The Best Day...
I think yesterday was one of the best days I've had in more than a long time. I had planned to go into work early, get in a little extra time on my day off, but as my alarm sounded at 6:03 am, I decided to snuggle with my teddy bear for another couple hours. I got out of bed around 9, completely refreshed and ready for my day. The sun was shining, and I was ready! I ran some errands; bank, dry-cleaners, drugstore, bookstore, etc. Of the things I bought, a map of Union, Hudson & Essex county, as I was recently accepted to NJIT in Newark, and I thought I should know where I was going. I joined a gym (Yes, those of you that thought I was nothing more than an atrophied couch potato were obviously mistaken), and was off to school to make a deposit tuition payment. I also had scheduled time to speak with a financial aid advisor, as the acceptance package I'd recieved said I needed to have all financial aid forms in by March 15, and I wasn't accepted until mid-April. I was prepared for some degree of confrontation about this. After driving the wrong way into Newark for about 20 minutes, I used the aforementioned map, and found the campus. After circling the campus for about 10 minutes trying to find some kind of parking, I sweet-talked the parking guard to let me park in the garage. Once inside, I called the bursar's office from my car to confirm that they were the ones I should make that payment with, so I wasn't wandering around campus aimlessly. The conversation went like this: "Hello Bursar's office." "Yes, I need to make an initial deposit payment, can I do that with you?" "No." "Oh. Who should I do it with." "The bursar." "Isn't this the bursar?" "Yes." I took a moment to collect myself, then the woman continued to explain that she thought I was trying to make payment by credit card over the phone. I chuckled and let it slide. I paid my bill, and next to the bursar was the office of financial aid and student affairs. I walked over to the window, as mentioned, ready for a spitting match. I calmly explained the situation to the nice lady behind the window, and she pulled up my file on the computer. "Wow," she calmly said. "You've been awarded $8,000 in scholarships. Do you still want a loan?" We discussed it, and I decided to get a loan anyway for at least $1,000 for books, etc. (Note: tuition for the year is about $7,100, and minus the room grant which the university will take away, I'll be getting $7,500, leaving $1,400 with the loan for books and other expenses...maybe a computer.) Ecstatic as I left, I called my boyfriend and told him the good news, then I headed out to his house in PA. It was a beautiful day, and as I drove down 78, I could smell the trees and flowers budding as I rocked to Saves the Day. I chilled with my boyfriend, watched the Simpsons, then we had some Chinese and went to his bookstudy, where I was given far too much attention from all the older sisters. I had a great time, though. Then we went to his brother and sister-in-law's house, and practiced swing dancing for a wedding we're going to tomorrow night. He dropped me once, but that's okay, I couldn't stop laughing. Then we went back to his house and he painted my toenails. How great is that? I drove home with a smile - what a perfect day.
