how about we all just like what we like haha who cares about anything else personally Sublime ownz me and so does Tool, Static X, Mastodon.. and Jay-Z and T.I. haha

brotherman Jul 12, 2007

If we all liked the same exact stuff, we'd be boring people.

juicymango Jul 12, 2007

exactly! btw rush is not good hahahah

brotherman Jul 12, 2007

See Rush is a good example. I love them, but I know a lot of people don't. Same difference with Indie. But in Rush's case, they at least play like a normal rock group, except Geddy Lee has an ex...

this comment kind of kills your whole argument. you can't argue both sides! a lot of indie bands have charted. Like that one song by the plain white t's "hey there delilah", I would say they w...

brotherman Jul 13, 2007

Wait...wait....wait... "At one time they were Indie". You just killed your point. Take your ignorant label someplace else.

rocksupastar Jul 13, 2007

how is that ignorant? Take any band... any one... if they have several cd's or records out. Listen to the first one... then listen to the rest, VERY VERY VERY rarely do they ALL sound the same, ban...

Rush has changed their style over the years, so I know what you are saying. I'm not sure what exactly I need to educate myself in. I didn't know there were classes on listening to music. All I'm...

"All I'm saying is that the masses choose what is mainstream and what they want by what they buy." No no no! The man totally decides this! Big music companies decide what the people want and th...

Hahaha... This made me laugh. Basically you are saying the man thinks for us, when we are creatures that possess freewill to choose.

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

You don't think that's how it is? (haha I sound so nutty!) But think about it, advertising and all that, it's basically like brainwashing.

it is true! you make it true dude!

for instance, take dashboard confessional (not my favorite but i'll use it as an example). He put out like 4 or 5 albums before he got his break and released some songs that hit high in the charts, the one was the main song for spiderman 2.

does that mean that his other albums weren't good? NO! it just means that he wasn't discovered. Dude there are thousands of awesome artists out there that just don't get the right breaks and become as you say "mainstream" but they are still great.

and the man does think for some. he thinks for those that will only listen to "safe" music, that gets tons of radio play and that everybody else likes instead of thinking for themselves, and liking something whether it's popular or whether its something that nobody's heard of. and you will never hear of them as long as you buy all of your music at wal-mart

brothermanOG 2004

But I already said I don't like a lot of today's mainstream. The man deflects off me.

I definitely agree some go unnoticed for a time. But if they truly have what it takes, they're going to be discovered eventually.

I like Rush. Does that sound safe to you? When I'm blasting it while sitting in traffic, I'm sure some people are ready to kill me.

thefunkyfresh thefunkyfreshFounder

nah they don't all get discovered. or sometimes a label will offer to sign them as long as they change their music or agree to let them do crazy post production stuff on it. a lot of artists aren't willing to sign their souls over to the devil and sacrifice their creative integrity. others just are content playing the music they love and don't want to get huge

thatdarngirl thatdarngirlOG 2002

Matt, the man's already gotten to him. Just walk away.
