how about we all just like what we like haha who cares about anything else personally Sublime ownz me and so does Tool, Static X, Mastodon.. and Jay-Z and T.I. haha
See Rush is a good example. I love them, but I know a lot of people don't. Same difference with Indie. But in Rush's case, they at least play like a normal rock group, except Geddy Lee has an ex...
this comment kind of kills your whole argument. you can't argue both sides! a lot of indie bands have charted. Like that one song by the plain white t's "hey there delilah", I would say they w...
Wait...wait....wait... "At one time they were Indie". You just killed your point. Take your ignorant label someplace else.
how is that ignorant? Take any band... any one... if they have several cd's or records out. Listen to the first one... then listen to the rest, VERY VERY VERY rarely do they ALL sound the same, ban...
Rush has changed their style over the years, so I know what you are saying. I'm not sure what exactly I need to educate myself in. I didn't know there were classes on listening to music. All I'm...
"I would say it's pretty ignorant to say Spoon for example, is better than U2." WHY IS THAT IGNORANT?!?! just because you don't agree with it doesn't mean it's wrong or right. how could you poss...
Ok, this is not that kind of argument. My argument was that mainstream is more popular and has better bands than Indie. You guys say no. So it's like saying there's a guy in the minor leagues of baseball who is better than A-Rod. Maybe there is someone who ONE DAY will be better, but not now. The bands who make their way out of Indie are like minor leaguers getting the call up to the big show. Sure, the minors are full of talent, but that talent does not always lead to becoming a major leaguer. Does that make sense?
I knew a guy in high school who made it to AA ball. I thought for sure he'd go all the way, he was talented. But he didn't. Can I rightfully say he was as good as any major leaguer? No way! But he was still talented. The bands have some measure of talent in Indie, but most will always fall under the radar, because people just don't want it. It's not the man. It's people who make their say. Ever watch American Idol? It's full of mainstream sounds. I don't watch it very often, but when I have that is what I would hear. That's what people want. If the people on here like Underground music, so be it, but that doesn't make the masses idiots because they like regular stuff. Spoon is just plain horrible. It's like they are just having a jam session and not playing coherently. That's why I don't like a lot of this stuff. If you like it, knock yourself out.
just let it go. you stick with what you love and everyone else will stick with what they love. no one is right NOR wrong. and like, i think it was alex or theremin, stated....beauty is in the eye of the beholder. our tastes vary. we're not all going to like everything everyone does. but thats the beauty....thats what makes us mesh so well as human beings!
so let it go.
I totally agree with that, and have no problem with anyone liking Indie. But the numbers say people like Mainstream better, so there has to be something to that, not that people don't explore other music or that people are brainwashed by ads.
so what? we can all argue too that your brainwashed cause you think rush is the best band EVER! LOL
all in all we're not brainwashed. we all have different tastes and different views. thats what makes this world go round and less boring.
now go eat a cookie. cookies bring peeps together!!!
Hey, I think in my little world they're the best. I know they are not considered that in real life. Where's my burrito? LOL!
the reason i posted this is because of the lyrics:
They play Good Charlotte on the radio
and that's the way I like it
They play Sleepy Jackson on the radio
and that's the way I like it
and that's the way I like it
I hear Beyonce on the radio
and that's the way I like it
cos that's the way I like it
and they don't play me on the radio (whoo!)
and that's the way I like it
Some people (EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE FANTASTIC)don't want to be mainstream.
i for example am upstream.
Hrmmmm. hahaha. This is forum is so addicting by now. You think The Beatles were never asked to be signed, since they would keep putting out stuff on their own label, "Apple?" I mean, I think The Beatles would be considered an Indie band, no? So, I guess they're rubbish. Beethoven has to be a rubbish composer, because classical music doesn't appeal to the masses, he doesn't get airtime on the Top 40 radio stations, and his piano playing is just all over the place with no poppy catchiness.
Would you say William Hung has talent? Curious. Let me refresh memory with this vid --
By no surprise he didn't make it through Idol. But he actually was signed onto a label based on that performance and made an album. "The album has sold approximately 200,000 copies and peaked in the top 50 of the U.S. Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart.
To promote his album, Hung performed before an audience of nearly 20,000 during half-time at a Golden State Warriors game on April 6. Several of his songs reached the top 10 on Apple's iTunes charts, and the album reached #3 on Amazon.com's sales rankings."
This just proves that the music biz is complete fluke sometimes and sometimes more about the biz than about the music, especially when it comes to mainstream.
I think U2 has talent and I like them. I think Rush has talent but I don't them. William Hung's talent was to sing no greater than a cracky voiced drunkard at a kareoke bar, but having an expert marketer, marketing that as his Shtick. And fooling America into making him a rubbish singing Rich man. More comedic than musical really. But, I'd feel like I was scammed if I caught myself in the shoppes buying his album.
