It Was 20 Years Ago...
How far we've come...
I was cleaning my place a little this afternoon, listening to a record! "The
Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl" was on my record player and I was thinking how far
things have come in just 20 years.
20 years ago, compact discs were introduced. Video game systems were the Atari
2600 and 5200, Intellivision and Colecovision. Nintendo and Sega were known for coin-op games. Computers? The Atari 800XL,
Commodore 64 and a few others (load programs from cassette tapes... 1/2 hour load times if
they took!). VHS and Beta VCRs competed and video laser discs were new. And
this was just technology!
Music: The Human League's "Don't You Want Me?" was THE song... Duran
Duran, The Go-Go's, Eurythmics and Culture Club were all new bands!!! Also, a new music
form was stirring up radio airwaves... rap. Heavy metal "hair bands" were
ultra popular and making a name for themselves
Movies... Star Trek II left us wondering if Spock was really dead, rumors that Sean
Connery would be back as James Bond, The Empire Strikes Back left us with questions that
would be answered in Return of the Jedi...
In September of 1982, I was a senior in high school (Parsippany Hills High), got my
driver's licence on the 30th of that month, had a select few friends, and I think were had
not been studying with the Witnesses anymore. It would have been another 4 years
before I would start studying again...
Today.... wow... who would have thought life, entertainment and technology would have
come this far...

Here's a shocking fact: When you graduated high school, I wasnt' even born yet. You're really old, David. ;)
haha
I love you too, Di!
i have no idea what youre talking about...im onl 18. My goodness, youre older than the hills.
i was born march 26, 1982
pot o gold last episode, first movie film, popeye monument unveiled, woodstock documentary appears (1970) and won best oscar, all happened on March 26. also the first successful heart transplant happened in 1982.

I was born November 25,1982 and the world was never the same since
Eep you're old. Oh wait..forgot im not supposed to insult you. But being old isn't an insult..so..yeah you're old. Actually, not really, I suppose I'm just young.
My head is spinning.... MY problem is that I don't FEEL old... I guess I'm just more experienced...
you're not old your just mature...
Ha!!!! ME??? MATURE???? Don't let it get around, you'll ruin my rep!
I wasn't calling you old Dave! That would be very rude of me, I was calling Dan old.
I see that now... phew... thanks, I feel better now!
the play the mousetrap opens, nixom called for a sunday ban on gasoline sales, a cheverolet brother dies, it is the international day to eliminate crime against women, first american listened britsh broadcast, the DOW JONES highest peak record was set all happened on November 25,1982.
?? I think you have that year a little wrong, unless you're goofing..
no not all of it happened in 1982. it just all happened on that day.
Gotcha... for that I need to drive your VW Bus...
nice try. did i show you the pictures?
ugh just saying that you were listenin to music on a record player is old. ugh
I know... it's so weird when you think of it, but I kind of miss records.
rright on! i have two turntables ..and a microphone. but, really man.. i have like myriad-hundreds-myriad of the good ol' twelve inch wax. actually, these aren't old records tho. well, i have like one record from the 70s.. and sometimes i'll play my parents' vinyls from who knows when. but, the vinyls that i own are from the 90s and today. mostly, dance music, like house, breakbeat/drum'n'bass, and trance. don't worry, my CD collection is much broader.
We still have a working record player in my house and all my mom's old records..they're awesome.
If I'm right in my mathmatics here, 20 years ago would be 1982! I wasn't even thought about most likely in 1982. I do wish I could have been around to see the original Star Wars movies first come out in the theaters
how old are you? i was born...november 10, 1983....and u know i have never once met someone who was born the same day and year as me...EVER! its a very unique day i think. lol
yeah! I saw at least one! if I saw "Empire strikes back" I don't remember. but I def. saw "Return of the Jedi". I was 4 or 5 woohoo!
I am 17 at the momment, going to be 18 on Feb. 2nd. I don't think I've ever met anyone with my bithday..a lot of people have the days directly around me and more then half my friends were born the same month.
i just bought a Commodore 64. yes, really, seriously. i'm going to use it to visually edit the waveforms of samples that i'll be playing thru my ensoniq mirage keyboard. that's right.. i'm doing this 80s stylee. so, i need to get a monitor for the C64. you don't have one, do you? 'cuz i'll buy it from you, if you did. ..and a disk drive?
tv's work I believe. I used to have a commodore 64. then I threw it out. I also had an amiga I got from sombody, but it was frustratingly slow.. so I threw that out too. mostly because my mother said I accumulated to much computer junk. which is tru....
Like Dean said a TV will work, but the disk drive... hmmm... go to http://www.collectorscardsandgames.com/ and check with Mike there... he usually has that stuff!
What about John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band? > AKA Eddie and the Cruisers?
