Michael Crichton is in the news

ekulu by ekulu · Sep 27, 2002 · News · 242 views

And not just because his Santa Monica, CA home was robbed on sept 26, and he and his daughter were tied up. (By the way, he and his daughter are alright and nothing too valuable was stolen.)

Crichton, the author of many acclaimed books such as The Andromeda Strain, Jurrassic Park, Congo, and the creator of the critically acclaimed television show ER is coming out with a new book titled Prey, which explores biogenetics and nanotechnology (first paragraph).

I personally feel that Crichton's last book, Timeline, was his best yet, and i would love to see if this new book surpasses Timeline's quality. If you are a Michael Crichton fan or love fast paced sci-fi novels, try this one out. It comes out in 10 WEEKS, so pre-order it now!!!!!

not to bust your bubble, but i thought timeline was stupid. it was so unoriginal and i guessed everything that happened. bad book.

ekulu ekuluOG 2002

NO. Obviously u read the wrong book or perhaps you dont read english well. i dont know. Timeline was so good that i read all 400 pagees of the so called "stupid" book in 4 days! It was VERY, good, very suspenseful, very involving, and action packed. And for your information there doesnt need to be a THREAT to move along the plot of the book. Just go read Cat in the Hat and be happy.

malibu malibuOG 2001

okay. i defintely read the right book. and any book does need a threat or problem to move the book along. otherwise it would just not be interesting (such as this book). no action. all the problem solutions were so obvious. and i like cat in the hat. it was a very good book! (unlike this one)

ekulu ekuluOG 2002

What are you talking about? It was full of action! Almost every moment kept me in suspence until the very end! And obviously you have no appreciation for or little understanding of quantum physiscs. That alone made the bok awesome!

malibu malibuOG 2001

you could easily see the solution to every problem. it was right in front of their faces and took them 2 hours to figure them out. and quantam physics is explaned so simply. how could you not get it?

ekulu ekuluOG 2002

what are you talking about???? gimme an example of where something was "right in front of their faces" like that? What about the very beggining, when they walked away from the machine and the first thing that happened? Every moment wa suspenseful. Soemthing was always going wrong. Plus, i learned so much from reading that book. It's filled with so much knowledge here and there. The book was written suspensefully and the suspense progressed perfectly to the end, and there was a good payoff. The plot was tructured simply but it was done well.

DON'T READ IF YOU PLAN ON READING THE BOOK! the guy was obsessed with the past. he learned a language that no longer existed. he said he always wanted to live there. he fell in love with a girl there. they were all worried about who wanted to stay back and stuff, HE WANTED TO STAY BACK! there was no big sacrafice or solution. he spent his whole life for this oppurtunity.

ekulu ekuluOG 2002

well then thats the payoff at the end! The main thing is that they wer stuck there and they wanted to get out alive! That was not even a main part of the story!!!!! My goodness.

iwz iwz

my only question is: 2 hours of reading time, or 2 hours of the characters' time?

malibu malibuOG 2001

2 hours of character time. and its stupid because their whole problem is that they only have 24 hours or something to have a solution and they spend 2 hours on this little problem that has an easy solution. but it just may take 2 hours of reading time til you find out the solution.

ekulu ekuluOG 2002

ER..good show. They cut peoples arms off on there.

malibu malibuOG 2001

malibu malibuOG 2001

carter and abby were immoral, they found out the homeless guy was once a philsophy teacher that killed his daughter in a DWI. romano was transporting a patient in a helicopter and he bent down to pick up a blown off chart and got his arm cut off, it was all very thrilling.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002

quick explanation however i didnt enjoy the nitsex pop up for chatting with a webcam on leaving the site, you have stumbled me ian!!!! :P

iwz iwz

whoops! i didn't get one of those. sorry

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002

i didn't get that either...u must have a cookie that let's those popups thru...

ie 6 has a nice feature to let u have more control over cookies. it's saving me tons of headaches...

iwz iwz

i highly suggest checking out The Proxomitron. i use it on all my computers. it strips out all kinds of things, like pop-ups, banner ads, etc. it's highly configurable.

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002

why would u want all ur surfing to go thru someone else's proxy server, thus allowing them to log all your activity?

iwz iwz sux2beme

you install it locally. it's a program that runs on your computer and filters only your internet connection. no spying/other people's computers involved.

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002 iwz

the web site says it is configured by setting your proxy settings to go thru their proxy server... that is how they can filter the popups and javascripts, but it's also a way for them to track your surfing habits. face it...big brother is watching...no thanks!

iwz iwz sux2beme

you misunderstood what they said. you run your own proxy server on your own computer. Proximitron is a proxy server. You point your browser to use a proxy on localhost:8080, which is your own computer. you can see all the traffic from your web browser going through the program. As you request webpages, it reads through the html and removes certain things based on the rules you enable in the software. They do not run a publicly accessible proxy server on their own computers. All they provide is software. Believe me. It would be 10x slower if you were forced to go through their proxy servers.

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002 iwz

thanks for the clarification... sounds like it's worth checkin' out.

iwz iwz sux2beme

haha you still don't believe me

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002 iwz

what'r u talkin' about!!! i read further and see that u set up for the localhost and the 8080 port. the only drawback, then is that u have a TSR running (oh, and that some javascript code may not run right the first time). WHAT MORE DO U WANT FROM ME?!?!?!?

iwz iwz sux2beme

hahahaha!!! ok ok okay! we're on the same page! LOL!

sux2beme sux2bemeOG 2002 iwz

i know ;) jk
