The Aurora Borealis
I found this really cool!
There have been two large explosions on the surface of the sun. This is called a sunspot. It's not recommended to look directly AT the sun to see them, but here's how you can look for them: http://www.spaceweather.com/sunspots/doityourself.html
One of the cool side-effects of the explosion, is a coronal mass ejection...which basically is something that may cause high magnetic disturbances in our atmosphere, and as a result.....we might see the AURORA!!!! (this is something I've wanted to see for quite some time.) I believe it said we should see it either tomorrow, or the day after. (Oct. 24, 25)
You can read about these things in more detail (and probably more understandably) if you go to the following sites.

UPDATE!
Believe it or not, there were a number of solar flares, including the largest ever recorded. Check that story out here: http://www.msnbc.com/news/984388.asp

great. That's YOUR fault, not mine. This is amazing, I can't wait to see the sunspots (using the prescribed method) and the aurora!
oh yeah, and if you can't figure out mindless babble, then maybe you're on the wrong website! (just kidding everybody!)
why would this make us see the aurora? you can only see it in alaska.
you have to read the articles to find out. It's in the http://www.spaceweather.com article.
"Another Coronal Mass Ejection was already en route when this morning's explosion occured...Forecasters expect it to arrive on Oct. 24th and possibly trigger a strong geomagnetic storm. Sky watchers at middle latitudes should be alert for auroras."--spaceweather.com
once i had a Coronal Mass Ejection. it had been brewing for... musta been weeks. the kind that you can't see, but they hurt like crap. but when it finally became ripe on my back, i POPPED that sucker! man, what an explosion!
ohhhhhhh, that made me sick.

It's like in that movie. About the Mets fan guy, and his father died. And the Auroras came and disturbed the radio waves and stuff, and it was a really good movie. Um. what was that movie called. With that amazing guy from Count of Monte Cristo. What the heck is that movie called. FREQUENCY! That's it. Really good movie.
