A job is for christmas not for life
There was once a time when you could work for a company your entire life, working your way up the ladder until you went as high as you could and then you retired. You'd work Monday to Friday, be paid enough to live on and take a holiday once a year. Your job was secure and therefore your life was secure.
Now, however, it seems that a job is no longer for life, but just for a week, or a month or one year. You never get paid enough to enjoy all the things you want and the majority of places want you to work crazy hours with no more than 2 weeks holiday at a time. Then just when you get settled, they fire you or make you redundant.
This is pretty much happened to me yesterday. Im quietly minding my own business at my desk, doing my job (which I have been for a mere 7 weeks), when the boss walks in and tells me that they are, as of monday, pulling the plug on the section of the company I work for and therefore my position is now redundant. They have offered me a job in the larger section of the company, but I am neither interested in or qualified for the job they want me to do.
Im now left with bills to pay and no real idea whether I should stick out the awful job and be miserable, or quit and look for a new job, in the meantime being broke. Baring in mind Im going away for a week in 5 weeks and I have friends visiting in 8 weeks, both of which I will no doubt need funds for. Advice anyone?

Chickie, I'd take the risk and go for the position. You are probably underestimating yourself anyway. I know you could do it! =0)
they offered you a job and you turned it down.... ok....
I didnt turn it down yet. But it's not the job I signed up for and it's not one I really want to do, my position no longer exists. So I dont know whether to carry on in the alternative job and be miserable or quit and be broke...I spose if I stay i might get to stay online.
Tnx Frest btw. Always welcome a vote of confidence.
of course! you know you rock!!
Go for the job and look in the meantime in wont be that bad!
stick w/ the new position for now and look for a new job in the meantime. at least you will have income AND hope that you will get out of there to go to something better
i think that's the best idea yet.
indeed I think I agree...
i have an idea. why not use this opportunity to re-negotiate your contract? say that you need to work in america, preferrably in manhattan. yes. (on an annoying note, are you invited to samantha's wedding)
yay! and we get an apartment and i give you all the double stuff you want.
double stuff?? what's that about....
they dont have them there and i have a hookup at nabisco
I SOOO Wanna do that! But seriously the only way Im gonna be allowed in your country is if I marry a citizen or live with a family and be an Au Pair...and English Au Pair's dont go down too well there now huh? Louise Woodward actually lives about 15 minutes from me.
well you can always marry me... but you'd have to repay me for getting you into this country, by cooking and cleaning for me.all the time.
thanx Ty. I'll remember your kind offer. But Im gonna take my chances for now ;)
hahhah she shot you down hardcore style, buddy!!
wow, that reminds me of this one old brother i used to know who ALWAYS told me i should go to a poor country and marry a girl there. He was like they have dirt floors, she'll be happy with whatever you give her. I never thought it was right, instead i'll find a girl and be so happy with her i'll end up volunteering to cook and clean...
you know you write exactly how you talk. just like carl. do i do it too? i am wondering.
DUDE, totally. We all do...
hmm. news to me. hey i gotta call that girl from PA that was in lynn's phone (NO NOT THAT ONE JAHANNA AND CERRATO!)
does this mean im gonna hear another 3 hours about PA girls...let's not relive that aspect of that lonnnng car ride.
hahhaha you know what cerrato FREAKED OUT on me after you left. and you know what, with good reason.
i bet he did. he was so pissed!
he should have liked that girl. she bought him some nice new clothes.
haha we should stop talking about him.
I don't know what HE was thinking... my ex is from a place like that and it didn't work like that with her!
I am invited to Samanthas wedding yes. Well I was there at her house when they announced their engagement and stuff, Ive not been formally invited. Funnily we've become quite good friends lately. She's gonna make Katie wear a PINK dress.
