okay i have a couple of things to say (okay go on, say it...oh geez) eZabel is awesome (didnt expect that one didja?) i obviously wouldnt be on here as long as i have unless i think so. i think ian is a computer genius...and we should all bow to him...haha j/k (except about the genius part... he really is)

heres a lil what i think though... i really dont enjoy people who pull scriptures, articles, etc out, and start preaching... we all know youre spiritual, you dont have to proove it by saying those things. So if you (this is a general term not to one specific person) feel that i rain on your parade, i apologize...usually things that i say... are in a joking form... but then if you get offended...well... im going to play on that... b/c to be offended with half the things i say... is silly... so this is my disclaimer... i love all... and if you personally know me.. im not a negative person... but for those in the "online world" .... well... tough...noogies :) love ya.

ps:im cooler than thou... :) (once again.. this is a JOKE)

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002

man, i can't believe how much i hate you. Exodus 14:2 backs me up on this.

"i really dont enjoy people who pull scriptures, articles, etc out, and start preaching"

What exactly do you mean by that? Any form of the above, or the preaching part? Because what I see more then 'preaching' is friends trying to show some encouragment by either referencing a scripture or an article, I can't think of an instance where I've read either of those being done come across as preachy. I don't see a problem with building up one another. Sometimes its what the person on the other side has needed to help them through. I mean, if that's so wrong so would sharing life experiances that have helped us to have a deeper appreciation for the things we love.

Did that make sense? Either way I still love you. :)

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Well, the only problem I could possibly see with the pulling out of articles and scriptures and all is this IS a public website, not one just for JWs and all..soo..I donno.

modestjesse modestjesseOG 2004

As long as your not quoting and just making reference it shouldn't be a problem.

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

im honestly confused as to what the difference is... and why there IS a difference. really it doesnt matter. oh well...

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

there is a difference...many online here have made several references to WT's & awakes etc so it's not jsut limited to one particular person.... =)

tinser tinserOG 2002

hm, i dont get it...why would that be a problem? we want worldy people to read the bibles and literature

thewalkhome thewalkhomeOG 2003

if the society wanted us to witness online, theyd have made a provison for that...nuff said.

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002

umm...dude...they did... it's called www.watchtower.org ...not to mention jw-media.org, where they have everything from brochures to COMMERCIALS...

thewalkhome thewalkhomeOG 2003

No dan, thats the offical website for the society...when we have "I.M. WITNESSING DAYS" as a part on the Service meeting, we'll talk.

thewalkhome thewalkhomeOG 2003

in fact, at my bookstudy, it was brought out that when looking at the picture on pages 116 and 117 of the Worship Book, you dont see anyone preaching onlone, and so it is not (currently) the best of ideas.

skaorsk8 skaorsk8OG 2002

i keep hearing "blah blah blah dan's right blah blah chex mix rules" so why don't you go get me a snack and then we'll think about how i'm going to start some online bible study with anna kornakova. ok thanks.

HAHAHAHAHA

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

man i would get my time in like one day!

perrin perrinOG 2004

Um just because a scriptural information is mentioned doesn't mean it's witnessing. It's not like anyone on here is preaching to others it's just from time to time spiritual things come into conversation there is nothing wrong with that.

modestjesse modestjesseOG 2004

Actually, after some more thinking about it, it could. Seriously, and if you want a further explanation shoot me an ez message and I'll do my best to explain.

tinser tinserOG 2002

hmm, i disagree...i dont think we should avoid using scriptures or making references to magazines merely for the fact that somebody may stumble across it...if its not done with the purpose of witnessing, then its different

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

i completely agree with thatdarngirl. which is why i dont like it... doesnt mean you dont have to like it... go ahead do what you want... but personally i feel like listen, if it means THAT much just call the person... OR if you dont want to do that drop them an email... but you never DO know who is reading, and maybe who is posting... im just using a little caution....

but i DO know what youre saying. luv ya too jes...man we gotta hang out soon, i had so much fun that time at swingdancing a couple months ago lets make and sequal of that night...with out the drama :-D

modestjesse modestjesseOG 2004

There was drama? I don't remember, but that was a fun night!

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

singing loudly on the streets of the heights!,,,,you dont remember?

modestjesse modestjesseOG 2004

Of course I remember that, but I don't look at that as drama, thats normal for me!

Wasn't I singing Journey with Adam?

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

i think so... us three were singing... im sorry thats normal for you...

modestjesse modestjesseOG 2004

Tina it's a lot of fun! Just being myself! :)

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

no i mean im sorry that you have to go through drama and thats normal for you.(the people telling you what to do.. and being like all weird..... alright im shutting up bc i dont think you get what im saying)

OHHHHHHH I get it now, and yes, what was up with that? God forbid I enjoy myself. They're just all cranky cause they don't know how to have a good time!

perrin perrinOG 2004

Yes I have to agree there is nothing wrong with mentioning something spiritual just because it is a public forum.

starshiptrooper starshiptrooperOG 2003

Jesse. u are right on the money. using scriptures can be a big help. they are Jahs thoughts. do we think when the elders use scriptures to councel us they are being they are being preachy? was Jesus preachy when he used scriptures to help his disciples descern things? if a sis or bro use a scripture to try and help us see things more as Jah sees them is that a hurtful thing?

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

youre very right, using scriptures IS a big help... which is why the Bible is provided for us... what i do-not agree with is using the Bible online...time and time again we are asked by the F.F.&D.S. not to do that...

if you want to know why i think this, please ezmessage me....

....without profanity.

ekulu ekuluOG 2002

somebody really used profanity to you???

starshiptrooper starshiptrooperOG 2003

there is a difference between profanity and swear words.
someone got that mixed up.

iwz iwz

wait a minute... what's the difference?

ekulu ekuluOG 2002

nawi think theyre pretty much the same.

fivezero fivezeroOG 2003

Yeah, I think so too. I thik Ian is hoping she doesn't explore this and give examples, lol.

starshiptrooper starshiptrooperOG 2003

swear words ( to me at least) are words u can use in everyday speech, ie. Jesus went to the bible *hell* or he was *damned* to a life in prison.
Profanity is words u wouldn't say under any condition, even if a desert spider was crawling up you leg.

iwz iwz

ok, to swear means:

To use profane oaths; curse.
Or
To use abusive, violent, or blasphemous language against; curse.

profanity means:

Abusive, vulgar, or irreverent language.

The thesaurus notes as synonyms of "profanity":

Synonyms: abuse, blasphemy, curse, cursing, cuss, cuss word, cussing, dirty language, dirty name, dirty word, execration, four-letter word, French, impiety, imprecation, irreverence, malediction, no-no, obscenity, profaneness, sacrilege, swearing, swearword

So, anyway, regardless of what you call it, saying words like those can be offensive to others when said with any sort of "tone" behind them.

NOTE: I'm not saying you said anything with malintent! I'm just making a point.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

and a very good point it is indeed!

*see you are a genius ;)

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002 thefunkyfresh

A euphaNism is when you use a word to replace a swear word, like saying darn.

the world would be a much better place if people just DIDN'T get offended. Seriously. My advice to humankind would be to stop takin yourself so seriously. So what if someone did or said something whatever, maybe they're having a really crappy day or someone hurt them and they're bitter now, i duno. I think wars would be avoided if people just let things go.
