Talk 4

skaorsk8 by skaorsk8 · Oct 31, 2002 · 117 views · Journal

I don't know how many of you know this, but I'm pretty sick right now...I have some serious allergies, in that I'm pretty much allergic to everything under the sun (I eat mostly protien shakes and soymilk) and I get really sick when the leaves fall from the trees until everything freezes.

So I've been feeling really bad all week, I didn't go to the bookstudy on Tuesday but my dad came home and told me I had a talk this week. I was pretty sure I didn't, so I emailed my school overseer, who emailed me back and said I had the number 4 but it was easy.

Well, it wasn't. The theme was "What Will God's Kingdom do to Man's Governments? I stared looking at all the material, but it was only two scriptures- Daniel 2:44 and Psalms 2:8.9. I couldn't even figure out anything. My dad wasn't much help. I had no angle.

At 6:30 tonight, I finally found something. An article on what I needed! I pieced together the following. When I was about to leave to give the talk, I realized my parents used all the ink in the printer. I tried to fax it to myself, but that didn't work either. So I had to write it all out by hand. I was extremely stressed by this point, and still feeling like crap. Anyway, here's the talk.

Many years ago, a man named José was in prison. He was a terrorist and had been arrested while making preparations to blow up a police barracks. He thought that only violence would force the government to improve the conditions in his country. While he was in prison, Jehovah’s Witnesses began to study the Bible with his wife.

Today, José and his wife are Christian ministers. They direct others to Jehovah’s Kingdom as the solution to problems that José formerly tried to solve with homemade bombs. José even recently visited the barracks he had been planning to destroy. Why? In order to speak to the families there about God’s Kingdom.

When we are out in field service, we talk to people about God’s Kingdom that will solve mankind’s problems. Often, we meet people who know they pray for a kingdom in the Our Father prayer, but don’t know what they are praying about. But what exactly will God’s Kingdom do? And how will that effect the other governments of the world? And how will that change people’s lives?

The bible tells us that God’s kingdom will bring about peace onto the Earth in a way that no other government ever has before. What makes it different? It’s because it’s a government made, not by man, but by God, and it will last forever. Daniel chapter 2 verse 44 gives us more details, so let’s read that.

And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite.

But, you may say, is that not unjust of Jehovah to destroy all governments? True, some nations claim to observe religious principles. Still, in practice they ignore the fact that Jehovah is the Universal Sovereign and that he has enthroned Jesus as heavenly King with authority over the earth. How do they treat God’s right to rule? Let’s ready Psalms 2:2 and 3.

Yes, the governments accept no divine “bands” or “cords” that would limit their exercise of national sovereignty. So what power does Jehovah give to Jesus? Verses 8 and 9 tell us.

We see here how God’s Kingdom will destroy those other national governments. It will be a complete destruction, and the reasons for this are clear. The nations have not shown any interest in submitting to God as ruler, and will suffer because of it.

At the end of the meeting, a sister who I really can't stand came up to me and said "since we're friends, I can tell you...I expected better of you with that talk." I just nodded and walked away...I don't have time for hearing that. It got me pretty upset though.

I thought that talk was really good, esp w/ so few scriptures to work on. Your cheesecake factory experience was really great too. who knows, maybe one day at the convention you'll here an experience from a person who was given a beeper at the cheesecake factory...

I agree... the friends don't know what you went through... none of us knows what the others in the congregation go through just to be at the meeting! Just by you being there AND giving your talk must have helped Jehovah make a reply to Satan!
