Crazy Summer - long and sappy

mandie by mandie · Sep 12, 2007 · 288 views · Journal

So how was everyone's summer? Mine was so crazy you don't even know.

Starting off, when I got back from Taiwan I decided to make steps to pioneer. So, after alot of prayer, I quit my job and found a part time job. The day after I turned in my regular auxillary pioneer slip, I had another job offer...but it was full time but alot more money, i mean alot. So me and Garrett talked about it, prayed alot about it, and I decided to turn it down. Some thought I was crazy, but I wanted to go out in service more.

So things were going well, and then all of the sudden, Garrett started having problems with his heart. He ended up in the hospital twice for about 2 weeks. The first time he was in the hospital, they didn't really know what was going on, they couldn't figure out why a 27 year old would have symptoms of a heart attack and why he would have so much fluid around his heart..

On Garrett's first day back at work, he was coming hom and his tire blew and needed replaced. we were starting to get in a crunch, and i thought i was going to have to get another job and stop regular auxillary pioneering..but first we prayed about it...and you know like 20 min later, a brother called us to see how we were, and Garrett told him what happened and the brother's like, oh you know what, go to NTB and they owe me a favor, so I will cash in that favor for you. Get whatever tires you want, i do alot of work for them. So we both start tearing up and told him that we just got done praying about what to do about money. So after the 3 of us got a little emotional we went and got new tires.

So about a week passed and Garrett started feeling real bad again. He would sweat so much, he would be soaked, he lost feeling in his arm, he passed out and his heart rate was back up to 150 at rest. So he went to his dr and the dr sent him right back to the ER. We didn't like how things were going, so with help of that same brother and the liason(sp??) committee, and a day of arguing with those crappy drs in youngstown, we got him transferred to Pittsburgh. He was there for about a week as well. They really took care of him and told him that the hospital in Youngstown didn't do him any favors. The liason committee had internal med, cardiologist and several other specialists already waiting for him when he got there...it was amazing. So later when he saw the cardiologist, he told Garrett that a day after Garrett left the hospital, he had a 31 yr old male with the exact same problems. But he let it go to long and he is now on the list for a heart transplant. So if it wasn't for the brothers helping getting him transferred, he could have very well been on the list for a heart transplant!

It is just amazing how Jehovah took care of us. The support from the Congregation and everything was absolutely amazing. After all this, I decided i have to turn in my regular pioneer application. After everyting Jehovah has done for us, it is the least that I can do for him and plus, everyone needs to know about Jehovah and the blessings that come with serving him.

So...I turned it in! And get this, my boss is giving me crap now about having to work more and blah blah. This was the day after I turned in my app. Just by reading this, you can see how Satan tries to maneuver things to keep you back from doing things...but if you really do rely on Jehovah, the blessings are so amazing. So once again, i'm putting it in Jehovah's hands and he will take care of me.

So after reading this you think wow, mandie had a crappy summer..but now that i look back, it was a good summer..it sucked seeing my husband in the hospital and sick..but in the end, it made us so strong, and that is worth everything.

Wow, Mandie! Thanks for this. Very encouraging. So glad to hear you're pioneering!

How is Garret doing? Do they know what is wrong with him?

that was the best journal i've read in a while! isn't it great how Jehovah maneuvers events sometimes? i experienced something similar this summer - i'll have to write about it sometime.

That was so encouraging! It made me tear up a little! I've been looking for a part time job too and I can see where Jehovah is helping me, but its sooo encouraging when you see other people being helped by Jehovah too! May Jehovah bless your efforts even more!

mandie #6 mandieOG 2001

I was hoping that it would encourage some. Sometimes its nice hearing others stories so you know that your not the only one going through something...so email me your stories! i love to hear them!

Garrett is doing better. He still has to take it easy and no hard work, no public speaking or funerals, anything that gets his heart rate up. Matter of fact, we had my nieces this past weekend and he was playing with the one outside, and he was completely drenched from sweat and then down the next day. So he still has to take it easy...But so far so good. The fluid in his heart is down and his EKG is starting to go back to normal. So crazy! They think that it was a virus that just started attacking his heart and his body put that fluid around his heart so it wouldn't attack the heart tissue..but it started to have too much fluid and his heart couldn't beat...scary stuff...But he will be ok! a few more tests to rule out some rhuematoid factors and eekk, leukemia, after that they will know for sure...but so far he has tested no for leukemia..shoooeeewee!

But thanks guys for asking about him!

mandie #7.1 mandieOG 2001

where at in Taiwan do they live? i stayed mostly in Taichung.

socalgal #7.1.1 socalgalOG 2003

do you think maybe your hubby caught the virus in taiwan? did the drs rule that out?

mandie #7.1.1.1 mandieOG 2001

Oh yeah, the drs in Pittsburgh esp had us talk them through like each day we were there and they said because it has been several months since we got back, they highly doubt it was from Taiwan.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

oh ok. good.

Where they live, I haven't a clue LOL, the are a family of 4 been in Taiwan from Canada been there for quite a while. I picked them up from the airport one day.. and on the way i got a call, I answered 'Nee How', ended up that the person that called knew them from Taiwan! It is a very small world.

This is AMAZING and NOT AT ALL A CRAPPY SUMMER. I hope for the health related issues the worst is behind you.

I am so happy for you. You actually have the same goals in the same order that I've been working towards accomplishing them :D

This couldn't have come at a better time! Best wishes to you and Garrett as you continue to pursue a career in full time service!

thanks for sharing this!!

it's like if one thing doesn't tempt you, satan will always try another. He will never forgive us for choosing Jehovah over him - so he will keep trying.

be strong :)

i'm going to share your story with my girlfriend tonight, when I talk to her. I'm so glad you're doing so well--seeing Jehovah active in your own life. He truly does love each and every one of us. Thank you for your journal. You should think about writing your experience to the branch office.

superhero #12.1 superheroOG 2004

a friend and i were discussing how the standard for making the yearbook is incredibly high these days - if she has to walk 15+ miles to the meetings, she could be a candidate :)
