brotherman Jul 11, 2007

Good, I know what station to avoid. LOL!

punkprincess Jul 11, 2007

when you put "lol" it doesnt make your comment "ok"

brotherman Jul 12, 2007

I'm sexy, so I can write whatever I want.

flomojopoanode Jul 12, 2007

it's interesting how the question box or other reference material mentioned how being behind a computer emboldens people to say things they wouldn't say in person. That doesn't mean they don't thi...

brotherman Jul 13, 2007

This is a forum. None of us should look at it as REAL socializing anyway. Watch Ezabel end up in an article about websites to avoid. Haha...

punkprincess Jul 13, 2007

are you serious? im sorry but it IS real socializing. what todd said was exactly right. why would it be bad associations for our kids to talk to worldly people but when we talk to people on any for...

brotherman Jul 13, 2007

So I guess no more talk of poop dangling between cheeks. Haha... Real socializing is getting together with people, not typing on a keyboard.

web-toedchloe Jul 13, 2007

Wow, did you listen to the talk about the question box in the KM at all this week?

brotherman Jul 13, 2007

Yes, I listened to it. I don't consider this REAL socializing. Sorry. And I'd say that is what the question box was getting at. I think we'd all get counseled for even being on a site like this...

web-toedchloe web-toedchloeOG 2001

read it again, buddy. you obviously didn't get the point.

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

actually the main points were that parents need to keep their kids in check, even ourselves, into not getting into unfamiliar sites such as porn and chat rooms and chat websites as we dont know who can be on the other side of those chats etc.

so altho the internet IS beneficial it can also be dangerous. as with anything in this world we need to proceed w/the necessary cautions.

This site is not a social network, it's not myspace/facebook/friendster/etc, it's not for finding new friends, it's not a dating site, etc. It's for a small group of friends to communicate and discuss things. I know pretty much everyone here in real life, except for Gina, but I know that a lot of you guys know her personally anyway.

I think the point that really touches on eZabel pretty directly was the one that Todd mentioned yesterday: about people being emboldened to say things they normally wouldn't because of the "virtual" nature of the medium. This has become more and more of a problem over the past six months, and it has bothered me for some time.

I don't know how to solve that problem, and still keep the site alive.

Because, really, I LOVE this website. I've had it going for how long now? Almost 7 years? That's a long time. And, you know, I have made friends from this site. And I've met them in person, and they're cool, and good association. This is most likely due to the fact that eZabel grew organically, from my friends to their friends. We've had our share of unwelcome visitors, of course, but they're easy enough to avoid.

I could do different things. I could make the site private. Make it so you have to be logged in to see things. But, would that really be the right choice? How would that address the "emboldening" aspect of the medium?

I could move this site to a different location, call it something new, open it up to the public completely, and just let it grow on its own. That's no fun though.

I could leave it as is. But I wouldn't want to bother anyone's conscience.

I could just kill it completely. Gone. But, that's a tough decision for me. And I need to think about it, seriously.

I'm going away for a week tomorrow, so I'll have some time to think. The site will remain as is during that time.

no more ezabel!?? how could i go on??

punkprincess punkprincessOG 2001

BACK TO THE EMAIL LISTS! haha

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder

noooo please NOOOO

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

are some complaining and conscience bothering them? or are you being pressured?

iwz iwz

Oh, there's been pressure for some time. But, any decision I make will really be based on my own conscience, and attempting to avoid stumbling others.

I'll be the martyr... Ban me. :o(

socalgal socalgalOG 2003

oh ok. im sorry if i seem ignorant to some things on here....we dont get counseled for everything we do in my area. you know what i mean? thats why i questioned. so something that might be looked down upon there are ok here.

like you wanting to shut down this site because of pressure is WEIRD to me (and i know ultimately its your conscience that makes you do as you see fit) but the brother in his talk mentioned that there are some friends who see ea others blogs, have their own sites etc and can be fun.

iwz iwz

I'm not quite sure where eZabel fits in, yet.

Regardless of pressure or locale, the direction is the same.

superhero superheroOG 2004

my vote (if you're taking anyone else's opinion on board, which, if you're not, is ok - b/c my name is not on this site, yours is) would be to block it so only people who are logged in can see any comments. At that point, it would be more like an intranet site than an internet site, you know?

One of the things mentioned in the question box is that so many things posted on the internet become public. My suggestion avoids that.

FYI - if there's any way I can help for any of this project, let me know.

coreyfeldman coreyfeldmanOG 2003

the two main points I got out of the box, were, 1)people can conceal themselves online and 2)people's conduct can slide online. Making the site private addresses neither of these. imho making the site private could promote these two problems, not fix them.

iwz iwz

I agree.

B
brothermanOG 2004

Solution... Only allow puppy pics. Puppies make everyone happy. Haha...

iwz iwz

Best idea yet! I'll just make ezabel.com redirect to www.cuteoverload.com

Where's my meatloaf? Get to it...

You could get a number of points out of that talk.
