Have you seen what Lucas is changing in the DVD release of the original Star Wars films?
As if making Greedo shoot first in the Cantina in "A New Hope" wasn't enough, Lucas has now decided that he wants the story to be more contiguous across the originals, and the prequels. Oh wait, did I say story? I meant actors.
Take a look at Anakin Skywalker in the pic on the right. Recognize him? Check out the video clip. Not quite the original Star Wars you remember, is it? They also changed the music (you can here it in the video clip).
As if that's not enough, check out the new voice of Boba Fett. Ah yes, the voice of Temuera Morrison. How nice. All stormtroopers will now have his voice. Seems the Emperor talking to Vader is now different as well...
And check out the revamped Jabba the Hutt in "A New Hope". Here's a closeup. At least he looks a bit better than the one in the original Special Edition.

See that is messed up because most of the storm troopers by the time new hope started were no longer clones. At least that was the way the story used to be but now who knows.
Yeah, Storm Troopers are definetly not supposed to be clones by the time of A New Hope. Clones are re-introduced later in some books but then its like "omg..who could have done this clones haven't been around for forever!" So..Lucas is obviously just making things up as he goes along now.
around the time of a new hope the clones had become to costly for the empire to be producing so very limited batches were being made and interwoven with conscripts and graduates from the imperial acadamy if i remember correctly most of the cloning technoligy was lost or destroyed during by the end of the clone wars and the few remaining spaarti cloning cylinders that were left were taken to mount tantis on wayland and the clone of a jedi master named Joruss C'boath was assigned by the emporer to gaurd the store house. clones were not again introduced until admiral thrawn began cloning Baron soontir Fell later on during the Hier to the empire saga, not long after Thrawn fell at the hands of his body gaurd Ruhk the emporer returned as a clone in the dark empire saga so the remaining cloning tanks were stored on the planet Byss. but i agree with that lucas is making things up as he goes the only thing he evern kept canon is the name coruscant which he in fact did not come up with but Timothy Zahn did.
Wow..yeah I read all the books but your memory is real good. I remember the whole thing about the cloning facilities being moved to Wayland and all that and clone Luuke but I didn't remember all the details.
Do you know the name of the saga with the Emperor clone? I've read about it being alluded to in a bunch of other books but never found it myself to read and I'd like to.
I have both of those books. they were pretty good too. Pretty much anything Zahn puts out is great. It's a dualogy the first book is Spector of the Past and the second one is Vision of the future.
i've read these. and then when they discover the colone of general thrawn and they consider waking it so it can help them. those were good books. that was the first time i read about mara jade with luke.
did you read the originals, hier to the empire, dark forc rising, and last command those are prolly the best star wars storys ever even better then the movies if lucas was smart he woulda made movies outta those.

i read those. for a while i read all of them i could get my hands on. but then in one of the farther along books i read something horrible that i hated and i just didnt' wanna keep reading. but the stories about han and leia's kids are awesome.

lately the dark horse clone war comics have been awsome, did anyone else catch seasons 1 and 2 of cartoon netowkrs clone wars i cant wait till season 3 comes out and the best part is soon season 1 and 2 are coming out on dvd along with the original droids and ewoks cartoons on dvd and then the original ewok movies also coming out on dvd
I actually have ewoks and the battle for endor on a tape. I taped it off of tv ages ago. That was one of my favorite movies.
i can't remember the name of the book but i'm pretty sure it's the one where all leia and han's kids are like 17, 16 and they all take turns flying ships through a asteroid belt. it's a game that one of han's friends runs to place bets on and train criminals to get away from good people by running into the asteroid fields. yeah and then later the despicable thing happens. but i didn't ruin anything by describing that part of the book. i wish i could remember the name.
I'm almost done re-reading the whole Thrawn books. So good, how could I have forgotten how good these were? I just love Thrawn, he is such an amazing bad guy. Like..if I were in the alliance I would have switched sides for him! And Mara is such an awesome character too. I also enjoy Karrade very much as well as some of the people in his organization you get to see a little of like Ghent the slicer.
if mememory serves the book where they are racing through the astroid belts was one of the first jedi order books, if not the first i only read the first two jedi order books then i stopped cuz i really hated the new bad guys they had.
what were the the yuzan vong i think they were called, yea these non technological bio organic aliens were supposed to be more dangerous then the empire, i just didnt but it. and then of course killing off chewbacca and then young anakin (hans son) yea none of that made me really desire to conitniue reading the newer books, but everything b4 jedi order i kept up with.
Yeah I know what you mean. Though I like the Vong I thought it was a rather original idea. Well sort of original anyway. lol. I didn't like them killing of chewy either or Anakin for that matter, but at least they didn't get rid of Jacen. He's totally my favorite star wars character.
The books mean nothing to the movies. Just because Timothy Zaun wrote that the stormtroopers are not clones doesn't mean in the old movies that they are not. Think about it this way, if the Republic could not raise an army in the height of it's power, how is the empire going to raise an army of normal humans out of the destruction of the galaxy caused by the clone wars? That doesn't make sense. The storm troopers are indeed the clones, or else Lucas would not have bothered introducing that idea.
actually its pretty easy for the republic / empire to raise an army of non clone troopers, the original idea was that the emporer came into power using pro human anti alien propeganda to gain support.
humans are found in almost every corner of the galaxy, so it wouldnt be hard to get a bucnha humans riled up and wanting to join the army by saying aliens are attacking or bombing human settlements, but in reality Lucas never intended the stormtroopers to be clones, and he has even admitted this.
origianlly the stormtroopers were going to be left overs of the mercenary army of manderlorians, then he changed the idea to let the mandalorians have been killed off by the jedi but basicly also wiped out most of the jedi, and boba fett was supposed to be the last remaining mandalorian.
however things of course continued to get changed, and lucas scrapped alot of his older ideas thinking his newer ones were cooler, for instance in the original story of a new hope lucas intedned there to be a wookie battle but since he couldnt do it he attempted to mimick it in return of the jedi, with the ewoks. now in episode 3 he is again going to attempt to do it with actual wookies, (interesting side note EWOK is derived from the word WOOKIE) so while now the story has been changed to make storm troopers clones i think that it doesnt neccesarrily mean we have to accept it, perhaps they intermixed clones with recruits from the imperial acadamy, i think at this point since there are so many difrent versions, you can take and pick and choose what you like.
I mean lucas screwed so much stuff up now hes trying to even fix some things like erasing the greedo shoots first, or having han step on jabbas tail.
Having Greedo shoot first was one of the worst ideas EVER put into a special edition. Lucas was nuts for doing that. You had Han Solo kill Greedo in a rather cold blooded manner. Stand by it!
Actually the books do mean something because unlike say the star trek books each book is approved and the whole universe is supposed to gel.
very good point, which just goes to prove that Lucas is truly the evil emperor in the galaxy. for example, if any has ever heard of the orginal star wars trading card game it was really awsome and very well researched, it ran for about 6 years then lucas arts bought stock in Wizards of the coast, so they decided to cancel there contract with decipher the company that was making the awsome card game and let the freaks who designed pokemon make a whole new card game which totally sucked, just so they could have a bigge profit margin.

i'd like to point out that some of these changes are VAST improvements. i'll only do the Episode IV because I've seen that 50x more than the other ones.
7. The original shooting scene between Han and Greedo has been restored.
***The current scene makes no sense. Greedo shoots first, because Lucas didn't want the viewers to feel than Han shot him in cold blood - yet, why would Greedo miss from 5 feet away? What kind of bounty hunter misses like that? It's stupid. It should be fixed. Han is a bad man. That's why we like him.***
18. The Obi-Wan/Vader duel has been spruced up. It is much more epic and there is much more movement. A modified version of Duel of the Fates is being considered for the scene.

You're right some of the changes are okay. Not so sure about the fight scene between Obi-wan and Vader though..its so corny its amazing.
Also, he's updating the added Han Solo/Jabba scene again which is good because it looked gay the last time.
yup aint the changes great by the way the title of episode three shall be ready drum roll please STAR WARS EPISODE 3 REVENGE OF THE SITH. but aside from the butchering of the original trilogy er i mean changes :D we will be blessed with star wars clone wars on dvd coming the end of this year and beggining of next year we will be witnessing star wars clone wars season 3 on cartoon network.by the way if any one out there is such a fan that they play the old star wars card game let me know its so hard to find people to game with. i also play lord of the rings cards both online and off, and i play hero clix and the old school middle earth and avp card game, and i have tried that new marvel card game as well, ill be getting heavy into the new ninja turtle card game coming out soon so if anyone is interested lemme know.

It makes no sense to change Anakin to the younger Anakin in that ROTJ clip and keep Alec Guiness as Obi-Wan. Why would Anakin appear young and Obi-Wan as an old man? Either change them both or leave them as is. Personally I think changing them is retarded.

It's kind of logical to make the changes, as the original Anakin looks nothing like what Luke or Leia looks like, so I agree with sticking Hayden Christensen in there. BUT now the original trilogy looks like it's more of a work in progress now than a completed movie. What's going to happen when DVD is obsolete? Another revamp of all six movies?

as far as hayden christinson as anakin goes suposedly they want to show anakin as he is in spirit form when he was part of the light side, he obviously turns to the dark side while he is still hayden so in a way this makes sense do i think i like it however no i dont lol lucas shoulda just left the originals alone i mean why the heck do u wanna go putting in jar jar binks back in return of the jedi, and what is with watto? i mean if lucas wants to be cool have him add dash rendar or jorrus c'boath or a few nohgri in the shadows maybe even mara jade during jabbas palace or prince xizor, maybe hell pop something in revenge of the sith, so far weve only got a glimmer of dash rendars outrider in a new hope taking of from mos eisley, and we get to see ayllaa secura (who i got to meet and have lunch with at last years comic con hehe shes so hot) in episode 2.
Mara Jade during Jabba's Palace makes sense. I was thinking about that tonight as I watched Return of the Jedi (I'm sick so I chilled and watched it). Having her just even standing in the background on the floating thingy would be kinda cool.
The only thing is I think she was gone before Luke even got there, though I would have to check the book again to double check that.

spectre and vision of the future were awsome books, but they dealt more with a cloned royal gaurd, interestingly enough if any of you haveever read the crimson empire series dark horse put out, which deals with the royal gaurds after the emperors death, youll find that the royal guards were also clones, and they even resembled Jango fett, which was a nice tough by Mike richardson who is president of DH.

Im sorry but, hayden is like the WORST actor ever... the only thing that saves him is that hes good looking. But the changing of Boba Fett and the Storm Troopers voices? Why? There really is NO reason to do that... im all for extending fight scenes and digitally remastering films... but leave them the way they originally WERE!

Cause it's what we grew up with. For many of us it's what opened the door to science fiction, fantasy, appreciation for space and the future. It's fun to day dream occasionaly and to tell stories. And this was one of the best stories at the time.
yeah i grew up watching certain movies too but i wouldn't care if they changed.. i duno, maybe, but i doubt it.
