You know, when I first saw this I thought they were crazy, but it sort of makes sense. Get people to use Mac hardware by allowing them to use Windows on their Macs, and then transition them over to OS X once they see how much better it is.

haha yeah. John C Dvorak was predicting a month back or so that Apple was going to drop OS X for Windows. He was pretty close!

It's an interesting move, because they're now basically in the PC space, and could be competing with the likes of Dell and Gateway. Of course, they're not very competitive when it comes to pricing against those companies.

So you may be right, maybe they'll use this as a sort of "easy switch" sort of thing.

Yeah the price is what has always stopped me from going back to Macs. We had macs growing up, but switched in '94/'95 when my dad bought me a 100 MHz Pentium.

BTW, someone else agrees with me:

"the ability to dual boot Windows (and - likely - use it within OS X in Leopard via virtualization) is probably the trump card Apple was waiting to use. "

oh yeah. I'm buying a dual core mac mini

who's to say MS won't ever allow it? They just said for now

they dont care about the computer segment as much anymore, when their ipods are ruling the world. More money on those little things.

i agree with this. it's such marketing crap! yet, i will never give mine up.

also, i would really like a 30 or 40 gig ipod combined with my Treo - get everything in one device and do it WELL. I mean, I can get a 2 gig SD card for my Treo, where's the other 28 gigs to make this a REALLY sweet tool?

yeah. I was thinking the exact same thing...
