul 30, 2004 · 221 views · Journal

I can't believe it's been almost a year since Mike and I wed. In six weeks we shall engage in the custom of exchanging gifts and, of course, I'm at a loss. Not of what to give Mike (I have quite a few ideas) but what he should give me. He asked me what I wanted and I couldn't think of a thing. Is it possible that it's easier to know what Mike wants more than what I want? Even if I could think of something, deep down I think I would like Mike to come up with it on his own (or with the assistance of others) so that it's all a surprise. Ahhh, marriage. lol.
(Sorry, Supastar, I'm not telling what you're getting).

Yo, mike, i happen to know Katie pretty well, and I think she'd love an Ikea gift certificate (hint - buy online) and a coupon where you write "3 hours of Mike's time - helping you build whatever you buy" (hint - that means you would actually help her build it) ... haha... i'm sooo good at this game

yeah - definately leave it up to him cause gifts are all the more delightful when they're a surprise - BUT - make sure you enlist a team of advisors - otherwise you're gonna end up getting like.......

Katie: WHAT ON EARTH IS THIS????..A guitar amp???..Mike I don't even PLAY guitar!..
Mike: Hmm...is THAT right?....welllll then...Only one solution to this problem, I'LL USE IT!!..Thanks honey, you're the best..

I thought we'd all had the discussion about creative gift-giving: The CD case with your car key you gave Mike was sweet, think along those lines, Mikey. For our last anniversary, Donovan got me this leather writing box that I'd lusted after, a quill pen and an ink well, then he told me what a wonderful writer he thinks I am. Pick something that Katie likes to do, or something that she reasoned not to spend money on herself for. Chances are, there's a lot of stuff she sees in stores that she doesn't buy because she doesn't need it. If you payed attention and got her one of those things, the thoughtfulness itself would maker her really happy. It would be something that she wouldn't buy for herself, but wants to get.

exactly! I don't want to hand in a shopping list. His gift should be thoughtful and sweet. I think the best gift he ever gave me was when we were dating 6 months..... a turtle ring wrapped with a beautiful bow and fastened with a pretty turtle pin (cause I like turtles) and a Wallace and Grommit pop-up book (because we watched one of those movies on a date). Simple and romantic.

hmmm, this always seems like the age-old problem 4 guys. My mom & dad were married 4 like 20 years & he never succeded in giving her one gift that she really liked...maybe their divorce was long overdue? To me thats just someone who isn't paying attention or really even caring that much about what it is his wifes tastes are...sorry if i'm a bit negative, not that this happens to everyone, but it's close to home for me

People are so hard to buy presents for. Instead, buy a present for me! I am easy to shop for. The following things will be accepted:
-Anything Asian (especially Japanese)
-Anything Hello Kitty
-Flowers
-Money

You should shoot by my town if you're ever nearby - there's an asian store that's going out of business and everything is 60% off. They have really cool china, lamps and decor that ranged from $5-$100. Main Street, Bethlehem.
