The Phantom

togatweeter by togatweeter · Jun 6, 2003 · Games · 294 views

A company by the name of Infinium Labs has announced that they are going to release a new game console called the Phantom. It is said that it will even surpass PS2, XBox, and Gamecube's abilties and revolutionize the gaming world. (Sounds kinda scary...) Anyway, this baby is capable of playing PC games and downloading games. With this machine, you can get game subscriptions, demos, online connectivity, over 30,000 games to choose, and upgrades. It's also got a pretty sleek design. The release date is sometime around the end of 2003, around December.

thats what an XBOX is. the controllers for an XBOX are even USB just with different shape connectors. and there was a company around before XBOX came out that was trying to release a game console that was a pc with linux.

indrema, right?

magnum magnumOG 2001

yes but that plays games that can only be played on it, show me a xbox dvd i can put in my pc and play. Direct ports to pc dont count punk! And yes the xbox is basically a pc but its games are platform specific unlike this thing.

actually, this is the same company. their last project was called indrema, and it failed. this is their next project.

cool. I had no idea it was the same company. interesting.

you know what..there are times when i'm soo glad i have an xbox and a pc...like, when my sister wants to play the sims and i want to be online..so i shove her over to the TV, and everything's golden.

i'm not sure if i would get this when it's released. i'm not a big PC player myself. but hey, who knows wat'll happen. maybe this is gonna be big. it's just weird how time's going by so fast, and there's already platforms like Phantom and PSX coming out pretty soon

sounds like vaporware...

But i doubt if it can top HALO on XBOX

I think the point that was missed here is this:

The Phantom was originally designed to play games from every major game console, and PC games, and downloadable games. I'm not sure if their intent is still the same, but I believe it is. So to sum up, with one phantom you could play GameCube, PSX, PS2, XBOX, PC, and other videogames, but possibly at faster framerates, with smoother processing, and even (in some cases) with better graphics! Well, that's the idea, at least, and it sounds pretty cool.

actually, this is a diskless system that would be an Xbox/PS2/GameCube competitor and will get all its games from the Internet. it will ship with a gamepad, keyboard and mouse, and is built out of standard PC components, and is said to "look similar to current Dell cases."

gamespy has an article.

"The simplicity is even more apparent to the gamer. No longer will console owners have to trek to a store to purchase a game. Not only will players be able to purchase games online, but they'll be able to try them out as well. Infinium is planning two rental packages. The first will allow you to try out a game for three to seven days. The other will let you try out a group of games for a month; groupings would be by publisher, by genre, or user selected. The company is still nailing down the specifics of its rental scheme."

very cool, thanks for clearing that up, Ian. No doubt the real advantage is the phantoms online connectivity. You can download all kinds of games from all your favorite systems for your phantom. This way, you don't even have to leave your room to buy a new game! You buy it online, download it, and keep on playing games --all without ever leaving your chair! Say, if you happen to work from home, you really don't ever have to get up! Oh, and then you only need to connect your seat up to a sewage system, and fridge/range. Maybe people's legs will begin to disappear, because you will no longer need them. They will (de)evolve from your body because of "evolution". If any one gets a phantom, a job where you can work from home, a toilet/lazyboy with fridge and oven...then you can kiss your legs goodbye for good! Wow, isn't technology grand!? And how about that evolution, huh!? Let's give it up to the Phantom, and the false theory of evolution!!!!!!! *applause*.....(I could keep going, but I won't)

whoa.. i had no clue about being able to play games from previous platforms. that's tight

again, this will be able to play PC games, and PORTED console games. that means you can't just play an xbox game on it. it will have to be ported, just like many console games are ported from ps2 to xbox or gamecube and vice-versa right now.

Thanks, again, for keeping that in mind for us, we shouldn't forget that. So, e, what did you think about the idea of d-evolving to have no legs?

a phantom is a ghost and i don't believe in ghosts. therefore i don't believe in the existence of video games.

malibu malibuOG 2001

then what else is to blame for the stupidity of the youth?

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002

if i had to wager a guess, i would blame it on chunky peanut butter, i HATE chunky!!

malibu malibuOG 2001

i would blame it on the laziness of putting the peanut butter and jelly in squitrable tubes together.

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002

woah..and who KNOWS how many spoons!!!

togatweeter togatweeterOG 2003

LOL, so much pressure! ahhh

ballyhoo ballyhooOG 2001
