Too long to be a musing

web-toedchloe by web-toedchloe · Oct 9, 2006 · 355 views · Journal

So there was this going away party for a couple in our hall friday night. I said I'd bring a chicken dish. So I decided to make chicken with 40 cloves of garlic, a la barefoot contessa. The party started at 6, I thought I'd be home by around 5:15 and have the chicken done by 6 or 6:15, then drive the 10 minutes to the party and arrive around 6:30, not late by any means.

Well, an attorney here was meeting with a client, and at about 4:45, she said she needed my help working with him. Long story short, he ended up in my cube printing out online checks until about 5:15.

So I got home around 5:30 and started cooking. At this point, I'm so annoyed that I had to deal with the last minute client problem, that I just want to slip into a nice warm bath and stay home all night. But we really do like the couple leaving, and decide to tough it out.

The recipe was a little more involved than I thought, so it wasn't done until about 7, making us arrive at the party around 7:15.

We walk in, huge pot in hands, and the first thing this snotty little girl says to us is: "You're late!" I rolled my eyes and plopped my pot down onto the buffet table, thinking none of the brothers or sisters would be so thoughtless as that 9 year old girl.

But the first sister that walks up to me says, "You're late! Everyone's already finished eating!" Now I'm fuming. I took the time to make something for this stupid party, and the sister that hosted didn't even have the decency to say thank you. I didn't respond to her, and she walked away.

Donovan and I took a couple pieces of our carefully prepared chicken, sat down and enjoyed. I spent the rest of the party trying to avoid my in-laws, who found Donovan and I even though we were outside talking to someone else. Then I thought everything would be better with cake. The cake looked fantastic. However, the frosting wasn't really frosting. It was some kind of colored marshmallow fluff mixture with hardened marzipan flowers; a terrible trick on the part of the baker.

So we stopped at the liquor store on the way home and got some good wine. That made the evening good.

This was definitely too long to be a musing.

your statement made me laugh because that's an absurd way to go through life, staying home because some people are thoughtless.

Shut up you, stop being wise and reasonable beyond all our years =P

thatdarngirl #1.1.1.2 thatdarngirlOG 2002

It's not that people are thoughtless it's more like I just don't care to be around most people sometimes.

forrestina #1.1.2 forrestinaOG 2002

and i'm sure your friends coming to visit you and falling asleep on your couch like narcoleptics only strengthen your determination to remain this way. :D

Good synopsis - except I didn't mention the "do not disturb" part! :P

Where were you headed in PA? I thought we were the only cool people in this state.

fivezero #2.1.1 fivezeroOG 2003

"Do not Disturb." heyyy, you're not foolin' anyone

And believe it or not, lol-- There's actually some cool folks out in Saylorsburg/Stroudsburg area. I found them. They think I'm from the future.

Wow, it's mullet country up there.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

I know. It's super rural. A guy I know is actually a soy bean farmer. It's crazy.

Does he wear overalls and flannel?

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

Never seen him out on the combine, but I'd imagine he's got some nice overall and flannel ensembles.

socalgal #4 socalgalOG 2003

did you call to let them know you were going to be late?

web-toedchloe #4.1 web-toedchloeOG 2001

I didn't have anyone's cell number.

socalgal #4.1.1 socalgalOG 2003

oh. i just thought maybe they were annoyed since you didnt call and inform them you were going to be late. either way, they should be sympathetic as it was a friday...as well as anything else may have happened along the way.

web-toedchloe #4.1.1.1 web-toedchloeOG 2001

I could see if it was my friends that were throwing the party, but it was just some of the sisters whom I really don't talk to that often, ya know? It didn't occur to me that I should call; it's not like the whole thing hinged on me, or that it was a surprise. But I hear what you're saying.

englandkid #4.2 englandkidOG 2003

do people EVER show up on time?? I plan for a half hour before i actually want people to show up that way no one is late. I tell people seven and then they show up at 7 30 which is when i wanted them to come. So the way i see it, you were only 15 minutes late. That's not even fashionably late. Some people are too sensitive

hunkpapap #4.2.1 hunkpapapOG 2003

what happens when they show up to your house hours late then leave to have dinner without you? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

englandkid #4.2.1.1 englandkidOG 2003

im sorry. i should have called...

People just suck... If I had to do it all over again, I'd be a hermit in the woods of Montana, living off the land. Hahaha... Well, not really. But it explains why I like to keep to myself.
