Man, we just had hospitality and now we're scheduld in 2 weeks again. I liked the way my last hall let you sign up for it - I think I'd sign up, but at least I wouldn't feel like I was being force...

I don't mean to be daft, but what is this hospitality that you speak of?

dgiaimo Jul 27, 2006

I assume she means for the incoming public speaker.

monster Jul 27, 2006

Is that common in CA too? And is it because the speakers travel from afar?

socalgal Jul 27, 2006

we dont do it in our hall. our speakers come only like a few miles from the neighboring town. now if its a "special" speaker then we do do it. other than that we do not.

web-toedchloe Jul 27, 2006

Really? I'm sorry, I thought it was a common thing in every hall.

monster Jul 27, 2006

So.. they know this is going to happen? will they be gutted if they are left in the cold? Is it just a meal? Do you have to tour them around?

web-toedchloe Jul 27, 2006

The secretary from the "hosting" hall, where the speaker is giving the talk, calls him during the week and asks if he wants to avail himself of the hospitality arrangement. It most typically, if n...

Sorry, it threw out an application error, so I posted this more than once accidentally.

web-toedchloe Jul 27, 2006

(The same thing happened when I tried to post this, but I just refreshed the page after hitting "post". It might be my browser or connection, Ian.)

monster Jul 27, 2006

Haha 3 times for emphasis. It sounds kinda quaint, but again, if it's falling on you again and again... we're right back to the short notice talks. LOL

web-toedchloe Jul 27, 2006

It seems like the schedule rotates all the elders and MS servants, but our hall only has like 10 altogether, so that's why we do it like every 10 weeks or so. In my last hall, anyone could sign up...

malibu Jul 27, 2006

actually they just changed it. now it's there is just a long list of everyone willing to offer hospatility and it gets posted for the month. you can change around if you know the speaker or whatev ...

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

do your speakers drive far to your halls?

some of our speakers will only stay for their talks and then leave. LOL

malibu malibuOG 2001

some of them. but we do it for the next congregation over. 15min probably or even the congregation that we share the hall with. but then there's speakers from bethel and such which is like 1hr or 1n1/2. i've never heard of halls not having them.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

like i mentioned, unless we have a special speaker do we have that....and i think its because majority of the brothers dont drive too far and or dont stay for the whole meeting.

Quite a few from my hall will come back for the last half of the WT. Most halls are within 15-20 min.
