Gold?

katiedid by katiedid · Feb 2, 2003 · 295 views · · · Journal

So, I thought I was doing well getting a platinum engagement ring, but then I hear people complaining that it scratches and isnt as nice after a while. I still LOVE my ring, but I'm trying to pick out a wedding band, and now I'm having some problems deciding which metal to choose.

I've heard that since gold is so much softer, a ring will wear down and get really thin. Also, I know that white gold wears off after a while since it's only plated with rhodium (sp?)

Anyone have any suggestions?

I suggest you stay with the platinum. Im haven the same problem. I just found the band I want at tiffanys yesterday,, its platinum w/bagetts.(my engagemnet band is platinum also) although it is a softer metal and scratches easier, you can tell the difference in the 2 (white gold / platinum) when they are together.. well i can anyway. I definatly suggest staying with the platinum!

showy display of one's means of living. (close enough)

I hate when girls do that-it is almost obscene. And I almost had a heartattack when some of my friends bought bags for $200. They were like well it's Coach. Big stinking deal it better be plated in gold for that amt of $$. I don't think all my bags ever equalled $200.

what do guys think about these new bags with one giant letter on the face?

deanh77 deanh77Founder ·

I think if a guy even notices details on women's handbags, then he is a gay.

reaf reafOG 2002 ·

haha

ok4now ok4nowOG 2002 ·

and you would be wrong

beachbum beachbumOG 2002 ·

are you saying you look at women's handbags...and like them?!

ok4now ok4nowOG 2002 ·

the question was whether i notice details on handbags...and YES, i watched a show about new handbag fashion for spring...and YES, i noticed when some stars wore those bags for the golden globes...and NO, i'm not ghey :p

beachbum beachbumOG 2002 · ok4now

your statement says otherwise. :) i don't even notice that crap and i AM a girl. Why the heck would you. And plus, i can't believe you admitted that.

deanh77 deanh77Founder · ok4now

wow. the plot thickens. you WATCHED A SHOW ON HANDBAGS?!?!!??

ok4now ok4nowOG 2002 · deanh77

ahhhh, the key is to know how they show the handbags... ;)

let's just say, they're not just sittin on a shelf

umm, i duno, sometimes there will be a bag i really like, and ill buy it even if its like 100.00 , but thats like HARDLEY EVER, i have to really think its worth it! id be afraid to walk around with a bag more then 100.00 cause with the way i loose stuff id have to chain it to me!

the only thing of mine clothes-wise that ever cost much money was a $300 silk dress from Sakks my mom bought as a MAJOR splurge (AND it was VERY on sale)... guess it depends on your budget. i just usually wait for things to go on sale and i'm not on the cutting edge of fashion, but i live with it.

My older sister used to work at Betsey Johnson. They were all little poor girls but pretended they were rich and played dress up in the clothing

i'd talk to a reliable jeweler. i've had my gold ring for seven years. sure it's worn down a bit...but that's not the point. it's the sentimental value that's important to me.

katiedid katiedidFounder ·

that's what I'm saying - I dont want to have to replace it if it wears so thin, it breaks.

ok4now ok4nowOG 2002 ·

wears so thin, it breaks??? i've never heard someone's wedding band breaking...especially on guys who may work with their hands all their life. keep in mind that getting a 14k ring vs. 18k will make it stronger, because the more gold, the softer the metal.

reaf reafOG 2002 ·

Ive talked to atleast 5 reliable Jewlers and ALL recommended to stay with the same metal as your engagement ring!

I think I will. Thanks! :)

ok4now ok4nowOG 2002 ·

katiedid katiedidFounder ·
