Geography Links

I arranged my favorites list the other day because it was getting messy and bothering me. That's not the point though. The point is that I finally arranged all these websites that I get from my old History teacher. He sends out "Random Information" emails with all sorts of random helpful websites. I've decided to pass on the knowledge to you guys. This weeks list of helpful links are Geography Links

http://historic-cities.huji.ac.il/historic_cities.html
This site contains maps, literature, documents, books and other relevant material concerning the past, present and future of historic cities.

http://www.yourchildlearns.com/europe_map.htm
This site has an interactive map of Europe, which is good for people like me who could not locate France in 7th grade because of the failure of the American School System.

http://www.travelias.freeserve.co.uk/mainmenu/03maps/1maps.htm
Where is East Gabib? Well this site can help you locate it. You can pick a section of the Eart and zoom in on it.

http://www.infoplease.com/atlas/mapindex.html
I found this site really helpful last year for my European History class. It breaks the world down into: continents, regions, countries, proposed countries (?), US states, Canadian provinces and territories, and territories and dependencies.

http://www.rethinkingschools.org/just_fun/games/mapgame.html
This is good for anyone who has been following the whole 'problems in the Middle East' thing yet cannot figure out just what is in the Middle East.

http://www.graphicmaps.com/webimage/countrys/me.htm
I saved the best for last. This site claims that you can find any country on their maps..so have a go at it!

I couldn't find Sealand on the last website, so I guess it doesn't have every country on it.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Oh wow..I am a failure!

D
dgiaimoOG 2003

Haha. Actually, I really wouldn't expect them to have it since most of the world doesn't even recognize it as a sovereign nation.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

stipulations, stipulations.

magnum magnumOG 2001

sadly it is true

BTW, if anyone doesn't know what Sealand is, here is their website. No, this is not a joke. This place actually exists.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Well..I know where I'm moving!! This statement just touched my heart:
"We would like to make it clear that after 32 years of pioneering work, and the blood sweat and tears that have been part of the rich adventure in the formation and establishment of the Principality of Sealand, our web site is the only official web site of the Principality of Sealand. It has come to our attention that others are claiming to represent us on the Internet and in the press, even showing photographs of my family and offering membership of business foundations, fake Sealand passports, and other services. Some of these people, it seems, were involved in the terrorist attack on Sealand in the 1970s that nearly resulted in loss of life, and did involve an international incident with the British, Dutch and German governments."
~ Michael of Sealand

wait! i have something to say on this topic!

sealand, because it has no laws from any european nations, does a lot of...shall we say...(ian you'll appreciate this)...illegal server storage. You want to host...an illegal website?? sure! they will do it for you! the box will sit on their island (i guess they have a fiber optic cable running to it) and they will host your website. AND if the government of your particular nation tries to shut them down - they are heavily armed.

(take that, MPAA!)

haha. i read this in a UK issue of PCGamer magazine.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

dan! are you thinking what i'm thinking? errr, probably not. carry on.

D
dgiaimoOG 2003

Are you pondering what I'm pondering?

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

i'm trying to remember the last time i honestly "pondered" over something. maybe i wondered how Brain hung around with Pinky at all. NARF!

iwz iwz

you should read Cryptonomicon. You might like it.

toxicgirlOG 2003

Sealand, now there is an imaginative name.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

how interesting. we should make an ezabel event to go there.

Wait a sec, you organize your favorites? You must be more anal than I am.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

..no one else organizes their favorites?

rocksupastar rocksupastarFounder

ehh, thats too much work, although i do have kts and my favorites seperate...just cause the dumb vegan recipes take up too much space

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002

i definitely organize my favorites.

"humor", "adventures", "cow tipping", "windows", "movies" and "games" are some of my categories

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Like..I have major categories such as: higgins sites, shopping, mvoies, music, school, random others, food, pictures/camera. And then all of those have sub-categories.

T
toxicgirlOG 2003

I admit that my buddy list is super organized. But its the organization of my CD collection that will make your head spin.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

I do not have a very large CD collection but if I did I would enjoy organizing it. I like organizing all my files on the computer too into super specific folders so each main folder has a million sub categories.

D
dgiaimoOG 2003

I love organizing stuff, but I never seem to have the time to do it. I really need to reorganize my books and CDs, but I have so many of them that it would take forever. (Well, at least a day or two.)

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

My only books that are organized are my Star Wars books which have to go in perfect chronological order.

iwz iwz

order they were written in?

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

there are time-lines available. she may have them in star wars universe chronology.

iwz iwz

yeah, that's what i was wondering

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002 iwz

Yeah, they're in star wars universe chronology. I had them in sets (like the rogue squadron series all together) but that upsets me because some books that come out in singles happen in between some of the series books (like Courtship of Princess Leia happens in the middle of the Rogue Squadron series) so what do I do there?

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002 thatdarngirl

that probably kills the height order as well - paperback vs. harddcover

iwz iwz skaorsk8

ohh yeah, i would probably keep hardcover separate from softcovers too. hrm

iwz iwz thatdarngirl

personally, i would keep the series together, and arrange other books that come in between as close as possible. this would look best on a bookshelf. then, if i wanted to, i would temporarily arrange in starwars universe chronoligical order as needed.

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002 iwz

temporarily??!?! you mean, like, when company comes over and what-not? you are one sick dude, zabel

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002 iwz

Yeah, thats what I have at the moment because the series really do look nice together. The papeback problem hasn't been too much trouble since the only paper backs I have are A New Hope and some book that came between the Phantom Menace and Clone Wars (is that what the last one was called? I only feel a little ashamed that I don't know).

forrestina forrestinaOG 2002

haha we've talked about this before, but i really don't think i'm as bad as you, girl.
