My Off-Roading Adventure
So I'm rushing to the meeting last night, we have our CO visit. I'm about 40 minutes from the hall but I'm doing pretty good on time and am going to be about 20 minutes early. Just as I start my car and am about to leave I realize that I left the CD I burned of the weekly bible reading in the kitchen. I take my car out of reverse and it in neutral and run in to get the CD. I run back out the door about 20 seconds later and see that my car is gone... disapeared.
I look to the left and see that it had rolled off my driveway, down my lawn, and into the woods into mud. Long story short, the car missed a tree by about 1 foot and hit a bunch of pricker bushes, an old rusty wire fence stopped it from hitting other trees. I missed my meeting, but triple AAA towed me out and my car is fine with only a few scratches on the bumper. Could have been a lot worse, but annoying that it happened at all! That's what I get for rushing.

HOLY MOLY. Fort-u-nate
This happened once to me when I was about 14, my dad went into Wawa and for some reason the jeep we had would jump out of gear, so I started rolling backwards and I dove over the center console to hit the brakes with my hand.
It's very hard to get from that position to sitting into the driver's seat
Please dont tell me that driveway of your house is VISIBLY a hill
nah, the driveway is pretty flat, but i guess it was enough of an incline to get it moving and once it hit the lawn, the lawn is a hill
wow, funny story. you're very lucky. do you have a mazda?
yeah 2005 mazda 3
uh dude he was fortunate
uh dude same thing.
anyway, i think there's a difference between believing in luck, and being lucky that your car wasn't wrecked.
lucky: occurring by chance; fortuitous.
it has to do with chance. if chances are good that something awful will happen when your car rolls down a hill, yet, nothing does, how do you describe that? "oh, that's good that against all odds your car came out with only a scratch." might as well just shorten it to lucky. because, that's what the word means in this context. this is a lot different than believing in the luck of numbers or superstitious charms, and putting your faith in luck.
so, that's my rant of the morning, and it's just my opinion. :)
well put ian!!
Like Gina said, well put.
you don't have to say "well put" right after she just said it.
and you don't have to post on my website.

thank you so much for that explanation ian... i was not about to get into the whole "lucky vs. fortunate" thing.
ok fine you believe in luck BUT I THINK LUCK IS CRAP and so is punk music, i mean, i heard about luck one time from someone else and i thought "this is horrible and offends Christians" and it turns out i was right

Matt, your fortunate that the bumper didnt get damaged... it's $225 to replace the bumper cover and that doesn't include paint or anything else they have to do for it...
most of those scratches will buff right out
