Gimmie A Break....
Winter break, that is......
So Tyler is off from school for 2 weeks. He's zonked out up in his bed as we speak. In my opinion, the kid deserves it. The kid is awesoome, and he deserves a break every now and then, just like we all do.
So that got me thinking. When he goes back to school in 2 weeks, he's probably gonna hear about all the cool stuff all the other kids got for Christmas. I don't want him to feel like he never gets anything, so I came up with a plan. For the next 2 weeks, it's gonna be "his time." We're gonna do the stuff he's been asking to do for a while, but never have time. Today, for instance, we're going out to lunch where I work (he LOVES to eat there, but we haven't in a while), then we're going to get him his very own library card, then we'll probably go see a movie. Sometime later this week we'll go to the Newport Aquarium, and maybe the Children's Museum. Fun places like that, so he can also have something to say about his break, other than "I sat around and played video games and watched TV for 2 weeks straight. Plus, I'm off until Friday, so I have plenty of time to spend with him. AND that means I have more time to go out in service in the mornings....today wasn't an option with that though....it was a DEFINITE sleep-in day.
What did you guys do when you were on break from school? Got any suggestions as far as other stuff I could do to entertain him?

You're a cool mom!! Stuff like this is like the ONLY thing that makes me wanna have kids - hangin out with this little person that you created... that you can just chat with and who just loves you beyond belief. So cute.
I can't think of anything else to entertain him though. Maybe some lolipops.
Hahahaha....lollipops are ALWAYS an option. And thank you for the compliment. It's weird that, as he gets older, at first I was worried we'd lose the bond we had when he was a baby. But every single day it seems like he finds new ways to show ME how much love he has in his little heart for ME. I love it. I just wanna snuggle on the couch all day with him....but that wouldn't be tons of fun for him, hahaha. Maybe we'll do a movie day, and rent a bunch of stuff he never got to see in the theaters, and just veg on the couch.
that sounds like fun. With some hot chocolate, popcorn (ooh caramel popcorn!) and good snacks. Oh man I know sugary snacks are bad for kids but they're SO GOOD`
Yeah....he deserves a treat now and then. We just got one of those huge tins with the 3 different types of popcorn in it....SOOOOOO good. :)
oh man you know what you should do? (it may be a lot of work though)
make some cookies, and bring them to some older ones in the hall (short visits would be good for tyler, and older people may be not up for hour-long chats), that sounds like a good way to spend a day
oh that's a really really really cute idea!! aw
sup ladies! sorry, i'm spoken for! but let me introduce you to my friend patrick ...
hahahah what in the world
he's saying that he is taken and there is someone who can dance and bake cookies out there he would introduce people to..
aww sweetheart... i like you a little more than before if that's even possible.
YES EVERYONE -- that was all his idea.
That's a REALLY cool idea. And Tyler HAS been asking to make cookies for a while now. Plus, it will get him more involved with people at the hall, and teach him more about compassion and stuff.....GREAT idea, Dan. I am DEFINITELY gonna put that on my list. Thank you!! :)
thats an awesome suggestion....is this YOUR suggestion or from your girl? heehee
what's that supposed to mean? i thought of it myself. please refer to my questions 4 days ago about famous people who are supposedly studying. i would like an answer.
dude. I heard Thalia (spanish singer/actress) is studying and visited bethel last week.
treach from naughty by nature (i've heard)
smokey robinson
and that's all ive heard about.
i know damon wayans is DF'd (i've seen him at the conventions)....the chick who played lisa on SBB is a wit, seen her at a few parties years ago....
I have a twin brother, so we always entertained ourselves. However, when we were that age, we used to make treasure hunts for ourselves, write stories together, and play in the snow. We also lived on the same block as like 5 other kids, so we always had friends to play with.
Yeah, I'll have to ask what the other moms in our hall are up to the next few weeks. There are no kids his age in our neighborhood to play with, so I'll have to set something up with the kids in our hall. I'm not sure which moms work and which ones don't, though. But he does need a little more social interaction.
Teach him to dance. Get that done early.
I'd make my kid watch Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good the Bad and the Ugly. The best Western Trilogy ever created. I'd explain all the subtext and how the scores for these films might be the best ever orchestrated. I'd admonish him to watch Clint Eastwood very closely. My child will be a mini-Clint Eastwood. That's not weird, is it?
Not in the least, hahahaha. :)
YEAH BUDDY! There are two kinds of people in this world, those with a loaded gun and those who dig. You dig...
This is such a great idea! I always hated going back to school when people would be like "Oooh I got a pony" or "I went on a cruise around the world" and I'd be like "I..slept in every day" which is the best thing ever but doesn't really beat a pony.
This probably won't work so well for him but my mom always takes us shopping for a whole day and we get lunch out.
Is there snow on the ground? Is there any ski places around that have snow-tubing? I hear that's really fun to do.
Any in-door gaming places? Like..that have lots of video games (I guess that's called an arcade) sometimes they have like rock walls and go karts..that kinda stuff?
Yeah, I used to be HUGE with the rock climbing, but I haven't since I had him.....5 years ago, hahahaha. Maybe I'll take him to an indoor climbing gym.
sleeping was always a high point for me since i'm nocturnal. if i did happen to wake up, we'd do day long movie marathons, a lot of baking, and sleepovers wah hoo
aw thats so cool to spend time wiht him. Do tonz of fun things he likes....maybe playing in the snow (isn't it snowing??) take him ice skating....keep him active. i know thats what my parents did when i was younger.
Well, it's been flurrying off and on the past few days. We're supposed to get a "Snowstorm" on Wednesday (meaning a little more than a flurry, and MAYBE it will stick to the ground), so maybe if we get a lot, we'll play outside. I know I jsut added rollerskating to the list, but I'll add ice skating as well. SO much fun!!!! :)
Saw "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events," this afternoon. It was a pretty decent movie. Tyler loved it. No magic or anything of that kind, pretty innocent as far as that goes. Jim Carrey's character....he'd scare me in real life, I think. A different kind of movie, but pretty cool nonetheless.
Overall, a good thing to do with your kid on a cold afternoon.
get him into reading. like i remember my mom always took us to the libraury at the beginning of break and we'd get a million books. (really like 11) and i just remember snuggled up on my couch and my mom would bring me hot choclate and all my sisters and stuff would all be reading. its such a good habit and learning it when younger helped me so much. reading is fun!!
Hahah, that's so funny you said that, because we just got back from getting him his own library card and a bunch of books. He's all excited.
my mom always said she never heard her house so quiet as the hours right after we returned from the libraury. and it is quite a feat to get all to be quiet
Study, service, shop, relax, and catch up with my friends.
do you want a Kit Kat bar? No what if you guys build a snowman if it snows.
