This is so remarkable! It's very suprising how when one looses an ability another can be used to compensate. Reminds me of this other case.
A young man was involved in a terrible accident... the accident caused trauma to the part of the brain that processes speech. A new therapy was recommended using music/singing. The idea was that because singing is processed in a different area than speaking he woud still be able to speak if he could learn how to properly control the different tones and pitches.
