I just read this thread, and find it very humorous. There is actually a girl from my hall who put her profile on JW Match, and I find that interesting, because her dad is an elder, and you would think he'd try to be more aware of the goings-on under his roof. Anyways, this site (JW Match, not ezabel) concerns me, and I'm just waiting for a local needs part on it in our hall.
I was telling some of my friends about it. In my area, the friends are unaware of it and were totally appalled by it. It's been around for a couple of years now I think. But I agree with you, it amazes me that some witnesses think this is acceptable-and then they proudly post their success story. It's so dumb it's funny.
It's not that I find it "acceptable" or "unacceptable"...I just think its kind of disturbing that people feel the need to find a significant other online
What I'd like to know is how these people think they could possibly get to know someone well enough online to have any sort of serious relationship with them. Even assuming that both parties are being fully honest (which is an incredibly naive assumption) there's just so much you can't possibly find out about someone online.
You call them on the phone? I donno, I'm not speaking from experience here but they use the online thing just to find someone who they then get to know by other means.
So, my opinion on this matter is that you can only really get to know someone by being around them for a significant amount of time. I just don't think that long-distance relationships work, and if you meet someone on the internet, unless they happen to live near you, I don't see how you could have anything but a long-distance relationship.
our CO has mentioned things about it to the people out here
THere was a talk given in our Distrcit Assembly about internet dating. To me it seems pretty worldly. We logged on to see what it was all about and we could not stop CRACKING up! We found some from our area that had their pics up. But we refrained from mentioning it to them....it might embarrass them.
Wow. You're a lot nicer than I am. If I found out that one of my friends was on jwmatch.com I would have so much fun. :) They would never hear the end of it. :)
