This really kills me...

highschool by highschool · Oct 21, 2002 · 345 views · · · Journal

How some people remember what every movie was rated to mention to someone "i don't know about that movie it was rated R"... or how they remember that there is a "bad word" in a song that came out 10 years ago, and the lyrics are bad, and they have to announce to the world, "i don't listen to that, it's a bad song" ... hahha... it just kills me, the self-righteousness these days... and imposing YOUR conscience on other people... but anyways, that's it. It just makes me laugh, and throw up, and laugh some more..

i think it's right to say something when it's a clear matter of right and wrong such as smoking, celebrating a holiday.. haha.. stuff like that, but if it's a conscience matter you really have no right to make someone feel as if they're doing something wrong, just because you don't like it.

ekulu ekuluOG 2002 ·

well a lot of people do things that definitely go against bible principles and then they excuse it as a conscience matter. It's not always self righteousness. Sometimes it's just righteousness.

I'm sorry if I offended you princess. I didn't realize you were so sensitive. And when I said that IIIII didn't know about the movie Double Jeopardy because it was rated R (I'm thinking that's what you're referring to since I JUST said it this morning), I didn't say, "and I don't think anyone else should have seen it either". It really kills ME that you have only negative things to say about things that other people mention. Here's an idea...if you don't like something, then keep it to yourself, and don't bother reading anything that people post, because just by your saying it, isn't going to stop it.

yea me too.. highschool, why do you whine about everything, just chill, if you dont like things that people say, just dont come here anymore...

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002 ·

weeellll..it IS a journal. So she can really say whatever she wants, vent feelings on things. Just cause the rest of us use it to tell stories and the like, or just silly stuff, doesn't mean she has too.

R
rocksupastarFounder ·

yes, but how about use that handy dandy PRIVATE option on the journals page, that way we dont have to see it....

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002 ·

how are we supposed to have this healthy conversation about it if it's private?

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

its funny- if you publicly watch a rated r movie you cant have privledges in the congregation. if you curse-- you also cant have privledges in the congregation-- talk about PUSHING SOMEONES CONSCIENCE-- i mean really.

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002 ·

i don't know that it's 'pushing someone's conscience'... you can curse or watch r-rated movies if you want. just don't expect to be set up as an example to everyone else...

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

lol and i mean REALLY WHO wants to be an example?!

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002 ·

i guess not you ;)

deanh77 deanh77Founder ·

hmm, I don't know about that, cause I know for sure of one elder who curses on quickbuilds. soo......

reaf reafOG 2002 ·

ha ha, theres a couple

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

does that make it right?

magnum magnumOG 2001 ·

no we should burn them at the stake and make them cry kumbayah all night long!

deanh77 deanh77Founder ·

No. I was merely pointing out the fallacy of your statement, "if you curse-- you also cant have privledges". Isn't being an elder a privilege?

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder ·

haha, never... NEVER get into a battle of wits with deanbag. he'll make you cry every time.

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

yes- but the truth is, they actually SHOULDNT have those privledges, or be an example. There are MANY other examples of people who have lost their privledges b.c of cursing... on a regular basis. anyway, if you are "faithful in the least you will be faithful in much".

deanh77 deanh77Founder ·

mmm, you're missing the point and making it look like I think cursing is ok. which I don't. I also don't think blanket statements are cool. The end.

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001 ·

nah, i didnt mean to, im just sayin just cuz an elder does and still has his privledges doesnt mean its right, that actually should be delt w/ ya know? im not saying that YOU think its okay, i know you, and i know that you dont.... im just saying.....wait... what am i saying... idont remember. oh well.

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002 ·

lol ...a blonde moment ;)

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002 ·

good point, teen...and for dean: if you are 'faithful' you would address this issue with the elder.

malibu malibuOG 2001 ·

i agree. i know some elders and MS who talk about these good movies out in service but they're all R. its kinda weird but if they think it okay. but there is a site that gives you the low-down on why a movie may be rated R and some times it is for really stupid stuff.

R
rocksupastarFounder ·

well then they are not a very good example, now are they?

You definatly make Ezabel Interesting!. .And on the verge of caios!!!! IT'S GREAT :)

What is actually kinda funny is this journal smashes self righteousness but for someone to write a journal like this they would have to be somewhat self righteous themselves.

reaf reafOG 2002 ·

I love how you cause controversy

boredatwork boredatworkOG 2002 ·

A CO once talked to me about this. He said "Isn't it funny how people say that you can watch any movie you want as long as your conscience doesn't bother. Yet, if you ask someone their opinion on a movie they'll say: "It was great except for one scene where.." So what is it that stands out in your memory? The bad scene."

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002 ·

darn that conscience checklist playback

reaf reafOG 2002 ·

haha.. stef is hawaii bound>

delliott101 delliott101OG 2002 ·

Yeah, there have been so many talks about R-rated movies, certain forms of music and whatnot that it's just weird that anyone would reason that it's a conscience thing.

EXAMPLE: This is not to judge or condemn anyone but a couple of years ago we had a talk from a CO about entertainment. He mentioned rap and alternative music and mentioned specific groups... he talked about not only R-rated movies being inapproprate but also we need to be discerning about movies that carry other ratings that deal with supernatural themes... a suggestion from the organization (the slave class) is really not a suggestion.. it's more of a "do not do this" sort of thing...

I guess I'm naive in thinking that everyone views counsel the same way... some think it's okay if it doesn't bother your conscience, but then there may be something wrong with that person's conscience...

reaf reafOG 2002 ·

Excellant Point!

iwz iwz ·

good points. here's a counterpoint, for the sake of debate.

mentioning specifics usually denotes an opinion. it is important to make up your own mind about what things bother your conscience. if you notice the same material bothing someone else's conscience (or are given counsel on specifics), then maybe you need to do some studying, and take another look at the material that doesn't bother you. through study and meditation, you will be able to form your own opinion about it, and may decide that your conscience is not weak (or the opposite in many cases, of course).

people come from all sorts of backgrounds, and many are sensitive to certain things in a higher degree than others.

in the end, what you do in your own time is between you and Jehovah. what you do (or speak of) publicly, is not. it becomes a public matter, and you're exposed to stumbling someone; which, even though the actual things you've done privately may not have been sinful in Jehovah's eyes, is wrong.

iwz iwz ·

haha, of course, this is just my opinion. ;)

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002 ·

All things are lawful...but not all things are advantageous.

iwz iwz ·

very true.

delliott101 delliott101OG 2002 ·

Excellent points, Ian... since you had the same CO at the time, I assume you recall the part...

I was thinking something very similar when I typed that out, as far as personal opinion on the part of the CO. But then a few years later, a different CO referred back to that part (it was our last CO, actually, who did the referring back, but didn't do the original part) and made mention that when we hear of specific performers that we shouldn't be listening to or watching certain movies, what is our attitude?

You are so correct... in the end it's between us and Jehovah... this may sound ironic from me, but I'm not the one who created a journal about this... time to remember that there is a case of universal sovreignty out there being determined... this is kind of piddly in comparrison...

man, highschool is like our own person little eminem that stirs up fun stuff in ezabel. and that is one of the reasons i find him so entertaining. the same is to be said for u!
