I had hamsters before. In fact I probably had 3 generations. I originally bought 2, both male I thought. Well they ended up having children. Then the parents started eating the children so I ousted the parents, let them go in the back yard and just kept the kids that weren't eaten. Start cycle 2. Had to get rid of the parents again, vicious cycle. :)
They were fun though, cute and cuddly. But if you don't keep up on cleaning the cage it can stink something fierce.
that happened w/ our first 2-Tom & Jerry. only "jerry" turned out to be Geraldina. 10 babies. but in later years my hamsters ALWAYS managed to be able to escape no matter WHAT i put them in so i kept them in the bathtub so the smell was pretty contained. i always loved the cedar chip nesting stuff they had though
Yeah..what is with them and eating babies? So nasty.
Hamsters also die of really dumb diseases..like "wet tail". How gay is that? Our other two died of internal bleeding and pnemonia.
wet tail? what the heck?? and how the heck did they have internal bleeding? what were you doing to those poor things?!
More importantly how did you find out they had wet tail or internal bleeding? You'd spend more at the vet to find out then to go get new ones.
when their tail gets wet..they die! It's a hamster disease!
And I don't know how we knew it was internally bleeding (maybe we could see it?) or how that happened. Maybe it took the elevator to the third floor of our barbie house and just jumped off by itself.
