I got a new job...wow. I can't remember what it's like to actually do work, make appointments, etc.
But what I really wanted was some advice...or pose a question. How does everyone else get out of going out to eat/drink with all the people at work? Especially since it's holiday season and people dont' know me, I've been invited out to lunch 4 times since yesterday, and I'm told everyone goes out drinking together on Fridays. (At Friday's, ironically.) I don't want to be known as the office loser/moron/rude person, but I'd rahter not spend any more time with these people than necessary (esp. when there is alcohol and such).
So what does everyone else do?

i cant believe how long ago that was, well not really but still it was like 3 or 4 years at least now... and hes married and with a house now.

mmm... when I worked at my last job, we used to have parties(non-holiday) on company time. it was great, drink some margaritas, eat some chicken wings, bring a beer back to your cubicle, then leave (after allowing 1 hour for each drink consumed of course).
But at my new job, they have parties after work on Thursdays. It makes it a lot easier to tell them that I honestly have something to do Thursday nights and I can't go out.
As far as going out for lunch.. I don't see a problem with that, especially at first, people are trying to get to know you and all. I'm not an extremely outgoing person, so maybe its just easier for me to limit my association. I take most of my lunches by myself now.
whenever there's a company lunch , i go... not all the time. but i do. just go our for lunch... have a free meal. come back to work. i see no problem in that. but usually i go home during lunch and take a nap.
being the kinda gal i am - i go yeah sure lets PAAAAAAAARTAY, get all the men to buy me drinks - get horrendously drunk and then pass out - altenatively i just politely decline.
