I have come to the same conclusion that people in PA are from a different mind set. Really though, everyone who lives away from the Tri-State area are like that... If you take a 3 hour radius (3 hours away from NYC) there are probably only a couple of cities in the East Coast that are farther than that radius where you kind find somewhat normal people... Boston and well yeah thats about it... You would think Philly would have a good amount of normal people but the majority of them arent that normal... I only found probably a handful from that area that I can actually hold a conversation with and they keep me amused and interested in what they are saying, but if I meet one more late teen early 20's person talking about just wanting to settle down and have a family or who complains about his/her wife/husband cheating on them, divorcing them (mind you these are all in the truth) I will never get over that stereotype of people in PA are just weird... I know this sounds mean or negative, but Im sure those from around here have observed the same thing...
