They want to be 'friends' with the nice guy and marry the semi-nice or bad guy. They then complain to their 'friend' that life is miserable. Meanwhile the 'friend' has always been in love with the girl and supports her from the start.

It's the Ducky syndrome. I think I'm cursed.
