Star Wars is going to the Telly!

rocksupastar by rocksupastar · Mar 21, 2006 · News · 200 views

Flomo posted this in musings, but i think it warrents a news story. Cause this actually IS news!

check it... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4808746.stm

Looks like our boy Lucas is planning on doing a TV series spin-off of the Stars Wars film franchise that will run to at least 100 episodes. It would cover the 20 years in the life of Luke Skywalker growing up and throw in some new characters. Lucas has a few things on his plate, so he wont get his butt in gear with this until 2008...

I dunno how i feel about this yet, could be hot... could be horrible and ghey. But hopefully its good and THANKFULLY it looks like none of the cast of the movie will be in it... NO NO JAR JAR! lol

Main thing that concerns me:

"It would cover the 20 years in the life of Luke Skywalker growing up"

Woohoo, 20 years of Luke being bored, farming moisture, and blasting rats in his speeder.

Haha! "Farming moisture". :)

Hm. Luke growing up. I don't know if I'd watch that. Maybe they'll show you, like they did with Anakin, that he was a special kid with some pretty neat talents. Jedi kids can pilot detached space shuttle engines wired to an unclosed make-shift control baskets with ease. Threading the needle. Whomp rats. Blue milk. Owen. Beru. Jawas. Sand people. Droids. Hutts. Bounty hunters. Mos Eisley. Who am I kidding? Sign me up.

Luke didn't know how to utilize his jedi powers until Obi-Wan taught him.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

yeahhh, but he showed that extra special jedi potential like anakin in episode 1. no, he couldn't use a lightsaber, he couldn't do force pushes, mind tricks or triple back flips--BUT his senses were heightened and his instincts were above normal. don't test me, son.

Luke's backstory, nothing worth 100 episodes, and I love star wars:

"Wormie"?? What's that all about?

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

i don't think it'll be as focused on luke as you think. say theres gonna be 22 episodes in a season. i'd bank that less than 8 are about Luke. there would be just too much things to keep track of when it comes to the mythos, also character and continuity consistancy will be a major issue. they're gonna go the route of making interesting [?] stories about characters they can make up and write any-which-way.

this comment on slashdot sums expresses my fears pretty well:

Luke Skywalker + Sailor Moon= Sailor Skywalker.

It has a certain ring to it.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

The growing of the Rebellion is something that's always interested me, I'd like to see stuff about that.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

It could be like a detailed documentary: The Life of a Moisture Farmer.

After 100 episodes we'll be able to open our own Moisture Farm!

without reading any other comments - I think this is a stupid idea - Luke's life was supposed to be a boring ordinary existence in a desert world until R2D2 and C3P0 come along and turn his world upside down.

I like the idea of Star Wars TV shows if they're done as well as Battlestar Galactica or Stargate. but if its just about Luke as a kid its going to be extremely revisionist.

magnum magnumOG 2001

2nd, stargate/battlestar galactica i think are done very well. If the tvshow starts from right after the 6th movie and went from there i think that would be good.

rocksupastar rocksupastarFounder

thats what i was thinking, the timing would be better if they did it later... Why cant they do soemthing with Thrawn and the Sun Crusher and everything from the books, cmooon!

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

I love Thrawn and the Sun Crusher! Jedi Academy..such good stuff.

ANSWERS!! I HAVE ANSWERS!!

the whole premise sounds less lame when explained here. Also, this is not new information, apparently it is being rehashed.

thanks for the link. some good info there, but wow, i really have lost all hope in george lucas.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Why- 'We're going do something that would normally cost [$20 million-$30 million] and try to do it for $1 million.' Lucas said he'll shoot the series on a Sony digital camera system that anyone can buy at an electronics store."

Like Lucas doesn't have the money?

Wow..we're all gonna look -really- cool sitting around with those 3D glasses on to watch this if that turns out to be true.

brothermanOG 2004

I'd rather see a series about the Knights of the Old Republic. We need to see how the Sith self destructed and went into hiding for 1,000 years and where the prophecy came from. I've seen enough about the Skywalkers.

coreyfeldman coreyfeldmanOG 2003

There sounds like a much more interesting story.

SW is nothing without Jedi in it. So watching a series that has nothing to do with force users is not appealing at all.

that picture of george lucas makes him look like he's farting

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder

he also looks like he has leprosy

flomojopoanode flomojopoanodeFounder

where does his face and and his chin start? Is the beardline supposed to indicate a chin?

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder

lol... i think you're right, i think the only reason he has a beard is to hide the fact that he doesn't have one
