The Donnas. I mean, I met those girls last year when I saw them in Philly and they were totally cool but now they're on SNL and TRL?
so what they want more money-that's what they do for a living and they want to get paid-there's nothing wrong with that. and if you listen to their old stuff versus their new stuff it's not THAT much different.
Yet. They can't change things over night because then their fans will know and just up and leave. Making money and being a sell out don't have to go hand in hand. Weezer hasn't sold out yet and they make tons of money just doing what they love- making music. Sure, they play to the public a little but in the end they're doing what they want not what someone else tells them to do (example: putting the music that they want on their new CD on their site for fans to listen to and comment on before it goes on the CD) The Donnas are just letting a new bigger record company lead them around and tell them what to do. It's really cool that they're getting recognized and all but they're taking the easy way out.
interesting article i read about weezer
I read that once but I don't remember where..thanks for the link though!
no prob i read it while i was waiting for a girlfriend to try on some pants at hollister
hm, my biggest reason for thinking a band has "sold out" is when they start playing HUGE venues...like arenas and crap....once they cross that line...sell-out...they can still make a ton of money touring playing smaller shows....like asbury park..thats a good size....but thats as big as it should get, i think.
hmmm so the beatles were sell outs?
well, if you're going by my definition of a sell-out....yup..guess so. i'm not saying i dont LIKE all that music...i still like alota cheezy sell-out pop crap....i'm just saying those kinda bands/singers wouldnt be my favorites.
well that may be true of some groups, but who are we to judge. i guess that's why it's called an opinion though. what can also happen: if a group makes truly good music they are bound to have more people want to see them perform so they may start playing larger venues.
oh you're the coolest person i know. you're saying that if they play an arena to 50,000 people in one night they are selling out. but if in the same area they played a concert at a venue that fits 100 people, 500 times...at 5 concerts a day for 100 days. then they aren't selling out ??? even though they are playing to the same amount of people. i dont know about you.. but if i had a chance to get 100 days of work put into 1 i think i would do it. bite me.
first of all, stop dreaming, i'm never gonna bite you. second...100 people is SUPER small...thats like cafe small...i'm not talking about quite that small...but i think if a band is truely in it "for the music" which okay, duh, most of em ARE in it for the money...but playing smaller shows are SO much more fun for the band and for the fans...like crazily alot more...i mean i can say that based on me...the fan..haha...and just articles i've read and stuff..but at smaller shows there is so much more interaction w/ fans, and ur actually all up close...its awesome! huge shows suck.
yea but as an artist , standing in front of 50,000 people.. all singing along and moving along ... is a lot better than 200 people .
you dream not of playing to 200 people . you want a huge following. you want all that you can appreciate your music. i know this because as a kazoo player i'm tired of just my family being the audience. i want 50,000 people blowing the lips with me. bllooo bblooo blooo bee beee beee baahhh
hahahahahhahahaha.....sicko.
a true sell out is a person, group, or thing... who one day has spikey hair and plays crazy rock and then the next day after talking to the record executive they have blonde hair with red streaks and sing pop , all in the name of a 2 million dollar record contract. changing your image, thought, and sound in the name of money is a true sell out. unless they were in it from the start to make money then hey go do what you want. but if you're sitting in your basement and you write this song saying to yourself " oh wow i love these lyrics i'm so passionate about it " and then the next day the record executive says.. " here's 4 million change this word to this , change the tempo, change the chorus " and you say " sure " .you my friend. are selling out.
i'm getting the impression that you like to argue....alot....tisk tisk....hahahha....anddddddddddddd i'm done! my opinion...always my opinion....never changing that opinion...til i think i should revamp my opinion. how many times do you think i can say opinion in this comment?
i win. thats all i care about.
because i let you.
and you let me... because you had no choice.
jealously rears its ugly head. jealously thy name is Ty.
true. i do want to be like you... for me to poop on.
thai is right
as much as it sickens me, i agree (in principle) with ty. i don't have a problem with a group that tours and plays larger arenas. to get to see all their fans in one year, they have to play one or two days in a larger arena (although i prefer the 15,000-seat arenas). otherwise, you'd have to wait forever while they played two weeks in each city before coming to your area... my2c
whatever, i hate all of you. hahaha
I agree w/ you jahanna. it's like once they get big they don't bother with the smaller fun venues anymore b/c it's less money and exposure. a large arena is impersonal but small places like the saint, they can actually talk to and meet people and stuff. Smaller shows are much more fun.
yea maybe you can spell her name right !
That IS the right way to spell my name!
no it's not, relax.
haha does anyone think that ty is NOT relaxed and therefore has to tell everyone else to relax...kinda like the rafter in your own eye type thing.
whoa there mother of all that is just wrong and incorrect. you relax !
hahaha relax dude... relax ;) im love jokes i got jokes jokes got me
Id have to disagree, thai is a pritty relaxed guy
amen sister. i love you. too relaxed about things maybe is my problem. like if one of my feet were to fall off i'd say " sweeeeeet. i only have to wear one shoe"
thanks, i love you to, I duno about to relaxed, but definatly relaxed enough
yea but think... one shoe.. comes only one sock. man.. i'd love to only wear one sock everyday for the rest of my life. it's like peanut butter
but then think of how much your modeling career would be over, how you could never walk the cat walk youd have to hop the cat walk, how incredibly hard it would be to ride bikes, how you could never wear those red heals and dress again! Youd be the one legged prostitute
you draw a good point. but then i'll be able to do what this world has so much needed since adam and eve sinned......... A ONE FOOT WHEEL CHAIR BOUND MODEL. Why walk the cat walk , when i can roll the cat walk.
i can join special olympics, tell my sad story to companies after i win the gold medal and they'd make special motorcycles for one footed people just like me. and i gave up prostitution. thats so 5 years ago.
ok ok
hahahha, you are so maniacally annoying.
lots of people are....but YOURE NOT! hahahaha :-D
yes, there is only a select few...me and you...we're in that small number...except...really not at all...only to eachother...wahtever, its all the same.
eggsactly thats just b/c you and i are so kool! hahahaha
hahhaa, right on. :-D
sugar ray?
