eZabel Legacy

Jay Karas joined eZabel in December 2003 and made his presence felt immediately — not with quick one-liners, but with full-paragraph essays about music. All 12 of his comments landed in Music Talk, and every single one was a thesis statement. He kicked things off by starting a thread called "ATTENTION SPAN FOR GOOD MUSIC??" that challenged people to look beyond whatever their friends were listening to and actually explore. He championed Damien Rice and Sensefield as criminally underrated, wrote a passionate defense of the Dave Matthews Band that turned into a multi-day sparring match with thatdarngirl, and at one point nominated "the Jay Karas Band" for Official Band of eZabel — a move that skaorsk8 enthusiastically endorsed while noting he'd been waiting forever for their rumored 12-track CD. The self-promotion was cheeky enough that it landed as charm rather than arrogance. His debates with thatdarngirl had a rhythm to them: he'd write something earnest, she'd push back hard, he'd get defensive, then apologize, then she'd soften — a cycle that prompted iwz to prophesy "someday, you two will be married." His average comment ran over 500 characters, making him one of the longest-winded posters per comment on the entire site.

eZabel Personality Type: ENFJ — "The Bandleader." Jay was a passionate communicator who genuinely believed good music could elevate people, and he wrote every comment like he was trying to convert the unconverted — sometimes stumbling over his own earnestness, but never once lacking conviction.
