I feel extremely saddened and sickened by the tsunami disaster. I feel so helpless. I really wish there was something I could do...

I keep torturing myself and looking at the video and the photos and my heart aches for those people. Almost 60,000 dead?!?!?!?! Millions without homes?!?! aw man. Crazy.

ummmm is there a charity or relief fund that is "ok" to contribute to, or something... where can I send money to help the people affected by this disaster. I remember when we had Hurricane Andrew there was an announcment made about where we could send money/supplies to help our brothers and sisters affected (I think.. right? i duno i was 12). I'm hoping something like that will be anounced this week because I really really want to do something and I don't really want to donate to a worldly relief fund of which who knows how much will actually go to someone in need.

I don't have millions to give but if I did I would.

If anyone knows anything please PLEEEEZ let me know

I just got an e-mail from a friend in my last hall who knows a sister that called Bethel (it's legit; my friend made sure her friend called firsthand). They only have reports on our brothers from 3 of the 11 countries affected so far, but they have had no deaths reported, only injuries. Also, the brothers at Bethel said that the best way to contribute is to the Worldwide Work, which is the fund that disaster relief comes from.

It's my understanding that most charities/disaster funds have some ties to religion. It's probably best to stay within the organization to avoid any conscience problems later.

we had a report at our meeting last night: the top 4 countries reporting that were most affected were--myanmar, indonesia, sri lanka and thailand. at least two bros that were vacationing were washed out to sea. some familes of bros were as well. there was one fatality. =( an elderly sister couldn't get out of her home in time. homes and kingdom halls were most likely damaged, but the branches haven't released any conclusive reports. and to end on a high note--there were some bros from sweeden vacationing over there. their hotel was on the beach. they had decided to go to a local meeting. while they were there, the tsunami obliterated their hotel. they were kept safe at the kingdom hall. =)

i know, it sucks feeling so helpless. I'm sure we will here about it once something is set up. we are on a disaster relief committee. i wouldn't mind going if they called us, but i doubt it.

I like this idea...I hope we hear something soon, it's too many to not have also affected our brothers and sisters.
