Tonight I've seen the most amazing photographs I've ever seen.
A Russian photographer named Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii devised a way to take color photos almost 100 years ago. It surreal to see people and places from the past that look so vivid and lifelike.. it's just amazing.
"The photographs of Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii (1863-1944) offer a vivid portrait of a lost world--the Russian Empire on the eve of World War I and the coming revolution. His subjects ranged from the medieval churches and monasteries of old Russia, to the railroads and factories of an emerging industrial power, to the daily life and work of Russia's diverse population."
You can view many of these pictures online at the Library of Congress exhibit, The Empire That Was Russia. There are pictures of people at work, people in traditional clothing, beatiful scenery, and famous landmarks, all taken in the early 1900s. This is the first time I've actually really felt so connected and close to the past, and I thought I'd share. I hope you enjoy!

That's really neat. I enjoyed the "people at work" section. When I went to Italy, I found myself quite taken with people doing their everday jobs. Imagine going to work everyday as a street vendor to support your family. I think the simplicity of it makes them so beautiful.

short hair is very cool and awesome and fun. Especially when everyone else around you has long boring hair and never does anything with it but let it hang!
